It's ok

I agree with everything else written here. It's a basic box that works well. I do have a couple issues with it, but I'm comparing it against Chimera boxes and that may not be fair. Should I have just purchased another Chimera? Yeah, probably but I'm cheap and I am constantly assembling and disassembly these boxes and they don't last a long time no matter what. Certainly worth a try and I'm generally very pleased with Flashpoint branded products. First, the fabric is heavy, it's almost like a naugahyde material and that makes it heavier than it needs to be. The facing and the internal diffuser are nice and I do like how it's set up. Second, the corner rods are too long, not by much, but enough that it makes assembly and disassembly overly difficult. The rods do soften up a bit after using it for a while, but still it's too much. Third, the rod support pockets are much too small. The rods fall out of those pockets very easily which makes assembly even more of a pain. To combat that problem I glued (epoxy) a five inch length of 3/8" diameter plastic tubing in to the pockets. The rods go in to the tubing and then stay in place. It's a cheap and easy fix, but nowhere near as good as the Chimera method of sewing rod pockets that are close to full length. Overall, the price is great. It's a more difficult box for location work, but if it's a studio piece where you set it up once and never disassemble it, it's impossible to beat.

Gives a nice soft light

Phurchased this as I wan ted a soft box to learn more about stuido lighting. This one works well and went together easly and the light is even over the whole softbox face within 1/3 of a stop.

Great

Great when paired up with the flash point monolights give you a nice even light. The light output from the center to the edges stay about the same. The only thing I would say is I wish I could attach a grid to it. Other than that it a great practical soft box.

Works as it should

What can I say? It's a softbox. It works. It has an internal baffle to make the light nice and even. I don't get hot spots. The edge is velcro to accept a honeycomb grid. It comes with the flashpoint adapter for the model II monolights but will work with other adapters/speedrings as well. Not much more you can ask for.

Excellent Value

I've used this with a Bowens speedring adapter to fit my Strobies flash bracket. Basically I use my SB-900 in this box to try and simulate studio lighting. It's worked pretty well for me so far; nice soft light and seems pretty even. I did tear one of the panels a bit, but I was being careless with it; I think it's generally sturdy. It was definitely hard to assemble--once you have it put together, you're going to want to leave it that way! I will probably get another smaller box like this--24x36 has turned out to be bigger than I really need.

Great SB for the price

Great softbox for the price..my only nit pick is the setup of the box. It is kind of a pain but once you get the hang of it, you can setup in a few minutes. However practice first BEFORE you are on an actual shoot if possible.

Awesome Softbox!!!

This thing puts out some awesome light. I like that you can remove the double diffuser from inside if you want a little bit stronger light. It does NOT come with assembly instructions, but it is not to hard to figure out. Here are some quick steps to help you: 1. Unpack everything and layout all the parts on the floor. 2. Find the big metal ring and fit it on to your light so that you know which way the softbox will face. 3. Once you have the ring oriented take it off of your light and lay it on the floor. 4. Slide all of the rods into there places on the softbox cover/material section. (The thick side of each rod goes onto the metal ring) 5. Gently and carefully slide each rod into the ring (on each hole to the left of the dotted holes). 6. The last rod in is the rod with the ball in it. It will be a little stiff and it is best if you have two people, but you can get it. Just try not to get frustrated and try to ease it in as smoothly as possible. 7. If you want insert the inner diffuser. 8. Attach the outer diffuser/cover. 9. Screw it onto your light. 10. If the softbox only fits on sideways (rectangular softbox) then you inserted the rods in the wrong holes, they must be inserted in the holes next to the holes with the dots on them. Enjoy nice soft lights and trasitions to shadow that you can barely tell they are there. See the below photograph. The photograph was taken using the softbox, a reflector and a single light in the background to light it white.

Good but shoulda bought a bigger one

Good value and easy to assemble. Just put the 4 rods in the 4 holes, thick rod end on the adapter side. Trick is to place last rod from behind by unwrapping the cover along the adapter. Bought as FashpointII 320 Kit (a great value). It covers a torso pretty good but I wold have preferred an even bigger one (longer). Very nice, even exposure so pretty happy. One of the rods had some sliding washer of sorts which I have no clue what it suppose to do do since there are no instructions. That's why a rating of 4 instead of 5.

Great Softbox--Tough to Assemble

Flashpoint studio lights are a terrific value for the money. I have enjoyed my wedding/portrait kit tremendously and gotten fantastic results. I've bought two softboxes--one for each studio flash (I use FP 620). Both softboxes (one of the older style and one of the new) work great with the flashpoint studio lights. The only drawback is figuring out how to put the softboxes together. They don't come with any instructions. I was so stumped on the second one that I called [...] who then emailed me the instructions. Even with the two-page quick guide, the softbox was still difficult to assemble. Once I finally figured it out, I'm very happy. A good instruction guide shipped with the softbox would have rated this a 5-star product.

Same as my first softbox...not easy

WHile I like the levels of diffusion possible and the fact that it stays on securely, it is very difficult to put together and comes with no instructions. It is however, an excellent value compared to nearly all others in its class. Because of my budget and the results, I can live with it.

Pleasantly surprised with quality

Good price point for entry level photographers who want to take it to the next level with studio lighting. While disassembling it I tore one of the corner tabs that holds a tension pole, but easily fixed it with a needle and thread.

Does Job Good Price

This is my first soft box and it softens the light nicely. Great box for the price. It should come with directions on how to put together but still did not take long to put together once I got over fear of breaking the box.

Good for the price

This is my first soft box and I was able to figure it out and assembly it in about 10 minutes. I am a mechanical engineer so if you're not good at putting things together it could be frustrating. The ring is a little awkward to attach to the front of the mono light. If you were going to use this for location assignments I'm sure there are boxes that assembly more easily. If you're on a budget like me these are a great buy.

Hey guys! Add instructions!

Reading the previous reviews I was preparing for the wosrt when it came to assembling the softbox. I had some difficulty but it was not a hair ripping experience. But I can see how it may be pretty rough for some people. Other than that it seems to be a fine piece of equipment for my purposes.

My first softbox - I am impressed

I was amazed at the size. It is bigger than I expected. No instructions as to how to assemble. Checked the internet and found plenty of advice. Apparently all softboxes required a certain amount of determination to assemble. I finally got it done and love it.

These are very nice.

I purchased two of these with the 620A 2 light wedding kit. It works perfectly. No complaints. If you haven't assembled softboxes before... they can be a handful. With two people it is much easier. That'd be true of any softbox though, so it is not a downfall of these particular softboxes. I am enjoying them thoroughly.

Assembly instructions would be nice.

This information might be useful for anyone who is struggling with assembly:[@]It's not for the same softbox, however there is a trick to assembling this softbox that is similar to the one in the video. Undo the velcro opening in the middle, and attach three rods into the speedring and the corners without foldover velcro pocket. The larger end of the rods go into the speedring, and you should use every other hole so the rods are on all opposite corners. The fourth rod goes through a slot in the foldover velcro pocket, but do not push it all the way through or fold the velcro yet. Put the large end of the rod into the speedring and push the rod the rest of the way through the velcro slot and fold over the velcro pocket to hold it into place. This should push everything into place. Now you can close the middle vecro opening.

Garbage - dont waste your money

I purchased 2 of these softboxes, both broke the first time I used them. No setup instructions. Rods bent, not made of graphite but metal. Rod sewn on holders ripped first time used. Save your money and by from another company.

Good value, but difficult to assemble.

The Flashpoint softboxes are all excellent values and the quality of light that they produce is just as good as any more expensive 'box. However, these boxes are a bear to assemble, and to make matters worse don't come with any instructions. This softbox would be a good choice if you are planning on just assembling it once and leaving it set up in your home/studio.

Great product awesome price

Not too hard to figure out how to assemble but a basic 1 sheet diagram sure would have helped. That's the only had thing to say - it's a good softbox and cheap to boot. Attaches securely to the Flashpoint Monolights.

Once together, they rock!

Putting the first one together was more of an intelligence test than a photo equipment experience. Flashpoint needs to invest a couple bucks into some well thought out, illustrated directions as part of this package. Fortunately a fellow photog has a helpful review/comment posted here on Adorama that helps with finding north from south on putting these things together. Once together, they rock!

Great Value

I am using both the 24x36 and the 24x24 softboxes on mono lights in a small studio in my house. The soft boxes and the flashpoint monolights work great and I would recommend them to any one wanting to set up a studio. I started using umbrellas but the softboxes work much better fo me.

Just what I wanted

As noted by others, if you haven't put one of these together before, get ready for some head scratching! There are no instructions. Hint- use the white diffusion panel to hold the metal rods in place. Construction seems solid and the unit works as advertised. Does a great job of providing a large diffuse light source.

I would recommend it to a friend

I have been using this for more than a year. It is a great softbox of this size, especially at this price. Although a little clumpsy to assemble by yourself alone in the beginning, but once you get the procedures right, it becomes a routine and it's easy to use with great results. Definitely I would buy again.
