Decent, but R2 LiOn is better

Used this for one wedding so far. Plan on using again. Pros outweigh the cons, but just barely. The last R2 LiOn with the modeling lamp in the front is better. If you're torn between these two flashes, go with the R2 LiOn. Pros: Powerful flash Round head has good coverage Touchscreen is great and easy, but will take more getting used to Subflash is cool - in on-camera flash only mode Plethora of modifiers available, the magnet is pretty strong and reliable Has a modeling light Cons: Every mode by default is TTL. You need to press and hold to change to manual. No way to disable TTL for good The subflash won't fire or isn't adjustable when in master mode The dome modifier isn't as good as Magmod's dome. Had to switch back to Magmod mid-reception The modeling light is pretty weak and won't help with night shot focus Big and heavy

THE speedlight for all things

Pros: 100ws, ProPac port!, strong thermals, solid build, new UI/screen is lovely and 90% perfect. Works great as a trigger for other Flashpoint/Godox lights. Cons: Getting pricey, getting big/bulky, weird "dirty power" sounds in operation, no weather sealing After melting down a V1 doing some outdoor shooting (it worked through the shoot but never again afterward), I was pumped to hear that a Godox V100 was on the way with superior thermals/HSS performance, more power, and Propac compatibility. I had been considering the AD100 strobe, but the Propac compatibility and silent operation in particular sold it for me. I went with Flashpoint this time for the U.S. service and included accessory kit, which added real value since I use my kit all the time with my V1. This thing is basically a baby strobe - a good take anywhere do-anything option. The power gain is modest compared to the V1 - maybe two thirds of a stop, but the big gain is max shots before programmed thermal limits kick in. At full power we're talking 70-100 shots (or 60 in HSS), versus 30 shots (or 15 in HSS) with the V1 (which then wants a 10 minute break). That is a huge gain for more demanding session (like outdoor portrait sessions) which usually need much more power and IMO is the difference between getting through a shoot comfortably or breaking a V1. When you match output levels, the X100 also recycles slightly faster than the V1, of course. The X100 also accepts the ProPac, which significantly cuts recycle time (0.8s recycle at FULL power) and improves burst performance. With a Propac connected, this thing is just a beast and crushes the V1. Light quality is about the same as the V1, TTL may have picked up a little speed/accuracy, but I can't really conclude as I've fought with it as well. Build quality is solid, and although it is not that much heavier than the V1, it feels quite a bit heavier because the lamp has more mass, so it balances in a more top heavy way. Can't have it all, I know, but the weight means I still reach for the V1 when I know I don't need the extra power of the X100. The forward-firing flash is something of a gimmick (it also is always on by default when you turn the light back on, I'd prefer it remembered my last setting). The USB port built-in to the battery is not - it already saved me once in a pinch (the new battery also works in the V1 and vice-versa). Once fully charged the flash feels like it can go forever. The big new thing is the screen and UI. At default or max brightness, the screen is very legible outdoors in bright sun, something I was worried about. Viewing angles are unlimited. The new interface feels good, the touch controls responding like a modern device should, for the most part, but it is not perfect and could be refined. For example, the control wheel is too stiff whereas with the V1 it was too loose - both cause me to make selection errors or bounce me into unintended settings (like zoom, instead of power). The swipe gesture for power works fast, but also can unintentionally pull a menu open. It also took me 30 minutes to figure out how to "turn on" remote flashes when in sender mode (its a press n' hold operation). Another quirk is that, while a home button press brings you to the wifi/menu options, and toggles between it and the home screen, it won't take you back to the home screen IF you then enter the menu. A double press of the home key won't get you home. To exit the menu screen, you have to hit the home button and then pick a WiFi mode ("WiFi off" confusingly is the normal on-camera mode). You also get trapped if you swipe into this same menu screen, and then enter the menu (usually you escape it by swiping the other way bringing you back to the home screen). It just seems like a bug. A double press of the home button should ALWAYS take you back to your last shooting mode, be it WiFi off/Sender/Receiver. Maybe that can be a software update. But other than this quirk I think the new UI makes operation simple. Also, I was PUMPED when I realized I could set manual power adjustments to move in third-stop rather than tenth-stops! A final note is that mine emits noise when on and idling - a weird "dirty USB port" type static/RF noise I can hear in quiet environments (but really only when I put my ear up to the unit). The V1 is dead silent, by comparison. I tried swapping batteries between units and so on, but the noise followed the X100 and the X100 USB battery (hence it is a problem with the X100). Under normal conditions it isn't a problem since I don't usually hear it at all. But in real quiet conditions, it is there. I returned one of these for second one, and the noise was still there. This is likely a "feature" not a flaw, but I'm hoping it isn't forecasting power issues down the road with the unit or the battery. Some of my lenses are a bit noisy as well, so I guess I'll just have to live with it for now.

Fantastic flash that is so easy to use!

I love my X100! For a newbie with zero flash experience, the X100 was extremely easy to learn how to use. It is a powerhouse of a flash and not only has it helped with my indoor photography, it's helped build my confidence as well. I definitely recommend this flash!

RIP Profoto

RIP profoto this is the best Flash unit I've ever touched and it dominates wedding receptions. Honestly I don't even set up off camera light stands anymore with the AD200's because this this is rad enough to carry the whole event and deliver epic ambient lighting shots

Flawless and spectacular

Received this flash with the included AK-R1 kit and I couldn't be happier. This is a strong performing unit and when partnered with the accessories of the AK-R1 and MagMod 2, sphere, bounce and gels, this makes for an awesome shooting session.

Stellar flash

Nice upgrades make what was already a great flash that much better. Touch screen/controls are far more easy to utilize compared to the old analog buttons where at times I would forget which press/button got me to the right mode, choice, etc. Having this being rechargeable also makes it that much better! Keep a small battery bank with you if necessary and you can shoot for longer than necessary.

An outstanding flash unit

The X100 is a joy to use. I just received my copy a few days ago, and wow, did they ever improve the interface. The touch display is so visually sharp, and intuitive to use. What is a real joy is that you can use this flash unit with a Sekonic 858 light meter without any difficulty whatsoever. You can use the flash unit as an on-camera flash, set it to manual mode. Put the X100 in receiver mode, and then use the 858 to remotely fire the flash to obtain a highly accurate incident meter reading, then adjust the power on the flash remotely. The unit is solidly built with great craftsmanship. The flash appears to be very accurate. I am likely to obtain a second unit as well. The X100 has earned a 5 star rating.

Amazing! (but no auto focus light?)

So so good, but for some reason the auto focus light doesn't work even when I turn it on... I'm using an A7iii. The manual says the AF light will only go on when it is dark and AF is stuggling.. I went into a pitch black bathroom, the AF light setting was on, my camera was in AF mode, and still no light came on from the flash... Is this a common issue? Will it be fixed with firmware? I LOVED the red projected grid that the V1 was able to do. This flash was advertised as having this feature but it doesn't come on.

Thoroughly pleased!

Incredible build quality. The new screen is so bright and easy to use. You can adjust the power with a finger tip or using the control dial. More power than the previous version (100 ws vs 76 ws). To top it off, the modes have been simplified. I also discovered a nifty new way of using an on-camera flash. One of the things I wondered about, was being able to check flash settings when I have on camera flash mounted while I use a flash meter for incident lighting. Incident measurements can be more accurate than reflective metering which the camera uses. I put the flash unit in the hot shoe, put the flash in receiver mode, then used my Sekonic 858 to trigger the flash unit. It worked just fine in manual mode. This will not work for HSS this way as it will not trigger the camera. This set up only triggers the flash unit. It is still great. I also received the free magnetic accessory kit. Great deal!
