Nice bag for SLR + multiple lenses

I have a pile (literally) of camera bags in the closet, but have used the Pro Slinger for several years on a daily basis for my walk-around kit. Quite happy with it! There's enough room for a Canon 20D with medium zoom attached, a 70-200 f4 lens, and (up to) a 100mm f2.8 macro lens -- all three lenses with lens hoods attached reversed -- plus a spare body cap/lens cap and a tiny Gossen light meter in the main compartment. Some specific "medium zooms" that fit with reversed hoods: Canon 23-135mm f3.5-5.6, 24-105mm f4, 17-85mm f4-5.6, 17-55mm f2.8. I've stacked a couple of small primes instead of the 100mm macro as an alternate loadout, too. The other pockets aren't real big, but easily big enough for several filter stacks, a couple of memory card cases, a cleaning kit, a spare battery, and a small notebook and mechanical pencil. Plus a couple of water bottles in the side mesh pouches. If you are carrying lots of film, or big f2.8 zooms, this bag may be too small. If you are traveling very light, for instance with single small- to medium-sized lens, this bag will be too large. But I've found it useful for the amount of gear I am willing to actually carry around every day. The strap is probably a love-it-or-hate-it thing. It's asymmetrical and it's sewn along a long seam of the body on one side. That pretty much forces you to wear the bag on the right side of your body. Being right handed, I don't find this a problem, and can comfortably wear the bag anywhere from right-belly, through right-hip, to right-rump. Also, the strap can be ungainly when not worn. I fold the strap up so it stuffs in one of the side mesh pouches unless I am actively using the strap, and routinely carry the bag by the handle (with the top fastened, of course); this is sufficiently neat and tidy for me.

Great bag series!

I've used the original Slinger for a few years now, when I upgraded to the 7D I added a battery grip which made it just a bit too big for the Slinger. I upgraded to the Pro Slinger which holds everything great, let me organize it better but it's just a bit big for a daily carry bag. Not it's fault, I carry too much stuff! I'm probably going back to the Slinger for daily use and will use this when I need everything.

eeehhh

I would not buy this bag again, in fact it has sat in my office since I've bought it. I use it for storage only as it is too big for any sort of use walking, hiking, etc. I am a small woman (5'4") and I just can't see this thing sitting on my hip or low back and protruding 12" (ish). I guess if you're bigger and you use it to simply go from one shoot to the other it would be very handy, but don't buy it if you're going to be on the go while taking photos such as hiking or walking any distance.

Strap an issue

I used the regular Slinger for a couple of years but found that is was often too small. The Pro version is much larger than I anticipated. Plenty of storage pockets, etc. Well made. A serious limitation is the strap, which appears to be the same narrow, almost non-padded version as on the much smaller regular Slinger. Very uncomfortable when the bag is moderately loaded. Also, can't be replaced or sides switched. I added an after market pad that help but could use more padding. If the strap was greatly modified this would be a handy larger bag. Like the waist strap for helping relieve strap pressure.

Keeps coming back to it!

I've actually owned this for about 3 years now. I have multitude of camera bags, from the bulky to the cutest "ladies" bag. I find myself going for this bag when I go for a quick shoot. I mainly use it as a transport bag for my lenses. I can fit 70-200, 50, a 35 and a flash. It is too small to fit my camera with another lens attached to it. I am petite and the shoulder strap with the hip strap is just perfect without weighing me down. It somehow distributes the weight. I have another lens bag with no hip strap and my shoulders hurt after awhile. I wish it is a little "lady-like". But when you are shooting for a couple of hours without having to drag your entire gear, this is it.

Awesome bag

I love this bag. It holds my D200 with lens, two extra lenses, and my flash -- all in the main compartment. I stuff my battery chargers, extra batteries, memory cards, cables, and field guide within the many pouches on the bag. This thing holds tons of gear.

Best Camera Bag I Have Owned

I bought my Slinger in 2004 after having gone 100% digital. The bag holds all of my gear including the camera body, 3 lenses and an external flash. During my "film" days I had three bodies for three different types of film plus all of my accessories. At that time I used a Tamrac backpack to hold all of the gear; it now gathers dust in my closet. We gave our son a Slinger a few years ago for his birthday; it is the only bag he uses. The bag has worn very well; still looks new!

Good Value

I bought this primarily for everyday use - for when I want to carry all my gear with me, which is pretty much always. I think the bag has much more useful storage space than other bags of similar size, and I think it's a great value for the money. It seems durable and well-made. I actually like the strap design; I find it comfortable and I like how it holds the bag in place behind my back, so it's not always sliding around to my front side as other bags tend to do. I also found that if you leave the strap attached at the lower attachment ring (the way it came when I opened it), then yes, the bag does have a tendency to tip forward when you pick it up...not good. However, if you reattach the strap to the top ring, it is much better balanced and will stay upright when you lift it. What I have in the bag now: a Nikon d50 w/ 18-55 lens attached, an extra lens (which is in a VERY bulky padded lens case), a holga, some film, a shoe flash, a mini soft box, and numerous small accessories such as filters, lens/body caps, tripod release plates, etc. I could easily add another lens, a battery grip on my camera, another flash, more film, more filters, etc. Bottom line: there is a TON of room in this bag... However, the down side to that is that the bag is pretty bulky. It's definitely a little bigger than I expected. I think some overall, outside dimensions would be a helpful addition to the product description, as opposed to just having the inside dimension of the main compartment. Overall, I'm very happy with this bag. I can't imagine getting this much storage space for this little money anywhere else.

Looked to much like a lunch box

This bag was WAY to big to take on the vacation and try to get threw the all the people in the airports. I needed a narrow bag and I found it a Domke bag.

Pretty Good, Affordable Bag

It's not a bad bag for the money. I like all the pockets and dividers, but someone needs to come up with a detachable, more comfortable, reversible strap. You can really only wear this one way, and if you're in a hurry to sling it on your shoulder and go, you may lose the contents when the bag tilts forward. The strap design is very awkward.

Roomy Camera Bag

This is a pretty decent bag with a lot of pockets. I just carried it on a trip including my camera/lens, an additional telephoto, flash unit, filter pack and even a palmcorder. I just wish they'd design the shoulder strap better. You pretty much have to wear it one way to keep the bag from tilting forward while you walk. It also has no straps to attach your tripod to the outside of the bag.

Nicely made, nice size.

Good for carrying a large camera with room for extra film, lenses, etc., has adequate protection and a waist belt as well. Compact so not a PITA to carry around. Sort of has the shape of a bowling ball bag, can also be carried by the handle at top. Best of all price is quite reasonable.

Good for the price

This bag is pretty good for the price. Would be better at around $35-40. I tend to carry only one SLR body with lens attached (right now a D90 with 18-200 VR or D40 with 18-200 VR), a fast lens (35mm f2 or 50mm f1.4), and maybe a flash (SB-800 or SB-400). I will note that I can fit a Nikon F4 (with grip) face down in this bag, with a zoom lens attached (such as 35-70mm f2.8. I can then also carry 1-2 primes and another small zoom (such as Nikon 80-200 f4.5-5.6 The good: Durable nylon holds up well, much bigger than it looks (front double pocket is nice, put a big flash like the SB-800 in the zipper section. Easy access if you leave the flap unbuckled and just pull it up to reach in to the bag. It's also very nice to have water bottle holders. You get lots of dividers. So of these will probably need to be removed unless you use a rangefinder or an SLR with a bunch of small primes...but it's always good to have too many dividers. Since I normally carry my camera strap across my chest in the opposite direction, the sitting position of the Slinger works out pretty well. Due to the good amount of storage, this bag does work well with a film system (plenty of places to by 35mm canisters). The bad: The biggest problem for me is the Slinger strap. I do like to wear the bag strap across my cheat, but the design makes it awkward to wear the bag on your right side instead of left. This is good as it keeps the bag a bit behind you on the left side, but if your shoulder gets tired you can't switch. Also, the strap is not removable, which is no good if you want to use a more heavily padded strap. On the Slinger, you could add a strap pad as one side of the strap does un-buckle. However, you can wear the Slinger over the shoulder like a normal shoulder bag without too much trouble (easier again on the left side). Also, the three-clip fasteners for the top are overkill. I never buckled the sides as its' too difficult to get it open quickly. These just end up in the way. And it looks like a camera bag, which isn't great for my tastes. The Slinger accessory attachment system is also awkward, but if you need to carry that much gear just get a bigger bag. I also have a Lowepro Rezo 170 which is about the same size. The Slinger has much more storage space, easier access (front pocket on the Rezo is worthless), and won't fall over if you set it down. It's also a bit less bulky. The Rezo does have an AW cover, but I find myself pretty much never using this feature. Since both look like camera bags, I would prefer the Slinger. If you want a small bag at a decent price, this works pretty well. I am looking into Domke to be a bit more discrete.

Slick, light, and functional

Everything about this bag is great except that the attachment points of the strap allow it to hang sideways very easily, which means you have to be very careful to keep all of the zippers and flaps tightly closed.

Great little bag

Great bag to shoot weddings and receptions. The bag is not very big but that is a good thing. It forces me to take only what I will actually use. I keep other gear in a larger bag but this bag is comfortable and keeps what I need within easy reach. My back doesn't hurt as much.

A really nice bag. Very well designed, just too small for my Mamiya 645, three lenses, and Metz flash.

This functional bag is a good value

Used with Nikon D70,18-79mm Nikkor, 80-400mm VR Zoom Nikkor, 14-24 Nikkor, 100mm Tokina macro, SB600 flash. All fit comfortably with room to spare. Great pocket distribution for cards, batteries, filters, and gizmos. Handy mesh pockets and useful clip loops (for carrying water bottle on clip). Rear pocket useful for plastic bags - rain/dust protection. Small front zipped pocket great for camera & flash manual & note pad. Shoulder strap could use thicker padding and more padding down strap onto body. I supplement with a Dompke Pad. Plastic on belt clip feels brittle and less secure than on long-used Tamrac bag that has same feature. Wish that top opened away from body rather than toward body for access ease. Have previously owned standard Slinger that was great for travel with fewer lenses. Only complaint with that bag was the strap fabric shredding from wear and the strap clip coming loose at unexpected times. Hopefully, these won't happen with Pro model.

Best I've Found - So Far

The Pro Slinger comes pretty close to being the best bag I've found for lugging all my stuff into the field. I've tried many other bags and I keep sticking with the Pro Slinger. Within the bag I carry a Nikon D200 with attached MD200 vertical-grip accessory. Also, I usually attach an 18-to-200 mm zoom lens to the camera. Additionally, I tote a 70-to-300mm zoom, a 12-to-24mm zoom, an SB800 flash, and various filters, batteries, cords, cleaning cloths, and instruction booklets. I've hiked all over the world using the ProSlinger and, except for the fact that the shoulder strap has a tendency to slip off of one's shoulder as one goes bounding along the trail, it performs well.

The use it bag

Of the five methods I have of carying equipment to the field I like and use this one. It holds most of the equipment I will use on a shoot. it is easy to sling to my front to remove/return an item and when finished sling it on my side or back to continue shooting. With all the equipment I carry it looses its shape a little, pooching out the sides. Therefore I am still looking for something a little sturdier that will hold all I carry and that works as well as the Slinger.

Excellent bag

Excellent bag, compact yet has a great capacity. Used this bag on a 3 week international trip that involved, planes, trains and automobiles. I used it both in cities and remote rugged terrain I carried the Canon EOS 5D with external grip and a 24-70 2.8 lens attached (hood reversed). In addition, it had room for a 70-200 2.8 IS lens, 580 EX, Wolverine ESP 100 GB, various chargers, extra batteries, flash cards with holder, manuals, and various usb and audio cables. This is all in a compact bag. I took this bag for hikes, off roading in open jeeps, where it was exposed to lots of vibration and dust. Inspite of all this my equipment had not a scratch on it. For travel on airlines, I put this loaded bag into a slightly larger rolling back pack. This is possible because the pro slinger is relatively compact. This took the load of my shoulder while walking in airports and made it look less conspicous. This set up fitted easily into an overhead bin. Highly recommended.
