This light was powerful and worked well for what I needed, but only when it was working properly. My first battery died after a few months and wouldn't charge again no matter what I did after following support's direction. Got a replacement under warranty, but that one did the same thing in less time leaving me with no confidence in my light to work when I need it.

Great light, I use it mainly in the studio and it doesn't get much use. However, I just went to charge the battery and it won't take a charge, it's dead. Sad it didn't last more than a year with light use, and now I'm forced to purchase an expensive replacement.

This is a fantastic bundle to have! The quality of every piece in the bundle is exactly what I needed for my first strobe. The AD400 does great in direct sunlight. It gives just the right amount you need to have crisp and clean photographs.

Purchased on 5/24/24 and used once on 6/1/24. Stored batteries fully charged (not attached to strobe unit) and set timer on my phone to ensure I recharged battery packs every 2.5 months due to numerous complaints about the Godox/XPLOR 400 Pro battery issues. It's now 8/11/24 (less than 2.5 months since last full charge) and all four of my batteries are dead and won't recharge. Manual says to ensure batteries are recharged at least once every 3 months, which I am just over 2 months at this point. Very disappointing. I read all the concerns about the batteries and just figured people weren't following the recommendation regarding charging every 3 months. I can now confidently say, I'd 100% go with Westcott if I could do it all over.

Great light. Just be sure to charge the battery once every 3 months if not in use. Battery will go dormant and will need to be opened to jump start. Basically voltage get so low when stored for a significant time, that the battery stops taking charge.

Godox and Flashpoint know there's a problem with these batteries, they die if you keep charging them after they are fully charged. I have 3 of these lights, 2 of them arrived with dead batteries. I have to send the batteries somewhere else to be jump started and it's not free. new lights should come with batteries that work, but that's not the case with The XPLOR 400.

I've purchased the ad600 and the ad400, both are amazing lights when they work. Biggest issue is the batteries randomly just going brick. Seems like a common problem with all flashpoint products.

I loved these and would have given them a 5 star review, BUT recently I had the dreaded battery failure, on both of mine, which renders the light useless. That's a HORRIBLE design that you can't use them plugged in if the batteries fail. It turns out after hours of watching YouTube videos that this is common and they use archaic battery technology. Disassembling the battery and doing some little short circuit thing worked...for now. Next issue is that after a short while it starts to take a significant amount of time to recharge. I don't know if this is heat or not (I don't shoot fast). It's been very frustrating and caused issues with client shoots (as bad as missing 3 of 4 shots to a misfire. Still, for the $$, they are not bad. My ancient Alien Bees are ridiculous but have never, ever failed and it takes a significant amount of shots to overheat. I'd give them a 3.5 if I could. I don't know if I would buy them again after the battery issue. That almost made them useless and I've only used them a total of a few months over the past 2 years.

I love the consistency and refresh rate, output level, and flash duration of this strobe. Couldn't ask for anything more from a light at this price-point. Feels well built and well thought out and covers all the shooting modes that I use for in studio and outdoor, remote shoots.

Ever since I purchased these lights they have have been nothing but a complete headache. Some might call a disaster. I've used them on 100+ shoots and when working are great, but that is the issue. On almost every shoot I've used them on, one or more of them will not make it through more than a few dozen shots due a power glitch that kills the battery instantly and seemingly randomly. For this reason I always carry at least one backup unit and extra battery. Once dead, the battery must be disassembled and reset with a solution that can be found in internet chatrooms and youtube vids about the problem. (It's a well documented issue.) I have two of these and both may suddenly lose power during a normal shoot in normal conditions. Once swapped out with a new battery, the issue may reappear immediately or allow the shoot to finish. I have never been able to figure out when or where it will happen. After much stress I finally moved on to a more reliable solution as these lights have delayed or ruined more shoots than I can count. For a while I kept buying new ones to see if it was just a defective lemon, but the issue has been consistent. Hope this as least a warning to anyone considering the purchase. Aside from this issue, the lights can produce great images with good consistent color temp when they deliver power, but I cannot risk it any longer.

FlashPoint Lights have truly become indispensable in my studio. The AD400's, in particular, have emerged as my go-to choice for studio portraits. Their optimal weight and power make them ideal for my needs. What truly sets them apart is their unwavering consistency in both light output and color accuracy. I've come to rely on them for their reliability and stability. Without hesitation, I highly endorse these lights to fellow photographers.

There's not much to say about this line of strobes that hasn't been said already, but they're built well, they're inexpensive, and they continuously work! Need more power than the 200/200 Pro? Here it is, and it's only 1/2 stop less than the 600! It is also lighter and recycles just as fast, so it's much safer to have this atop your light stand than the 600. Let's not forget about the smaller Godox mount, which allows you to have the choice of a few smaller softboxes in your case than the Bowens mount softboxes. Already have Bowens mount modifiers? Great, because it comes with an adapter to use them also! Tried and true, Flashpoint strobes always deliver! I'm not paid or sponsored by Adorama, and this is a completely honest review!

It's a great flash, has been working really well. Just a couple things were disappointing/frustrating. The flash comes with a completely dead battery, so I had to wait longer than expected to actually do anything with it. Also, the Bowens mount required a screwdriver to put on and take off, which is inconvenient. And you can't pack the flash back up into the case without taking the Bowens mount back off, otherwise everything doesn't fit. Otherwise, it's been great!

I have 2 of them alongside a pair of the godox AD300/Flashpoint Xplor 300 units, and have a very difficult time deciding which I like more - each model has it's own special niche, and when they are teamed up... outstanding. the 400's are the clear winner in terms of cycle time, and the 300's have the edge in absolute portability. the 400s in particular can be effectively color matched to profoto D2 lights with just 2 points of magenta @ 5800K when using the WB adjustment capabilities of Canon cameras.

I bought this Xplor 400 Pro in used condition that was marked as "E", and expected a monolight in great condition. What I got instead, however, was a light that was scratched, dinged and dirty all over, a flash tube that looked like it was thrown from a car, and a case with literal garbage and dead plant materials inside of it. This is my first purchase from Adorama, and if this is the condition of used gear that they sell as "high quality" I think I'll stick to buying pre-owned gear from B&H, MPB, KEH or wherever else that sells clean products AND offers free shipping. Not super impressed with Adorama after this one. At least the light seems to work with test firing it, but I'll have to see when I actually hook it up and use it.

Big improvement
By JEFF M.
Downsized to this unit from the original Flashpoint 600. Improvements are smaller size and weight, good for location work, much better stand mount, faster recycling, color stability, better designed flash tube and reflector for accessories, better modeling light and hand grip for carrying and adjusting.
Incredible for the package and price

Great strobe. I am a architectural photographer and this is a great location strobe. I also use the eVolv 200's and they make a great set of flashes for location work. Price is great and quality is top notch. I have been using flashpoint (Godox) equipment for the last 3 years on over 600 shoots and they have been bulletproof.
