I received this knife in a gift exchange at my work. I am part of a state government group that responds to chemical spills and other environmental hazards. We work in the outdoors so having a good knife is an absolute necessity. This Gerber has become my go to work knife. It is sturdy, takes a edge quickly and holds it well. Thanks for a fine product.

I have only bought 1 Freeman. I have had this blade for a lot of years. I think the reason for the broken blades, I read about in some of the reviews, is from trying to use it as a screwdriver or pry bar. I have seen blades break many times from them not being use for its intended purpose (that will happen with any knife, make or model). When you use a knife to cut things, it will get dull. That's a given with ANY knife. My Freeman holds its edge very well. When someone asks to borrow my knife, I always ask what it is they will be doing with it. To many knives have been broken by people not using them properly. My Freeman is built very solid and has always been reliable. I use it every day. The sheath, however, is not wear resistant. My sheath is completely worn out. To me, this is normal. I carry mine in the vertical position on my right side. Very easy to get to quickly, and it's out of my way. I would very highly recommend this knife to anyone (who knows how to use one, lol).

This is my 3rd in 5 yrs. The most recent only lasted a few months when the blade just snapped in half. I love the knife because it was heavy and very strong. Guess my last knife blade was from a bad batch. Going to try another company now, 3 strikes.

I picked up this knife for a shop over 5 yeara ago, still carry it to this day. If you wear jeans with the little pocket above your bigger right front pocket, this knife fits perfectly in there so toss out whatever belt case Gerber gives you for this knife and keep it in that pocket. I have worn holes in my pants from keeping this knife in that spot on a daily basis! The knife is strong, well balanced, feels great in the hand. I've had some blade wiggle but it's a simple retightening of a bolt. I've worn off the rubber from the grip and I know if I ever get another one of these knives (which I will) I'm going to put my worn grip on the new one! Only downside if that little bolt that fixes the wiggle, it strips really easy. If they used better metal or a different head like a robinson or something, it wouldnt strip as easy. Ive used and abused this knife, I use it camping, hunting, general work, no problems. Holds an edge really well, easy to sharpen.

Got this in Montana, Libby, when I was on a fire and needed something I could hammer. That was 2 years ago. Still my go to, I carry it in my 511 cargos, I can see some of the concerns above but I buy in person not online for my EDC stuff so the ratings they made are not telling the real story of this knife. Hold it before you buy it I'd say.

Not bad, I wish it kept its edge longer, comes very sharp from the factory. It's a strong knife whose butt can be used for pounding. The only problem i have is it needs a star nut wrench to tighten the blade and handle sides if they come loose. I do not possess this wrench. I contacted Gerber.

I own only Gerber knives approximately 25-30. I have the say Gerber Freeman Guide Folder is my new favorite. I will be buying at least 3 more for my son and sons in law. It just have a great feel and its very clear the craftsmanship is far and above other knives at its price point. its a must have knife.

This the muscular big brother to my other "pocket" knife, the Metolius Pocket Folder. Where the Metolius Pocket Folder is thin and elegant, this is thick and beefy - it fills my hand with a hefty solid grip. It is super smooth and easy to open and close one handed. It CAN be pocketed, but is best on my belt in it's sheath for easier access.
