It really just depends on how big the mats are. If the issue is depth you've got 3 inches and can plan accordingly. Reasonably sturdy thanks to metal edges.SASCHJA M : They will hold anything matted & or over matted up to the 16x20 size. The boxes are also quite sturdy. I store my matted & over matted photos in them without any problem & am very satisfied with them. I hope this helps with your decision.
