Portable Power

This is an excellent strobe. It gives me plenty of power on location, allowing me to leave my AD600 in the studio. It has become my go to flash for headshots outside of the studio.

Good, when it works

This light was powerful and worked well for what I needed, but only when it was working properly. My first battery died after a few months and wouldn't charge again no matter what I did after following support's direction. Got a replacement under warranty, but that one did the same thing in less time leaving me with no confidence in my light to work when I need it.

Dead Battery

Great light, I use it mainly in the studio and it doesn't get much use. However, I just went to charge the battery and it won't take a charge, it's dead. Sad it didn't last more than a year with light use, and now I'm forced to purchase an expensive replacement.

Excellent Bundle, Great Price

This is a fantastic bundle to have! The quality of every piece in the bundle is exactly what I needed for my first strobe. The AD400 does great in direct sunlight. It gives just the right amount you need to have crisp and clean photographs.

Go with Westcott. Battery issues with this unit are real.

Purchased on 5/24/24 and used once on 6/1/24. Stored batteries fully charged (not attached to strobe unit) and set timer on my phone to ensure I recharged battery packs every 2.5 months due to numerous complaints about the Godox/XPLOR 400 Pro battery issues. It's now 8/11/24 (less than 2.5 months since last full charge) and all four of my batteries are dead and won't recharge. Manual says to ensure batteries are recharged at least once every 3 months, which I am just over 2 months at this point. Very disappointing. I read all the concerns about the batteries and just figured people weren't following the recommendation regarding charging every 3 months. I can now confidently say, I'd 100% go with Westcott if I could do it all over.

Great light. Battery bit of issue

Great light. Just be sure to charge the battery once every 3 months if not in use. Battery will go dormant and will need to be opened to jump start. Basically voltage get so low when stored for a significant time, that the battery stops taking charge.

Great Light but faulty batteries

Godox and Flashpoint know there's a problem with these batteries, they die if you keep charging them after they are fully charged. I have 3 of these lights, 2 of them arrived with dead batteries. I have to send the batteries somewhere else to be jump started and it's not free. new lights should come with batteries that work, but that's not the case with The XPLOR 400.

Good when they work.

I've purchased the ad600 and the ad400, both are amazing lights when they work. Biggest issue is the batteries randomly just going brick. Seems like a common problem with all flashpoint products.

3.5 Overall - Great Pros, Bad Cons

I loved these and would have given them a 5 star review, BUT recently I had the dreaded battery failure, on both of mine, which renders the light useless. That's a HORRIBLE design that you can't use them plugged in if the batteries fail. It turns out after hours of watching YouTube videos that this is common and they use archaic battery technology. Disassembling the battery and doing some little short circuit thing worked...for now. Next issue is that after a short while it starts to take a significant amount of time to recharge. I don't know if this is heat or not (I don't shoot fast). It's been very frustrating and caused issues with client shoots (as bad as missing 3 of 4 shots to a misfire. Still, for the $$, they are not bad. My ancient Alien Bees are ridiculous but have never, ever failed and it takes a significant amount of shots to overheat. I'd give them a 3.5 if I could. I don't know if I would buy them again after the battery issue. That almost made them useless and I've only used them a total of a few months over the past 2 years.

Great power output, features, weight, and light output for in-studio or remote work!

I love the consistency and refresh rate, output level, and flash duration of this strobe. Couldn't ask for anything more from a light at this price-point. Feels well built and well thought out and covers all the shooting modes that I use for in studio and outdoor, remote shoots.

Not a Pro solution.

Ever since I purchased these lights they have have been nothing but a complete headache. Some might call a disaster. I've used them on 100+ shoots and when working are great, but that is the issue. On almost every shoot I've used them on, one or more of them will not make it through more than a few dozen shots due a power glitch that kills the battery instantly and seemingly randomly. For this reason I always carry at least one backup unit and extra battery. Once dead, the battery must be disassembled and reset with a solution that can be found in internet chatrooms and youtube vids about the problem. (It's a well documented issue.) I have two of these and both may suddenly lose power during a normal shoot in normal conditions. Once swapped out with a new battery, the issue may reappear immediately or allow the shoot to finish. I have never been able to figure out when or where it will happen. After much stress I finally moved on to a more reliable solution as these lights have delayed or ruined more shoots than I can count. For a while I kept buying new ones to see if it was just a defective lemon, but the issue has been consistent. Hope this as least a warning to anyone considering the purchase. Aside from this issue, the lights can produce great images with good consistent color temp when they deliver power, but I cannot risk it any longer.

Reliable Studio Lighting with Consistent Light Output and Color Accuracy

FlashPoint Lights have truly become indispensable in my studio. The AD400's, in particular, have emerged as my go-to choice for studio portraits. Their optimal weight and power make them ideal for my needs. What truly sets them apart is their unwavering consistency in both light output and color accuracy. I've come to rely on them for their reliability and stability. Without hesitation, I highly endorse these lights to fellow photographers.

Need one?! No reason not to purchase!

There's not much to say about this line of strobes that hasn't been said already, but they're built well, they're inexpensive, and they continuously work! Need more power than the 200/200 Pro? Here it is, and it's only 1/2 stop less than the 600! It is also lighter and recycles just as fast, so it's much safer to have this atop your light stand than the 600. Let's not forget about the smaller Godox mount, which allows you to have the choice of a few smaller softboxes in your case than the Bowens mount softboxes. Already have Bowens mount modifiers? Great, because it comes with an adapter to use them also! Tried and true, Flashpoint strobes always deliver! I'm not paid or sponsored by Adorama, and this is a completely honest review!

Great, but a little clunky

It's a great flash, has been working really well. Just a couple things were disappointing/frustrating. The flash comes with a completely dead battery, so I had to wait longer than expected to actually do anything with it. Also, the Bowens mount required a screwdriver to put on and take off, which is inconvenient. And you can't pack the flash back up into the case without taking the Bowens mount back off, otherwise everything doesn't fit. Otherwise, it's been great!

if you want bang for the buck, you can't go wrong here!

I have 2 of them alongside a pair of the godox AD300/Flashpoint Xplor 300 units, and have a very difficult time deciding which I like more - each model has it's own special niche, and when they are teamed up... outstanding. the 400's are the clear winner in terms of cycle time, and the 300's have the edge in absolute portability. the 400s in particular can be effectively color matched to profoto D2 lights with just 2 points of magenta @ 5800K when using the WB adjustment capabilities of Canon cameras.

Light seems okay, but the quality and condition of it is bad.

I bought this Xplor 400 Pro in used condition that was marked as "E", and expected a monolight in great condition. What I got instead, however, was a light that was scratched, dinged and dirty all over, a flash tube that looked like it was thrown from a car, and a case with literal garbage and dead plant materials inside of it. This is my first purchase from Adorama, and if this is the condition of used gear that they sell as "high quality" I think I'll stick to buying pre-owned gear from B&H, MPB, KEH or wherever else that sells clean products AND offers free shipping. Not super impressed with Adorama after this one. At least the light seems to work with test firing it, but I'll have to see when I actually hook it up and use it.

Big improvement

By JEFF M.

Downsized to this unit from the original Flashpoint 600. Improvements are smaller size and weight, good for location work, much better stand mount, faster recycling, color stability, better designed flash tube and reflector for accessories, better modeling light and hand grip for carrying and adjusting.

Incredible for the package and price

By John M.

Great strobe. I am a architectural photographer and this is a great location strobe. I also use the eVolv 200's and they make a great set of flashes for location work. Price is great and quality is top notch. I have been using flashpoint (Godox) equipment for the last 3 years on over 600 shoots and they have been bulletproof.

A Crescendo of Light Package Kit with Unheard of Ease
For you photographers on the move, who want freedom from the restrictions of AC power... YES! For you with studio level wireless lighting R2 on the mind and in your vision... Flashpoint presents the XPLOR 400 Pro Kit.

Three absolutely smashing elements to go forward in a flash and be ready for some real imaging action. The generous collection includes our Flashpoint XPLOR400 Pro R2 TTL Monolight with all the positive power of wireless freedom; a formidable SterlingFibre lined ParaSnap Octa 36 Softbox for exquisite portraiture and subject flattery; and the Glow Low Profile Speedring that slips toolessly in the ingenious ring chamber.

- XPLOR 400 Pro Compact TTL R2 Monolight -
More powerful and versatile than the eVOLV200 morphing pocket flash and smaller and sleeker the excellent XPLOR600 Pro cordless monolight - The state-of-the-art lithium powered monolight weighs in at just over 4 pounds 8 ounces. Serious output at 400-watt seconds, plus TTL, High Speed Sync, IGBT technology, with incredible 1 second recycle time that can keep pace when it needs. The 400Pro boasts complete camera system real-time autosensing for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Pentax, and M4/3 Panasonic/Olympus, with the infallible R2 compatible 2.4GHz radio receiver modes built inside, fully compatible with the entire Flashpoint R2 Family system of wireless radio enabled strobes.

And, it can deliver to 390 full power shots from the compact new 21.6V, 2600mAh lithium-ion battery and not skip a beat. The battery recharge is a snap, too, using the external power charger to reach full capacity while you keep the action going without tying up the flash to re-energize. Exchange a depleted bat-pack in a matter of seconds for keeping pace with whatever you're tracking. The output of the pro 30w LED modeling light, with proportional, variable or recycle responsive settings produces 4800 Degree K with a TLIC of 93, brightness equivalent of 350w, and practicing a stable color temperature mode, completes the sweet picture.

The unmatched R2 Radio System links Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and Olympus/Panasonic DSLR's seamlessly and simultaneously for the ultimate to remote solutions. The sun is no match to this exceptional performer with superior HSS up to 1/8000s. The newly integrated reflector makes the flash ready to serve up some dazzling imagery without add-ons, speeding the way to the finish line.

Take the plunge. Your vision is now beyond your imagination.

R2. Worldclass Lighting to Everywhere.

- Glow ParaSnap Octa 36 NewGen Softbox with SterlingFibre -
The Glow ParaSnap Octa 36 NewGen Softbox with SterlingFibre is the brilliantly designed solution for instant setup and breakdown in a fraction of the time it takes to set up a standard Softbox.

With a single swing and snap motion, the ParaSnap NewGen opens and locks into the classic octagonal shape favored by fashion and portrait photographers.

Introducing the Glow SterlingFibre silver lining, a revolutionary quilted fabric interior that optimizes and maximizes your light output; no hot spots, no light loss, and wonderful for all skintones. Removable inner and outer diffusers create an even more luxurious beam and solves most contrast issues when capturing a variety of skintones and values. The ParaSnap is perfect size for accomplishing portraits on the dime, with terrific portability, and adaptable to serve on all sorts of monolights - with a snap!

Exclusivity is a rarity, but Glow has done it again! We call our exciting new advanced interior design, SterlingFibre. The heart of any Softbox is the space that reflects the flash within the 'box.' The silvered surfaces 'sees' the light that faces it. The superior quilted interior means ultimate output. Typically, the parabolic nature of an umbrella or rectangular bank light cannot capture all of the strobe burst without including dark spots in the reflective surface. With SterlingFibre, little light is lost as the wafered surface picks up all of the monolight's flash burst and brings it to focus outward to the front diffusers. The ParaSnap Octa 36 NewGen Softbox with SterlingFibre, with output as no other.

- Glow Low Profile Speedring -
The Glow Low Profile Speedring for the Flashpoint XPLOR400 Pro and Flashpoint XPLOR300 Pro 144mm Direct Mount helps the flashtube reach maximum output efficiency and extends the service life of the tube. The 144mm Speedring is used by modifiers with interchangeable rear mount disks.

Direct Mount designed flash heads are an orchestrated balance between the heights of the tube mounted in the base plate of the strobe and the sweet spot maximizing the power of reflectors and modifiers. This low-profile speedring design accommodates the lower tube mounting position found in Flashpoint XPLOR400 Pro and Flashpoint XPLOR300 Pro series monolights. You get the best bang for your buck for light from your flash, for softboxes with interchangeable speedrings to distribute with the best spread. Without the low-profile speedring design benefit, some of the light and heat produced may be 'trapped' into the collar ring of the mount and output compromised. The extra bit of utilization may make all the Guide Number difference.
