Questions & Answers

Pat T : I use camera in cold winter with gloves. What is the ease of operation with gloves and frozen fingers? are u happy with the ease to switch from horizontal to vertical and various angles would u recommend to a friend? thnxDENIM H : I honestly cant tell you because this particular head was on backorder and after waiting 3 weeks i cancelled that head and bought the F4. Which I have used only once and that was in Yellowstone with gloves and I found it easy to use. All I can say if ordering from Adorama make sure its in stock. I have placed 3 orders and 2 (the F2 ball head and extra quick release brackets for my F4 have all been out of stock and back ordered)RODNEY E : Pat T. I like the F-1228 Carbon Fiber Tripod. It is sturdy and strong and although I haven't had to wear gloves when using it, the locking rings are probably large enough to operate if gloves are worn. I returned the FPTH2 Magnesium Alloy F2 Quick release Ball Head because the quick release mechanism did not work correctly. The ball head did not hold the camera, with a 70-200 F2.8 lens attached, when used in the portrait mode. I did not get a replacement of the same make, I chose to order a different make, which has turned out to be much better. I would recommend the tripod, but not the ballhead.KEVIN P : This tripod/ball head combination is fine in terms of achieving the various angles. If you are going to use it a lot, I'd consider going with one of the known name brands, though. This is a good value, but the quality is not very high.

Very good tripod for excellent price

This is a replacement tripod for my wife. It is easily strong enough to support her DSLR and lenses, and light enough for her to carry with her small backpack

Great Ball Head!

This is my first ball head I've purchased. It is very sturdy and fluid in motion. I would definately recommend this head for your tripod! I purchased it with the Flashpoint F-1228 Carbon Fiber Tripod.

Exactly what I had been looking for

Since the purchase of my Canon 5D M3, I have been looking for a lightweight, yet sturdy enough tripod, that will handle the weight of my 5D, when I take it and all the other gear necessary, on sometimes long hikes into the outback. Using my old Manfrotto 486RC2 Ballhead, it remains "rock solid", even when using in the vertical, and even with my unbelievably heavy Sigma 120-400mm attached, which, if you have one, you know that it alone requires a Sherpa to carry it for you. Simply Amazing.

Good, but not the best build quality

I bought this as a temporary replacement for a Giottos MT-8250 that I lost. This Flashpoint is very similar in terms of specs to the Giottos at almost 1/3rd the price. While it functions as advertised, the build quality is clearly a couple of steps down from the Giottos. My first impression was how much heavier it feels (even though the specs have a roughly similar weight). But more importantly, there are a lot of plastic parts (for example on the leg angle locks and the center column bottom screw cap) that over time will absolutely break or wear out with even moderate use. The first time I used this tripod was on a recent hike where I needed to set up the tripod in semi-muddy water. After pulling it out, the threads on the leg locks were gummed up with grit, one of the rubber grips on the leg twist locks had come off, and even after cleaning it when I got home, the legs now make a sliding/grinding sound when extending them. Much of this was caused by the leg locks not having gaskets around them. So my bottom line is that this will not be a long term tripod for outdoor use. If you use it in a studio environment, it may be fine, but you really don't need a lightweight compact carbon fiber tripod if that's your primary use -- there are better options. For the price, its ok, but just realize that there are important quality features that you're missing out on with this tripod

Tripod for travel.

I really like the F-1228 tripod because of its light weight, it also comes with carrying bag, and it made the tripod perfect for air travel. I only have this tripod for a week so doesn't know how durable it is, but the construction of the tripod seems very well built. I gave it four stars because this is my second F-1228 tripod and the first one I received had a defective bubble balance and I returned it. Adorama return policy is very simple and quick and I like that.

Nice and Light Tripod

Leg can come off if the turn knob gets loosen too far. It would be nice there is a stopper at each turn knob for each section of the legs. The flip side of a light tripod is it may not be stable under a strong wind condition. However, it is a good tripod with the price overall and for long walking distance.

Great Product & Great Value

I was a little reluctant at first when I saw the price but knew that with Adorama I could easily return it. No need for that, I was very pleased with the item. I use it mostly for landscape shots so first off it's light to carry. If you need more weight it has the hook on the center pole to add it. I have not had to do this yet. It came with a ball head which wasn't bad but I had a better one and switched it but I'm sure the one that came with it would have worked well. It's easy and quick to open and close plus the legs will open all the way. The nice thing is it's light enough to carry when you're hiking into a spot and sturdy enough under most circumstances to get the job done.

Happy with Purchase!

As a result of reviews on the site, I purchased this tripod to help improve stability for my new DSLR. A hobby photographer, I need something lightweight and easy to use. While I wouldn't yet call this one 'easy to use' - as I am still trying to get comfortable with single-leg adjustments - I am confident it will be with continued use. The only reason I didn't award a fifth star is that I could benefit from a dual direction level. The greatest problem I am having is with leveling all three legs so that I'm not spending post production time straightening my images. I am very happy with my purchase!

An excellent value in a lightweight tripod. Compares to a much more expensive tripod of comparable size.`

Excellent Portable Tripod

I shoot run-and-gun style video almost everyday at work and this tripod really suits all my needs, even with the 5D and varying lenses.

Good features, poor quality

The tripod holds my Canon 7D and 100-400mm lens with no problem at all and is very stable. I also had one leg come detached and fluid from level is gone.
