Affordable replacement

Drop my bulb, looked to replace it locally but the camera store here wanted 3x what Adorama charges (including shipping) received it in a week with two days to spare for my next shoot.

Good light

Works good for digital cameras but not strong enough for film cameras.

Works as expected

This light works just as described. It's fine for dark locations and if you have the light close to your subject. But if its a fairly well lit space, or you need your light farther away from your subject, you may need something brighter than this. Be aware that it does dim or start to flicker over time. This was a replacement lamp to one that came with a kit that is starting to flicker and is fairly dim.

Good bulb a little pricey

It sure beats normal room lights. Even though I've replaced all my house bulbs with 14W 5500K flourescent bulbs there is still not enough light for good indoor photography. I use this bulb in two white reflecting umbrellas for fill in light plus two shop lights each with two 14w 5500K flourescent bulbs.

Spiral Flurescent Bulb: a problem

I got to use the bulb twice. It lost power after two hours, the second time, and when I unscrewed it, the bulb shattered. I need the powerful light to illuminate jewelry for sale. The flashpoint kit with the bulb came recommended to me by a professional photographer, so I had high expectations that weren't met.

Reasonably priced

Very useful for newborn photography lighting when natural light is too dim. Pro: does not flash bright light into newborns eyes.

Good light - not durable

Great light, but bulbs started to fail quickly. First came the smoke, then the buzz, then complete failure... upon inspection, the interior wiring is poor - and the end of one light stuck in the light box, leaving me holding just the glass.

Does the Job

A high intensity compact fluorescent bulb. Runs cool and the daylight color temperature is very useful for supplementing daylight for indoor portraits. The bulb is large. In fact, this is the second one of these I've purchased from Adorama, and this new one is at least an inch longer and is larger in diameter than the first one I got. (I checked with a good light meter -- output from the two bulbs is within 1/10th of an f-stop.) The bulb extends beyond the front of a standard floodlight reflector. And you will probably need an inexpensive socket extender from an electrical supply house to get the bulb to screw into your floodlight reflector. The price is right, they last a long time, and you won't burn your hands with these bulbs -- if only they were smaller!

Cool running light for still life

Use the cool running lights for heat sensitive still life products and "no sweat" portraits. I use several at a time with a diffuser for soft lighting. I don't know about lifetime yet, but I wish they were slightly smaller. A plus is amount of light without blowing fuses, but I am not sure the output is quite as high as advertised.
