I have owned this knife for 20 plus years. It is my EDC knife! I have tried a few other but only for a couple days at most. Mine is worn in and used as a tool for my trade. I swear by this knife and brag to my coworkers constantly. I have even bought a few for them and family over the years. I wish I could up load a picture of how much abuse it has taken an endured. I will tell you the blade has some scratches and is a little loose. The aluminum is gouged scared and chipped. I would not trade it for any other knife.

Security

This knife fits a pretty specific niche for me; large inexpensive folder. I carried a similar size Applegate folder in the military, and retired it when I came home. I've have this knife for a little over two years and haven't had any issues with the blade or mechanism. It's easy to sharpen, stays locked, and is sufficiently grippy to prevent throwing it when I deploy the blade. I really only have one significant issue with the design, and that is the lack of an option to switch the clip for left hand carry. We lefties are a minority, but I'm sure it wouldn't drive up the cost to produce this knife by much at all to drill three more screw holes in the handle.

This is a great knife, I have had mine for years and it does whatever I ask of it.. The bad reviews I read were from people that know nothing about knives. One was wearing the knife outside his pocket and complained about it opening while he was walking. The complaint about the blade being loose. There are two fasteners on each side of the frame and you can tighten them. Learn to use tools and you should be fine. I tighten mine often.Love this knife.

Former military

This is without a doubt my favorite knife I have ever owned, and I have owned /used a LOT of knives in my day. I've had mine for about 7 or 8 years, and abused it almost every day. It's been clipped on my vest, pants, or belt and never failed me. Mine has been dropped, thrown, used as an axe, a screwdriver, and has been RUN OVER BY A TANK more than once. Gets dirty and still opens/closes smoothly. The only reason I'm even on this website right now is because I want a second one. My first one has sentimental value and I want to retire it and not risk losing it.

Firefighter

In the 12 years I've been a firefighter, I've been through a few knives until I got the ICON. I had it and loved it for 6 years. It was a TOUGH WORKHORSE. I used (and sometimes abused) it almost every shift. It took everything I put it through. Unfortunately, I lost it last week. I've come to trust and rely on it so much, I'm going to buy it again.

Great utility knife and still my favorite EDC. I'm on my third one! Well, only because I tend to keep losing them since I use them so much! I even have a backup Icon ready to go. I swear by the versatility of these. They are light yet tough, have and excellent clip, and you can also even use the back end as a kubaton, or to shatter glass if needed. I've even convinced my brother who is an avid knife collector, and now he carries one everyday. I'm always on the lookout for these at pawn shops or used knife dealers.

Absolutely solid knife. It feels like a fixed blade, the blade lock is so strong. Never falters, never locks up and handles anything you throw at it. Solid piece of equipment.

Knife Collector

I've had this knife for about a year and a half now and it's still my favorite. I've sharpened it once and it's kept it's edge through a lot. Overall great feel, look, and function.

Best knife I've ever owned

Okay, I don't know what is wrong with the people who wrote bad reviews. They don't know what they are saying. This knife is so tough!!! It's my favorite knife I own, which is saying a lot seeing how I collect knives as a hobby and have at least 30. It's extremely sturdy and has a great clip and long-lasting, razor-sharp edge. I have dropped, run over, left in the rain, and throw it and it is still in great condition. If you looking for a tough, quality knife this is the one to buy.

Firefighter

Great all-around pocket knife. Strong clip, decent fit and finish. Very intimidating, great for self defense. Had a would-be mugger literally run away after brandishing it. Holds an edge great, although I did have to sharpen it to a razor edge OOB. Only complaint is that the blade has a little to much play front to back.

So far so good

I had my icon for 3 years now. It is a good knife for outdoor use. I save my more expensive knives for the finer things, But I am pretty hard on my Icon and it never fails to make the cut. Day hiking, yard work, or being my bus stop buddy at night. this knife is a good value. My only complaints are the serrations, they are cool if you are 14. Gerber get back to made in the USA, list the blade material, and make more fine edge products... I have to respect my Gerber it is a tough knife.

Longest knife I've owned with hard use. I've been using it as a can opener for almost 10 years... its has bested every can opener my wife bought in the last 10 years.

The Gerber ICON Tactical Serrated Tanto Knife has a partially serrated tanto style stainless steel blade. The knife is opened with ambidextrous thumb studs and held open with a liner lock. The handle is made of aluminum and has a textured inlay. This knife is on the large side with a blade measuring over 4" and an overall open length of just less than 10".
