Questions & Answers

Shopper : Do they become hot while operating?JOSE A : NoRichard J. C : They do not heat up the room but they're warm to touch.PETER M : Yes they do!
John M : What is the CRI rating of the Flashpoint 125W CFL 5500K Fluorescent bulb?ROBERT B : I do not know, it's not listed.John M : If you go to Lowel lights web site. On upper right side, click on the Lowel EDU tab. Then go to 4th tab on left of that page. Color temperature and Color Rending Index DeMystified. Click on that section. Scroll down to CRI section, read explanation of CRI. Then scroll down to bottom of the page. To view photos taken with fluorescent lights rated at CRI 80, and CRI 90DAVE B : I am not familiar with CRI. If you can tell me what CRI stands for I might be able to give an answer. In the mean time I will Google CRI to see if I can determine what it means.MICHAEL D : John, Flashpoint doesn't seem to publish a CRI for this bulb. But all of their spiral bulbs are 5500K and have a CRI of 80. I can only guess that this bulb is the same or similar to their other flourescents. My experience with this lamp is that its color is pretty accurate for the stated Kelvin rating.ANGIE C : I'd guess it to be around 80, with a slight green cast. I had pretty good luck with those bulbs when I used them. I've since gone away from CFL because of their instability and they're so easy to break. I now use LED exclusively and I'm now interested in a few new brands that offer a higher CRI like WardBright.THOMAS R : Hi John, It seems CRI ratings are on the better LED lights but not on a lot of CFL's or other fluorescent bulbs. I can say this bulb and the higher wattage Flashpoint CFL's I use work fine for my college class and I seem to get nice skin color overall. Advantages are that they stay cool are give a soft light quality right from the bulb. The prices are good for these at Adorama.

Good light but questionable QA

When it works, its a good light, but I have received 2 faulty lightbulbs from this brand out of 4 (not all from Adorama), so I’m hesitant to purchase this specific brand again because of their lack of quality control.

cheap and soft vright daylight balanced light source

get your own light mount these are the best and cheap a bit larger but i find the tubes easier to bounce from silver reflectors to even out the directional and still almost multiply the brightness . the smaller bulbs i have just work in a small space but if you have the space use these example i used downtown la at night hooked up to a simple ac/dc adaptor plug from my vehivle acting as a generator. with long extention cable 100ft i was able to set up in the background of a shot the side of a old building that just had no light whatsoever. i turned a black area in the frame into a fully softlit area with just one bulb and a reflector clamped to the light stand just out of frame. the light was pointing up and well a work light would have been hot and probably sucked my battery dry in this case we had it up for a five camera shoot for about 30 minutes of shooting different takes it was perfect for that angle and now i wish i had had the bigger light head that handles more this size? it would have quadrupled the fill light in the night scene soft light looking like regular street lights at much less watts than the other lights offer ...besides using a full fresnel but that needs a generator indie micro budget filmmakers listen up this works as i said and will also act as a great cool daylight balanced greensceen fill light as its soft not hard light like work lights and your black or white foamcore reflectors block the light from the camera or actors on the set.... i bought eight over two years ago. and they are still working today. led may be catching up with flat panels but this solution is still by far the cheapest most reliable Daylight balanced light source without using filters its not green like flourescent bulbs and tungsten bulbs like a fresnel 1000watt 1K ARRI i use in certain situations and have noticed it works togethet as a fill light in the shadows ......and doesnt have to look tungsten balanced

Great range for a fluorescent soft light

Great soft fluorescent bulb. Can be used with most soft boxes. Can be a handy tool for photographers ranging from beginners to professionals. This bulb has a lot of range. Fantastic for indoor scenes, and simulating window light for interior scenes. Diffusing the light from this bulb is a simple task. This is great for photographers and filmmakers alike.

LARGE BULB - HIGH LIGHT OUTPUT

BULB IS LINEAR AND LONG (ONE FOOT APPROX) IT IS NOT SPIRAL - IT WOULD BE NICE IF IT WERE A SPIRAL (MORE COMPACT) - IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT COULD BE DAMAGED EASILY. LIGHT OUTPUT IS GOOD.

Spiral Design Would Be Better

The bulbs are much larger (longer) than I thought they would be. A spiral design would be better. It is great to have the light output of these bulbs without the heat. The colors were right on for daylight white balance. I have seen other commercial bulbs at 85 and 100 watts that are spiral design which makes them a more compact bulb. However they are more expensive and not sure what the color temp is. GOOD OVERALL PRODUCT.
