This little guy packs a lot of punch. But honestly, I got it because of how it reminds me of the flashes I used back in the day. Works exactly as expected and at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend if you want that bit of nostalgia.

It's a great little flash that i can attach to my Leica m2 or onto my DSLR. Honestly i prefer this one over the lux senior since it feels much stronger. Though it only takes 3A Batteries and it kinda burns through them fast if you use flash alot.

Flash spread is pretty narrow, anything wider than 35mm you can definitely see pretty significant falloff. Wish I could go to 1/128 power, but other than that I love it for my film and digital cameras. Something fun to supplement/play with if you already have the v860iii,

Just couldn't resist the chance to have a flash which took me back to my childhood. Very straightforward to use. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I am using this on a Leica camera, Since on camera flashes on a Leica are either very expensive, or do not work well this is an excellent compromise. Since it doesn?t talk to the camera it is necessary to adjust camera settings whenever there is a change in the location or if you zoom in or out by a large amount. I have not yet used the flash for as a fill flash in sunlight but I am hopeful of good results. However I expect that this would not be a good choice for wedding photo work since it is necessary to adjust camera settings too often. I do love the ?retro? look, it goes great with the Leica!

This innovative flash is really useful, not just for those interested in the look of it. It?s really well engineered, the folding mechanism is quite clever. The reflector pedals seem a bit delicate, not sure how well it will hold up under heavy use. I was afraid it would be underpowered, but I found that at ISO 400 it can light up good sized room, and will even work bounced (not on auto) it the ceilings are not too high. The auto exposure function seems accurate. I tested it at f/5.6 at ISO 400. The foldout reflector is still relatively small and thus gives a fairly harsh light on portraits. It?s a little better as far as softness at very close range, such as I use for wide angle environmental portraits. It works well to blend with ambient light at lower shutter speeds. I?m using it mostly off-camera with the compact LightPix T2 radio sync. I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars because I wish they had included TTL and radio sync to make it more useful for serious photographers.

Great retro flash

Just couldn't resist the chance to have a flash which took me back to my childhood. Very straightforward to use. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
Explore the charm of vintage photography with the Flashpoint FlashBack Junior Speedflash, a compact and robust flash unit that harkens back to the classic on-camera Automatic Speedlights of the 1970s. This retro-inspired flash is designed to deliver a reliable and consistent light source for photographers who appreciate the art of manual settings and the satisfaction of controlling their lighting environment.
The FlashBack Junior Speedflash does not feature modern wireless radio R2 technology. Instead, it requires a photographer's understanding of Guide Numbers and distance to effectively manage light output. This flash offers both Manual and Automatic Modes, with the latter reminiscent of pre-TTL era photography, where thyristor sensors on the flash unit gauged the light output.
In Manual Mode, users can select from 7 output levels to fine-tune their lighting, ensuring precise and repeatable results. When using the Automatic Mode, the flash takes over exposure control, but it's up to the photographer to set the correct f-stop on the camera or lens. Understanding the flash's range, based on ISO, distance, and subject matter tonal value, is essential for optimal results.
The FlashBack Junior Speedflash is universally compatible thanks to its single-pin hot shoe trigger, ensuring it works with any camera equipped with a hot shoe or a Sync post. This includes a wide array of camera brands and models, from modern Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Olympus, and Pentax cameras to vintage Exacta, Contax, Leica, Konica, and Linhof models.
The flash's automation is based on the f-stop, with a sensor on the flash body rather than TTL camera linkage. Once the lens is set to the displayed f-stop, the exposure is accurate and rich, providing a straightforward and effective lighting solution.
The FlashBack Junior Speedflash boasts a Guide Number of 46ft / 14m @ ISO 100, offering even coverage at a fixed 28mm focal length. Its advanced integrated optical receiver is compatible with S1 and S2 pre-flash TTL systems, making it ideal for event photography and situations where on-camera flash illumination is beneficial.
This Speedlight is perfect for freezing action, delivering natural daylight color, and filling in shadows without overwhelming the exposure. Its fixed focal length and absence of a zoom head function emphasize simplicity and ease of use.
The Flashpoint FlashBack Junior Speedflash is an excellent choice for photographers of all levels, from beginners to professionals seeking a reliable backup strobe. Its nostalgic design is sure to spark conversations and admiration, reminiscent of iconic retro items like a '57 Chevy or a classic Betty Boop cartoon.
Embrace the past and enjoy the journey with an old friend in the Flashpoint FlashBack Junior Speedflash. It's a testament to the days when photographers relied on their skill and intuition to achieve the perfect exposure. While this flash does offer automatic exposure, users must still manually adjust shutter speed and f-stop on their cameras to capture the desired image.
Please note: Sony camera users will require the Shoe adapter WE4711 to ensure compatibility with the FlashBack Junior Speedflash.
