The black front edge of the frame (the face) that surounds the image is very thin. It is 3/16" of an inch wide as opposed to a more typical 3/8" of an inch. It is very elegant and minimal.
The shadow matte is very interesting, it is a double matte, all edges are beveled but it is different from a normal double matte in that the upper matte is separated from the lower matte by a 1/8" inch space. The upper matte appears to float above the lower matte. The spacer is held back from the edge of the upper matte, you cannot see it. The upper matte creates a small shadow on the lower matte. It gives great visual "depth" to the mounted image.

Very Elegant Frame
In general I like the quality and construction of the Fineline frame. It is very quick and easy to assemble and materials are of very good quality. One caveat - the glass is quite thin and due to the minimal face frame it can be chipped or broken easily. I have had 4 frames arrive with some level of breakage out of about a dozen purchased through Adorama. Framatic uses corner protectors and shrink wraps the frame, but they are still fragile and have to be packed well by Adorama shipping, which has not always been the case especially when more than 2 are shipped together.

The best I've found.
I am using these for show and sales. Matted photos can easily be swapped between mylar sleeves and the frames as needed.
