Questions & Answers

Martin M : What is the diameter of the head?Charles P : The unit flares from back to front. It's approximately 6" in diameter at the front and 5 1/8" at the back.KEITH F : I can't give you an exact measurement but it is about a 7 inch diameter
Monty S : Is there a silver reflector for this light head?MARCOS C : there is no reflector for it but you can add the umbrella holderWAYNE C : No, it does not come with a silver reflector. I use it with a plastic diffuser made out of a clear defused plastic container. Have also made a diffuser out of a 20 lb cat litter container that was milky clear plastic. With some duct tape and heavy aluminum foil a " silver reflector " could be fashioned.KENDALL T : None that I am aware of. This light is okay for still-life or video, but I would not recommend it for portraits. When I purchased this light, Adorama did not stock any modifiers for it. To control the light you many have to DIY a modifier. :(DILIP B : No. You have to buy a reflector separately. ThanksCharles P : I'm sorry I can't answer this question. I purchased the head for a do-it-yourself project where I made my own light box. As the image shows, the light head is designed to clamp on to the riser of a light stand. I assume (but don't know) that there are enclosures that can be purchased to also attach to a light stand to provide reflector/ diffusion qualities.MICHAEL P : I could not find one so i just made my own from a piece of sheet metal and used a hose clamp to attach it to the light. The diameter is six inches but be aware that the bulbs are angled out so you need a rather large reflector.OSVALDO C : No the picture is all that you get. There are some lights on Amazon that are very close to this model that actually come with soft boxes. They come in a kit so it is more expensive that just buying one but I think they would be more useful overall as the light spills everywhere. I had a friend take a large stainless steel bowl purchased from a restaurant supply store painted it white on the inside, black on the outside. He then carefully drilled through the plastic to attach the bowl.
Shopper : What bulbs are recommended for this?CATHY S : I use Daylight Compact Fluorescent bulbs. I bought mine at Menards.KEESHI I : Thee take any standard screw-in lamp. I am using it with CFLs. Alzo brand CFLs are fine and less expensive than some of the others. I recently noticed a color shift in the video while using them, but it was subtle and I hadn't seen that before. Because these sockets are angled, you can fit some of the larger CFLs. I use 3 105Watt with two smaller ones. If you haven't used CFLs, just know that the larger the "wattage" (which is incandescent watt equivalence, not actual wattage), the larger the bulb. The 105s are huge. Hope that helps.WAYNE C : Depending on their size ( diameter) I use 45 watt or 55 watt daylight FL buibs Worst case ( if they are too big around ) one could leave out a bulb in the center socket and just use 4 instead of 5MICHAEL P : I don't know about recommended but I use CFLs. I use four 60w around a 100w center which gives me about 340w of effective lighting. Great for video or constant lighting applications. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I fashioned my own reflector out of sheet metal and am quite pleased with the results. It's an excellent value.ALEXANDER T : any fluorescent bulbs that fit your reflector.DAVID S : I would use 60 or 75 watt daylight led bulbs or a mixture of these wattages depending on what total you want. Check out this video I recentlt shot showing how I added flags to thisblight! DIY Edison LED Light: http://youtu.be/27Z6KwPLY6gt.JEFFREY S : I am using 5 65 watt bulbs. The only problem is that there is no way to attach an umbrella.MARCOS C : Try daylight balanced bulbs, you can find these at Home Depot or Lowes. I am using ecosmart daylight balanced 14W , 5000K light bulbs that I purchased at Home Depot and I get great results

Affordable lighting solution

Perfect for lighting my short films--I love the fact that there's a switch for every light in the set and the fact that it has a fuse--a big plus for me since I use this in our apartment. Great buy!

Use these with LED Bulbs

I got the version with Softbox, lightstand, and CFL bulbs, but LED bulbs (100 watt equivalent) are far better because they use less power, produce less heat, and are not fragile and do not contain mercury.

Works Well

You can save some money if you buy more than one unit of this. I ordered two of these and mod'ed my light stand to make a 10-light bulb unit. Worked out great!

This light fixture exceeded my expectations

This light fixture exceeded my expectations. I ordered it based on other positive reviews and I can now confirm that these fixtures are well worth the cost and of great quality. Each Socket is individually switched and the electric cord is heavy duty and about 12 ft. Long! Nice product.

Super value

I picked up 3 of these units. They work great. I use them for lighting products that I sell on eBay. 4 LED lights bring the cost to around ($) per unit. I mounted these on some old music stand. One big plus is that each socket has it's own on-off switch.

better quality than expected

I ordered multiple light heads to be used behind large white screens. The quality is better than I figured they would be. Well worth the price!

Really great coninuous light setup and price point.

Really great coninuous light setup and price point. My only concern is the plastic mounts.

Finally a head only offering

I'm glad as I didn't need a second kit just the head but these are never sold Thanks I got exactly what I need without paying for extra stands or bulbs of boxes
