Questions & Answers

judith r : May I hear from someone about its performance from someone who has purchased this model and is happy with its work?PAIGE G : This is a great shredder. I absolutely love it & have never had a problem with it. I use the lubricating sheets each time after I empty the wastebasket which I believe helps prolong the life of the shredder. I buy them at Office Depot. I also very rarely put in 11 sheets at one time. It can handle it, but the motor really sounds like it is laboring, so I usually put in 5 to 8 sheets and it works great. My wastebasket is made of wire, so I cannot speak for the plastic wastebasket on this year's model. This is actually my second DS-3 shredder. I had the first one for four years. My college-aged son jammed up my first one then tried to remedy the situation with a knife. It didn't work out too well. Anyway, I looked everywhere for a new DS-3 because I loved it so much. Couldn't find it in any stores, but luckily found it for a great price on the Adorama website. I was so happy and very satisfied with the transaction.Rupesh P : I purchased it about 2 years ago. It's still working great. I love it. it's high powered, cuts a good quantity of pages at once, cuts through cards, senses hands when they are too close, etc. If it's for a cubicle at work, it is a tad bit noisy because it is powerful. I will pay up a little for something that is heavy duty, performs great, and lasts long. I am truly happy with this purchase.AARON C : Have used this over a year now. Wonderful shredder.. We use it regularly, but not everyday.HUGH M : Yes, love it. only use it shred (a lot of) paper. Make sure you use fellowes oil to keep it lubricated. (shop around for the oil!!) The power switch is in a strange spot but good design. good luck!MICHAEL O : I've used this shredder for several months now and am very pleased with its performance. For home use, it's more than adequate. To date I haven't had a single malfunction or jam. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.FRANCIS W : My shredder Fellowes Powershred DS-1 works very well and flawless. I would recommend it to anyone.JANUSZ W : Good reliable shredder ! Value for the money. I am using it at home couple time a week with no problem. The removable basket is especially handy feature.SUSAN E : I do like the shredder. I use it in my home for personal use. The only negative is that the details say you can put in 10 pieces of paper but your taking a chance with any more than 7, 8x11 sheets of paper. And if the piece is thicker like some post card mailers you would put in less. That being said, I've had the shredder for over a year and it still operates as well as it did when it was new. One hint, if the wastebasket is removed make certain that it's replaced properly (very easy to do) or else it won't work. I found thas out after the first timr my housekeeper emptied it. My favorite feature is there is no mess when the basket is being removed. My last shredder made a mess of little bits of paper every where. Definitley not so with this.BRIGGS M : I have purchased 2 of these units over the past several years and have been quite pleased with each one and no problems to report KATHY L : I bought a Fellowes Powershred Personal DS-2 Cross-Cut Shredder, Shreds 8 Sheets per Pass, 18 Ft/Min, 4.8 Gallon Basket, a similar item, on February 7, 2012. It is used at home and meets our needs well, but we don't have a lot to shred except for papers with personal information. I am happy with it and have had no problems with it. I do like the safety feature that if someone touchs it while it is running, it stops immediately. Also, I like being able to see how full it is to know when to empty.LES R : I couldn't be happier than I am with this shredder.JEFF M : The shredder is used only occassionally in a small office. We shred no more than 20 pages per week on average and typically no more than 2 pages in one pass. The shredder has performed as expected and without problems. We are very satisfied with the shredder.PATRICK M : Very good cross cut shredder, I haven't had any problems with it. I just use it for personel use. I purchased it sometime ago. Fellowes is one of the best brands out there.PETER G : I have a very similar unit and couldn't be happier. I had previously owned the old Bulldog, which appears to be the ancestor of this and my current unit... my parents commandeered it years ago and are still shredding with it. The old bulldog will occasionally fail to turn on but it sounds like it just needs a replacement solenoid...my current unit has has no such problems.
judith r : How big is it or what is its capacity? With that photograph is hard to know.JOSEPH Y : I fits a standard 8 1/2 inch piece of paper. I don't recall the maximum number of sheets, but I typically shred 4-5 at a time with no problems.JOHN L : It has a sliding arm to fit over any large mouth waste basket.ANDREW R : The tech specs on this unit indicate that it measures 16.50" x 15" x 12" and has a 5 gallon capacity.

Excellent purchase for the pice

This is a small but powerful unit. Great for the home or office. Powerful enough for several documents to be shredded at once.

Horrible Product & Bad Customer Service

I purchased this product 3 months ago and while shredding plain cardboard greeting cards the machine jammed and the plastic teeth inside broke. After going back and forth with customer service I was told the unit was no longer under warranty and as a "One time courtesy" they were sending me a replacement which was a much cheaper and more basic model. How is that fair? Only filled it 3 times in 3 months and the warranty is 1-year Product Warranty with a 5-year Cutter Warranty and I am being told it's out of warranty!!!!!!!!!!!! That's messed up

I am especially impressed with the quiet operation of this shredder. The handle for picking up the shredder is a bonus and will be very helpful to me.

Great little Workhorse

After much online shopping and reading reviews I settled on this powerful and sturdy model. My old shredder had served a very long and useful life but was no longer functional. I was surprised to see the lack of shredder models for Home / Home Office use that didn't also have a trash receptacle, I find that quite useful and just don't want to take up the extra space. So far I have tried out up to 5-6 sheets of paper with staples and old Credit Cards with no problem whatsoever. Much more quiet than my last one for sure and great overall design. I line it with a kitchen trash bag for easy, dust free disposal.

Best Shedder Ever!

This is the best shredder that I have ever used. It has lots of power and it shreds 10 sheets of paper without any problem. I also like the 5 gallon bin that comes with the shredder. You can shred a lot of paper without stopping to constantly empty the bin. The price was right too.

Powershred DS 3 Crosscut

I received this shredder this am and am busy shredding papers. It is so quiet. Shreds well, .By far a better shredder than I had before. Sturdy constructions is a plus. Another plus is the safety feature that stops the shredder when touched as I hace 2 cats. Love the Fellows Crosscut.

So far, so good.

We have only had the shredder for 2 weeks. Therefore, to early to know how it is going to hold up. Definitely better quality then our old one, that would jam a lot. This one is much heavier then our old one. We were pleased with that. Doing a lot of shredding of old papers. Seems to handle the load pretty good. Being that it is a cross shredder - fills bin up real quick & pieces stay trapped in shredder when you go to dump it, which is messy. No matter how much I try, I get little pieces all over the floor. Working on coming up with a better system.

Screw loose but it works

It would have better if there wasn't something rattling around in the shredder.

Great Shredder

The shredder came today so for durability I am only guessing. It seems to be very sturdy, much stronger and heavier than the one it replaced. It is attractive and I like the chute to throw non shred trash in. It does away with the trash can by the desk! Also the safety feature of shutting down when the input area is touched is a great idea.

Practical paper shredder for home use!

I bought the Fellowes DS-3 10 shredder to replace another product. The DS-3 is more powerful and handles my needs with ease. I like the design which makes it easier to see when the bin is full. It is also easier to empty. I look forward to use this shredder for a long time.

Nice Personal Shedder

So far, working as expected. Wish container was larger, but holds about 5 gal. Good looking design for home office. Recycle or compost your waste. Separate credit cards and other high gloss paper by placing trash bag in container while shredding them and dispose of them separately.

Excellent Purchase

I had a year's worth of personal and work papers that needed to be shredded. I had no problems and it worked amazingly well! I've noticed that some who have purchased this complained of noise. It is a bit noisy, but it is not as loud as the large shredder at my workplace.

Excellent Reliable Shredder

A stylish looking shredder that works superbly. The safety shutoff works perfectly and is a must have if there are children around. However the top must be lifted off to empty the bin and it can become messy. But the qualities of the machine for its price makes it a great choice despite that drawback.

Powershred DS-3 is good answer to shredder questio

I have been seeking a decent light-duty shredder on store shelves in the San Francisco area for a couple of years. What struck me was that the selection could be great or small and still there was no reliable way to distinguish one from another. So buying a shredder is a lot like buying a kitchen appliance: in fact, I think there should be a category called office appliances. This shredder appeared on a review site as the economical "home office" alternative to a more heavy-duty Fellowes-brand shredder, and received hundreds if not thousands (I forget which) of positive reviews. I have only had it for about a week but the first impressions are all favorable. The business end of the appliance does not seem underpowered, which was my main concern, and it is simple to operate. The plastic basket and enclosure for the shredder are inevitable but look more serviceable than tacky. I can't really comment or jucge beyond these general qualities because I have not used it over time, but I like it so far.

Thinges to know

This shredder is strong and not too noisy, the only problem I have is that the container is not real strong. There is a small tab that the unit sets on that operates a switch that keeps it from operating that must be pushed. Too easy to break off, then no shredder.

I can't complain. Our shredder's motor gave up after I overloaded it. This one is working fine so far, although time will tell how it will last. :)

Good

We've had this shredder about two weeks. It does what it said it would do. My only complaint is that it is very loud. The other Fellowes shredder that we had for 12 years did about the same things but it was much quieter. We hope this one lasts as long as the previous one which received a lot of work.

The Best so far

So far I am really enjoying my new shredder. It doesn't seem to jam up like some of the other shredders I've own, and hoping it will continue to give me good service. AE

great shredder

By donled

This is my second DS-3 shredder. I have one at home and also in my office. My first one I bought six months ago, and iworks very well. My second one works very well, as well. but is a little noisier than the first, but I can live with that.

The Fellowes DS-3 is designed for home and small office use. It is equipped with a powerful motor that can drive the shredder blades to process 10 pieces of papers in one pass. After going through the blades, the papers are turned into confetti sized 5/32" x 2" that are impossible to read or reassemble. They are introduced into the machine via a 9-inch wide entry slot, which means it is wide enough for regular sized letters and documents.

The blades are strong enough to cut staple wires, paper clips and credit cards. Although it does not have a separate slot for credit cards, an icon above the entry slot indicates where they should be inserted. Shredded materials fall into a wastebasket with a 5-gallon capacity. It has a transparent window at its front allowing you to see if it is full and needs emptying. At the top of the basket is an opening through which you can throw non-confidential waste paper. When it needs to be emptied, you can use the folding handle on the shredder head to lift it from the basket.

Papers are shredded at a rate of 10 feet per minute. Running the machine beyond five minutes, however, can cause overheating. Indeed, after each five-minute run, you need to cool the motor down for 20 minutes. Although a five-minute run may appear short, it is actually the equivalent of shredding over 100 pieces of legal sized documents.
