Bad iOS experience and didn?t work as intended

Really bad product, do not buy! The Flashpoint app doesn?t exist anymore, so the instructions say the Godox app will also work. That app does exist but hasn?t been updated in two years on the iOS app store. Not to mention that when you open it, it?s all in Chinese (a language I don?t speak), and doesn?t sync with the flash at all. The flash fires when you take a photo, but it?s behind the shutter so it?s useless.

Does not such with IPhone 12 Pro Max

This does not work with the iPhone 12 pro max. It will fire but does not sync and the pictures are completely black. At least with the iPhone flash by itself the pictures come out good

Saves a lot of running around!

This little device was just what I needed. I can’t recommend it for using as an iPhone flash alone (but with speed lights you can do a lot), but in conjunction with an R2 unit, I am able to control the flash settings on my Flashpoint lights without touching my camera or my lights. Using it in conjunctions with the CamRanger, I can set up and make changes without running from light to light or touching the camera during bracketing or popping flashes for compositing. Great for the price!

Will not work properly with iphone 11

I gave only two stars because the app for setting the flash works in latest apple 11, but unfortunately the camera of iphone will not sync with this flash or the other flashes like the AD200 or AD600....flash is trigger but images are dark meaning that the sync do not work......a little expensive device just to control power of other flashes from the phone

R2 remote works, but the camera function crashes the app

Installed Flashpoint R2 app on iPhone X (12.1.4) and iPad Pro(12.2 Beta). On both devices, the remote power setting functionality works great (tested on AD200). However, the camera functionality crashes the app as soon as one tries to take a picture. The test flash button works on both devices. With a Pixel 3 running the GodoxPhoto app; again, the remote works but the camera functionality is "temporarily" not supported according to the app message. This device has a lot of potential but the apps needs further refinement. I've owned 5 flash R2 devices of previous generation and have been very happy with them over the years. Unfortunately, at this time I can not recommend this device until the apps are sorted.

Flashtastic!

Perfect wireless flash, syncs with transmitter and can dial it up or down in power from camera. Even has a magnet to stick it too things. Perfect, and you can't beat the price.

Got the Mini! Most reviews here are for the M! Pro, not the Mini

Just got the Godox Ami/Flashpoint M1 Mini from Adorama. It's just what I was hoping for- small enough to be pocketable with my phone, easy Bluetooth syncing. EXCEPT- the app is several steps backwards from the latest version for the A1 phone flash. It has no control over shutter speed (to blend ambient and flash light) and no option to use the 2X lens on the newer iPhones. Why didn't Godox just port over the most refined version of the Godox Photo app for the A1, that incorporates these features? (That app is still missing the aspect ratio option to select 1:1 for Instagram and other use.

Great little device

The M1 Pro works great! I downloaded the app to control multiple Godox lights and it worked right of way. Plug-n-play. Nice little ocf for the iPhone as well.

Great unit hampered by usage issues; probably not for most shooters.

The M1 can actually be used four different ways: 1) as an OCF slave to a phone, 2) as an X1T-iPhone :), 3) as an in-hand remote for the R2/X system, and 4) as a relay device to control an X1T/XPro in APP mode from the iPhone app. There are limitations in nearly all these use cases that could render an M1 a no-starter for most shooters. 1). As an on OCF slave for the iPhone, the unit works great. But it only has a guide number of 8. And (worse) the iPhone has a very VERY slow sync speed due to the electronic shutter. My 5S can only sync up to 1/25s (facepalm). 7 and 8 models can sync up to 1/45s. So, you're not using this for HSS daytime fill any time soon. 2). That same sync speed issue holds if you're using it as an X1T-iphone. But in addition, since the M1 has limited communication with the X1T, and no communication with your camera, it cannot do TTL or HSS. You can only set groups on/off, and a manual power level. A firmware upgrade might change this, but at the moment, of limited use. 3). No limitation as an in-hand remote, and quite a bit less clunky than a X1T/XPro to magnet-sticker/velcro to the back of a light meter. The unit does have a 2.5mm sync input connector for that purpose. 4). The app can save off groups on/off and the manual power setting, and associate it with an image, so it does have preset ability. But again, no ability to individually set HSS or TTL per group, no zoom settings, etc. So, again of limited use with the APP mode of the X/R2 transmitters. It's a great proof of concept, but until the app can do what the transmitters do, you're likely to be disappointed. The unit itself has good solid build quality, the controls are straightforward and intuitive, and seeing/changing all the settings or checking the Bluetooth connection status is very easy. There is no carrying case in the box. The charging port door is a little loose. The main weakness is in the iOS app (and the continued absence of the Android version). In-app help consists mainly of screenshots (facepalm) with minimal text. BT connection is done from the app (not the iOS preferences). And nothing that is inapplicable (such as Auto mode for a group; which is NOT TTL, but only applies to the Auto mode on the M1) is grayed out. So you can waste time messing with settings that don't do anything. The slider on the camera tab for adjusting FEC is only for Auto mode on the M1 and is not a universal adjustment (which does work and does exist in the APP on the flash tab). I purchased the unit because I tend to do food photography with my phone more than my cameras (I'm in a hurry to eat before it goes cold :). And I just wanted to add a little bounce flash from a TT600. For that, it's terrific. Studio, macro and product-type shooting is probably the wheelhouse for this little unit. But the sync speed issue mostly cripples it for phone photography otherwise. And as an alternate remote interface for setting power vs. the transmitters, the inability to set TTL or HSS from the app is going to make it of less interest. It's a great proof of concept, and if the M1-app/transmitter communication becomes fuller, or our phone cameras get universal sensor readout, then the whole story changes. But for now, this is more for gadget freaks than photographers.

Easy of use

The idea is good, I wish that it has more power. Also, given its size, the entire dark face area can be made like a light diffuser so that when the flash is used at close distances, it does not create harsh shadows.

Must-have for studio shooters with R2 flashes

The M1 is only slightly useful by itself, but in combination with its companion iPhone app it's amazing. People who create complex lighting setups will love the ability to control power of all units from the phone app, then SAVE those setups for later re-use. Under-appreciated feature: The M1 has a sync jack that's perfect for firing a flash meter and can even be used as a trigger with older cameras that don't have a hot shoe. As a flash, it's powerful enough to be used as a hair light, and small enough to stick inside a light fixture, Halloween pumpkin, etc. for "practical" lighting effects.
