I love this product!

I was using another diffuser and read the reviews for this product. The Light Sphere is far superior. The only thing that I'm not keen about is its size - it looks like a rainguage sitting on top of my flash - but that's what makes it work so well - even diffusion over the entire subject. In spite of being "dog ugly", I would not hesitate in buying or recommending it to friends.

Great Price Great Diffuser

Great diffuser especially for the price. A friend has the same flash unit with one of the cheaper diffusers. You can definatly see a difference with this one.

No more washed out portraits!

I have been using my Lightsphere for a couple years now. In fact I lost my first one and missed it so much that I quickly bought another one. Fantastic for fill flashes and just for general picture taking. I love it!

Great tupperware

I have never had good luck taking indoor flash photos of people. This thing helped me improve.

Works like advertised.

The lightsphere works very well as a means of softening up a portable strobe such as the Nikon SB-800 or Canon 580EX. It works exceptionally well inside by allowing light to bounce off the ceiling and also provide some direct fill light. I typically use it as more of a fill light in conjunction with a softbox or shoot-through umbrella. Outdoors, you just aim the flash directly at the subject and this is far superior to an unmodified flash, but it certainly isn't as soft as a umbrella or softbox. All in all, it is a useful lighting modifier.

Simple but very effective!

This diffuser works as advertised, plus I was surprised to see it was made in the USA. The instructional video that comes with it, does a nice job demonstrating the capabilities, however it also includes Gary Fongs other products as well. When I was watching it, I almost felt I made a mistake in buying the lightsphere, as the Whaletail product seems better after watching the video. That said, I think you will be happy with the results of the Lightsphere. I also have a Sto-Fen Omni Bounce, and to use it as directed, you need to aim your flash unit at a 45 degree angle, and bounce off a white ceiling. My problem was I could never seem to find a nice white, smooth ceiling. I would then shoot the Omni Bounce diffuser directly at the subject to compensate. The Lightsphere seems to address this problem, as there's a lid you can put on top. The Lightshere also reduces the harsh shadows, when shooting Portraits, and the Racoon Eyes effect known when bouncing off ceilings, and outdoors.

an indestructable photo accessory

I bought this after seeing another photographer using one at a wedding. I asked him in detail how he found it helpful, its light output, range, etc. I decided based on his recommendation to purchase one. First, you must experiment with your flash to find the best power settings....I found I had to boost my flash one stop to get the best light output in a large church sanctuary. In standard rooms with 8-10 foot ceilings this jewel really came into its own. You will find the enclosed video helpful but again, experiment first.....

A handy tool for photograhers

I have used this for a short time in the studio and indoor application. Does a fantastic job until you are out 15-20 feet from the source. You just need to remember at greater distances to remove it from the flash.

The shadow eraser

Very pleased with this diffuser. Really helps to eliminate harsh shadows. I Used this for a wedding recently and it worked great. I recommend a little practice if using to shoot a large group because shots may come up a little under exposed but not so bad that a minor adjustment can't remedy. It did not drain my battery power on my flash as much as I thought it would. I shot about 700 pics with my Canon 30d and 580EX and exchanged batteries only once.

Worth Its Weight in Gold

This item is worth its weight in gold for photographers who shoot people. As a wedding photographer, I would pay twice this amount for what is essentially a piece of tupperware! The quality of the light that comes from this thing mounted to my 30D/580EX rig is second to nothing else I've found. Heartily Recommended. [...]
