Great value in a tripod

I've had this tripod for about two years now. I've used it with my Nikon D90 and found it to be a great match for a camera of that size. This tripod is a great value compared to the name brands. Its rugid, I just had it in water, mud, and tough terrain photgraphing a trout stream. It handled the conditions well. I able to easily dis assemble the tripod and clean it.

Very Nice Tripod

I've owned Manfrotto, Gitzo, Induro, Cullman, you name it. The Flashpoint F-1228 is a very well made tripod . I've not used it extensively yet but compared to other tripods I've owned, I have no reason to believe it won't be durable and reliable well into the future. Everything operates smoothly and appears very well made.

Good sturdy, light weight tripod

Good lightweight for field use. Can pack it around all day in all weather. Quick to set up and take down. Use it with Canon 5D MK3 with 100-400 lens with good stability.

Great Tripod...great price too

Only wished the bag it comes with was big enough to hold the head the camera attaches to. Otherwise...great product.

I would not buy this product again.

The bubble level does not work even after 3 rounds of sending back for replacements. The sales support person was very friendly but the return department service was less than satisfactory; although, the return department sent a bubble level cube as a replacement instead (thanks). Anyway, at the end of day, still not getting a tripod with a working bubble level except an additional accessory (cube) to carry around. Other than the level, (which could be trivial as I had expressed right at the beginning) the tripod works great.

Love it! Works great!

I bought my 1228 after a friend bought the same setup. I love how the legs are adjustable by twisting a ring on the legs, instead of a knob. Smacking my knuckles on my old legs with knobs in the dead of a Minnesota winter made this a no-brained for me.

Good value

I am still not sure if I am happy with it, but on my 3rd tripod. I wanted something to carry with my back bag, but this tripod seem too big and heavy for that. I'll probably keep it for home use and keep on looking. Also, I did realized it came without the head, which I had to spend another $80

so far, love it.....easy to use!!!

I live in New England and this has been wonderful even in the terrible icy snow conditions!! It is easy to use, quick to set up so I don't waste time in the freezing cold!! I am trying to learn HDR photograpy and needed a stable tripod for DSLR and heavy lenses, this is perfect!!

I love it!

This tripod is ideal for virtually any DSLR and most lenses, with the exception of pro 400mm and up.

[...] failure

I really like the tripod, except [...] due to the legs falling apart. Its light, seems sturdy enough and the price was right for those of us that cant afford the $700 sets. BUT.... When it fails twice for the same issue then something is wrong. This should not happen and from what I read I am not the only one with this issue.I will be scraping some additional money together to buy a better set of legs[...]

Well worth the money

I received this tripod about two weeks ago. Have used it on five portrait sessions, it's set up as fast, easily supports camera and lens. It is light weight to carry and rock solid. I would highly recommend this to any photographer who is looking to lighten your load.

Great Value

This tripod compares very well to the more expensive models out there. The fit and finish were very good coming out of the box. After several months wear the ferrules on a couple of legs have come loose, but do not effect the usability of the tripod. I comes with a wrench to tighten the attachment nut on top.

a great tri pod

[...]very happy with the unit. It is light weight and every thing I needed. The best part about my purchase was how good the tri pod works, the second best is the price. The only thing missing is a set screw to lock the head and keep it from unscrewing while rotating. not a big issue.

Nice Balance of Utility and Stability

I debated for a while over this model or the next one up. I wanted something lightweight for travel and short hikes, but stable enough to hold my Sony A900 and heavier lenses, like the CZ24-70 and Minolta APO G lenses. This tripod seems to fill my needs. It is plenty stable and I may have regretted the extra weight of the larger model. It's a snap to set up - the legs extend and lock quickly. They also adjust wide to accomodate shooting close to the ground. I know there are better, more stable and more expensive tripods out there, but at this price you can't go wrong if photography is more a hobby than a full-time occupation.

Solid Performer

I used one with a Manfrotto 808RC4 head. When I bought a Flashpoint gimbal head I bought a second F-1228 so I could have both heads mounted. Tripod is heavy with either of these heads but it does what it was designed to do, provides a solid, dependable support no matter the terrain.

Avoid buying it

Took it out for the first time on a trip to Yellowstone in Jan and it worked fine the first two days. On the third day the middle of the 3 legs came apart and cannot be repaired that I can tell. [...] It is cheaply made and the leg component is held together by some form of apoxy and two plastic halfs that come together on the inside. Found it couldn't hold the D700 and lens solidly and appeared to bend.

I Love this Tripod

I use this tripod with the F2 ball-head and I love it. Long exposures (even in the wind)...I find that now that I have a great tripod, that I use it more often, and my photography has benefited from it.

Flashpoint Tripod

I have this tripod and a Gitzmo Mountaineer tripod. The Montaineer Carbon Tripod is the one below this one. The Mountaineer Tripod can support 17.6 lbs and the flashpoint supports 17.6 lbs. The mountaineer tripod is much more sturdy and less vibration so I replace the Flashpoint F-1228 with the Flashpoint that supports 26 lbs. The 26 lb flashpoint is equal to the Mountaineer 17.6 lb tripod but about $300 cheaper. With the Flashpoint I would get one tripod heavier than it suggest.

Light but sturdy

I got tired of hauling my trusty, heavy old Bogen around and decided to try the Flashpoint 1228 for price and weight - both important. I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality and sturdiness and think that it is a good value. I don't use really heavy gear so the weight limits are well within my range. The tripod sets up easily and quickly. I'm looking forward to using it in the Galapagos soon.

I would recommend to a friend

The product is great, but you should check everything before leave the store, if the bag is working, if the quick realease is good or not, if all the tools that suppose to be inside the box is there. I had to return the first tripod that I bought (the bag was with a tear), and then I bought the same one once again (and then was missing some tools that suppose to be inside...).I had the same problem with the ball head - the quick realease was already broken when I bought it...Beside those "details", the product is excellent.[...]

Well made and easy to use.

I read a lot of reviews before finally deciding to purchase. Several of the reviewers were dissappointed in the quality of workmanship but I thought for the price for a carbon fiber tripod, I'd take a chance. When my tripod arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was in fact very well made and nicely finished. The ball head rotates smoothly and locks down solid. Several of the cons in the reviews stated that it wouldn't fit into it's carrying case with the ball head attached. I found that by rotating the ball to the 90°notch on the side, the tripod will fit snugly into the case with the ball head still connected. I'm very happy with this tripod and would recommend it to anyone.

I was concerned on the quality, since it was so much less than the name brands. I was not disappointed; the tripod legs are strong and open and close easily.

Sturdy and Compact

I spent a day shooting wildlife w/ tripod mounted 100-400, Giottos 1301 ball head and remote shutter release. Felt sturdy, am happy with my decisions. A plus-it all fits into the quality constructed supplied bag. My suggestion for design upgrade would be to include ring(s) to attach carry strap for convenience. It's a good value. Friends with similar style but more expensive tripods are impressed.

About Flashpoint CF1228 Carbon Fiber Tripod, Supports 17.6Lbs

• Adorama has studied for many years the needs and wants of the beginner, advanced and professional photographer. All the equipment that bears the Flashpoint name meets these essential qualifications, equipment that is dependable at a fair price. The Flashpoint Carbon Fiber Tripods are yet another fine example that follows in the Flashpoint tradition; high quality tripods that can go the distance. Made to Adorama's specifications, you'll feel the quality the first time you set it up. Leg locks that work! They open and close with ease. Pride of ownership is only a small reason to have one of these fine tripods in your equipment bag.
• Featuring classic European Styling, these Flashpoint tripods have all the features of other carbon fiber tripods, except the high price. Besides its legendary light weight, carbon fiber does not transfer heat like aluminum, but does absorb vibrations. This feature helps to insure sharper images.
• All Flashpoint tripod legs have rubber double-grip twist locks. The center column can be separated into a low column for ground level use. The supplied wrench can adjust the leg friction to match the photographers needs. Leg tips can be set with either a rubber pad or ground spike for rugged terrain.
