Fellowes Powershred 79Ci Jam-Proof Cross-Cut Shredder

I purchased this very same model (Powershred 79Ci) in 2011 and it held until August-2025 when finally the selector switch (for on and forward/reverse running the shredder wheel) quit working -- and the cutting wheels also were becoming dull. I was very happy with the 79Ci and therefore purchased the replacement. I can highly recommend this cross cut shredder.

I purchased this shredder to replace a Fellowes shredder that I had for over 20 years. She died! I looked at what was available online, but I truly believed nothing is better than a Fellowes. My last shredder proved that. I read reviews to do a comparison of a variety of shredders, but again, nothing beats a Fellowes. Thank you for continuing in making an Excellent Product!!

I am replacing a MS460ci micro cross cut shredder which is no longer made. This unit arrived and I found the trim surrounding of one of the wheel mounts dented. It did not stop me from mounting the four caster wheels. I have found a number of issues - 1) The machine doesn't appear to grab the paper all along the entrance. If you have a till receipt put it in the centre if you want to activate the feed. 2) There is a slight noise at the end of a paper shred as though something is unbalanced. I'd call it a vibration I've not had in my previous Fellowes shredder. Finally and most importantly 3) It does NOT run for 20 minutes and rest for 30 minutes. I had a pile of letters and envelopes to shred. Nothing too thick. I'd guess it could run for some 15 minutes or less before the lamp came on saying we had to stop. The machine also sometimes stops without warning with no lights. Its only after opening the basket you might find its full and needs to be emptied. THEN the light comes on after you have opened the basket. Apart from that I hope it gives us good service. Its only used in a domestic environment to shred old credit card bills and invoices.

I have tried multiple shredders with no success.. This shredder has good capacity and able to do cards, paper clips c/d/rom disks etc. i seldom have had to stop for a cool down period. Easy to empty. Very happy.

First of all I ordered the shredder through Amazon. I was shocked to see how soon it was sent out. The size is perfect for my needs. Instructions are very clear and the performance of the machine was outstanding. Everything was just as described when the order was placed.

I cannot address durability or warranty as I've only had it a month. It is very quiet compared to my 15 year old shredder that died. Shred size is not NOT secure, you can read complete 16 digit account numbers, full names and other supposedly secure data. The bin size is also rather small but that is manageable.

First piece of home office equipment I've ever had that doesn't have any "Cons"...just all "Pros." Quiet, efficient operation, excellent safety "Stop" feature, handles all my junk mail, card brochures/pamphlets, safely stores shredded material in a plastic bag easily accessible by pulling out bin from the front, no worry about removing staples or paper clips, modern style, fits perfectly under my desk. Highly recommend to others.

This is my second Fellowes Shredder. The first one lasted more than 10 years, far exceeding my expectations. Without exaggerating, it probably shredded more than 55 boxes of paper and other miscellaneous documents over its lifetime. Fellowes shredders are very reliable and cost-effective. Would choose no other!

Happy with the safety features for this shredder, I don't have to worry about one of my kids (3 under 3) messing with it. It's also very quiet and we can now shred at night without worrying about waking up half the house. I haven't shredded a ton of items, but definitely looking forward to never dealing with paper jams again.

I purchased this shredder because I got tired of how my previous Insignia shredder would jam even when trying to shred less than it was rated for. The Fellowes 79Ci is much more powerful than my previous shredder and will even tell me if I am trying shred too much at once before it has a chance to jam It can also stop and back up really thick stuff automatically to continue shredding without me having to do a thing. Overall I am happy with this shredder. The only two items I would improve is the bin needs to be a little bigger and the automatic sleep mode is a little confusing. These aren't issues really but just a couple of improvements for future versions.

Received a new 79Ci last week and immediately put it to work. Amazed at how many sheets of paper it will take and with a 5 year old grandson over at my house quite often, the safety measures on it are great over my past one. Actually, to be fair the 25+ year old Fellowes shredder still works , it just has a broken switch after all these years so you have to hold one button down to get it to work. Makes it a bit more cumbersome for continuous feed, but impossible to complain since it is around 25--26 years old. This is my third Fellowes, but the 2nd one I used at work, before I retired, was extremely trouble free and durable, but not quite tough enough to fall on the concrete off the tailgate of my pickup and survive , ha. I will say ,for the money , this new one is a bargain and I can easily imagine it will last longer than I will. I plan on taking my ancient one in to Goodwill since I am sure it will give someone solid usage for a few more years!

Bought this one two days ago and go it today. It is replacement for 73Ci model (also good except for one thing - noisy noisy noisy!!!). 79Ci so far is what I would have want from the point of noise. Other features are great as with other Fellowes I had.

Purchased a Powershred PS14CI a number of years ago and after probably a ton of paper the unit finally gave out. Moved out of state and after getting set up purchased the Powershred 79CI. I believe that this is a new and improved version of my previous shredder. Quite operation, pull out collection bin, handles up to 16 pages at a time and shred size is roughly 5/32" x 1.5" of crosscut paper. Can't praise this item enough.

What a joy to use your paper shredder. A friend gave me a shredder made by one of your competitors. VERY frustrating to use, jammed constantly......the fellowes machine is a dream to use, well built, very very impressed with its operation!

bought the 79Ci model of shredder because i need to shred 12 - 16 pages at a time. this is heavy duty and works great. glad i made this purchase. if you need a good shredder go with this one.

Just replaced our Fellowes shredder with another new Fellowes shredder after using every day in my office for over 9 years. The other MAIN reason we buy Fellowes shredders is the fact it has the safety if anyone (small children or out pets or others with long hair, etc.) stops in and should accidentally go near this shredder it immediately stops. This should be a law that all shredders have this. I saw a video years ago when a dog got his tongue caught in a shredder and I never got over that site. Thank god not our dogs but regardless the thought that it can happen is more than enough reason to purchase only a shredder that has this safety feature. The replacement unit seems slightly upgraded with a timer that shuts the unit off if not in use a while and starts right back up if you insert a paper to shred (leaving that safety factor still in tack). The shredder is definitely a winner for all the above reasons

This is the second Fellowes shredder that I have purchased for the office. This Fellowes shredder bags do not fit nicely in the receptacle. You have to really fight it to get the plastic liner bag to fit inside. The receptacle for catching shredded paper doesn't seem to work very well as it fills up very quickly again I think it is a poor design. I did just minimal shredding and I had to open the door and push the shredded paper down before I could continue. Not thrilled with this unit.
