Gerber Edge Tachide Utility Knife, Black Rubber Handle

I have had nothing but trouble with this knife. I am a farmer and use these style of knives daily for most of the day feeding cows. The blades will not stay in no matter what the brand of blades I have tried to use. Also it locks so tightly when it is unfolded that I have to use pliers to unlock the knife to fold it back In. I have never had such a useless knife. I tried reaching out to gerber and they told me I could enter a warranty claim, but would not give me my money back. I don't want to keep a knife that I I have had such a bad experience with so I guess I'll throw it in the trash. Horrible product! Period

I bought this specifically because I have a very old one of these that I love, and I'm finding the same issue as everyone else that the locking mechanism releases the blade while cutting cardboard--with Dewalt "Heavy Duty Utility Blades" refills. Lets talk about refills. 1) Why doesn't Gerber sell branded refills that fit correctly? 2) What brand and product description of refills work for the people who post good reviews here?

I've had mine since 2007. I use it for box cutter it does the job I've bought a dew more over the years for back ups and if family needs one they like it too. I hope they don't stop making them. There a great little knife to have. Love that I can change the blade out when it gets dull.

I had my knife for years and don't have a problem with the knife. The knife is useful and handy when I have to cut boxes for work.

This is a good little knife. I am unsure what everyone else is doing wrong to warrant the 1-Star reviews. Probably not the kind of humans that should be near sharp objects. I bought these knives for my store and we use 3 of them every-day. We mainly use them to open shipping cartons and then cut the cartons up into small pieces for disposal in our recycling bin. The cartons are usually double or triple corrugated international-grade heavy-duty cardboard. The blade-lock does not release when cutting like some users claim. In fact is is usually a 2-handed operation to release the frame-lock and close the blade. The factory blade was thicker than a standard 2-notch utility knife blade, perhaps twice as thick for some reason. Standard 2-notch (SK-2?) utility blades fit just fine once you wear out the original one supplied with the knife. Handle has a nice feel and a good grip if you a right-handed, however the pocket clip would make grip a bit ordinary if you were a south-paw. Is this the best box knife I have ever used? No, but it is still a good knife and a good price.

I find this knife very useful. Im sorry other people have had some hassle with it. Its the blade I go to for all my daily cutting. This, a suspension nxt and a keynote are on me all tje time.

As others have stated the blade lock releases the blade when cutting. So as long as you don't cut anything its a great knife. They sent me a replacement that is exactly like the original. DO NOT PURCHASE!!

The blade lock mechanism doesn't hold no matter what you cut. Which is sad because the material the knife is made of is high grade. I also don't like the sharp edging of the blade holder, it's cut straight square, not rounded, so it's possible to actually cut yourself on the blade holder. Just bad product.

Absolutely the most disappointing and useless item I have ever bought with the Gerber name on it. Locking mechanism does not retain the blade at all when cutting through cardboard.

Impossible to open one handed. Thumb stud is too close to the pivot point of the blade. Thumb stud is sharper than the blade!

I got the blade cutter and I have to say I am not impressed with its performance. The blade sits loosely replaced the blade with a new one and keeps falling off. Installed the original blade has a lot of wiggle play and blade comes off when in use and not. Need a replacement.
