A professional-grade light modifier, the Glow 28" Silver Beauty Dish for Bowens Mount is renowned for producing striking portraiture and fashion photography. Its unique diffusion properties are the result of a double parabolic reflector system, creating a blend of direct flash and softbox effects. This results in a wrap-around look similar to a softbox, but with enhanced contrast and a more dramatic, directed beam.The silver finish of this beauty dish amplifies output, enhances contrast, and brings out intricate details of your subject. It's compatible with most studio flash brands and monolights, attaching via speedrings that are sold separately. The 28" Silver variant is ideal for everything from head and shoulder portraits to full-figure studies, even in tight spaces where softboxes and umbrellas may not be suitable.The design of the beauty dish includes a small opaque reflective cover suspended over the light source, preventing direct light from hitting the subject. The light bounces off this small interior disk and floods the larger bowl of the beauty dish, resulting in a softer light cast than a standard reflector and significantly less harsh than a speedlight.The position of the small center reflector cap can be adjusted to control the spread to the large bowl and accommodate tall or high wattage modeling lights. Included with the beauty dish is a diffusion fabric panel, or "sock," which fits snugly over the rim of the dish, softening the focused light ring, reducing contrast, and softening shadow edges.Photographers often use the Glow Beauty Dish, ranging from 17" to 22", with monolights, flash heads, and speedlights for flattering people shots. It's particularly effective for sculpting facial features, creating beautiful shadows, and producing captivating catch lights. Both glamour and sports photographers use all sizes of the Glow Beauty Dish to enhance curves, muscles, and texture with crisp lighting.The larger 28" diameter model can produce a beam with more 'reach', scattering more focused light to treat larger subjects and areas. When used in a vertical tower array of 2 or more, the beauty dish accentuates a model's full figure. The Glow Beauty Dish comes with two interior coating options. The silver finish delivers higher output, creates more contrast, and brings out more detail than its white counterpart, which minimizes hot spots, smoothes skin tone, and reveals less texture. An optional Glow honeycomb grid can be added to gain more control of the light source's beam and feather the hard light for an attractive shadow. The varying degrees of the grid can range from a broad 40-degree soft pool of light with little spill, to a narrow 20-degree spotlight glow with defined shadow borders, virtually eliminating spill from the rest of the body and the background. This strong directionality can be used to add high key depth for fashion images, and emphasize the model's facial structure as well as the eyes, lips, nose, and chin. The 30-degree version can achieve both effects of the 20-degree and 40-degree, but with less light control.

Beautiful Light

I'm usually a big fan of the GLOW line of products; however, the way the adaptor just slides into 3 slots on the back with only one screw (which was missing from both shipments and each piece was shipped seperatly) I am unable to use until I can try and find a screw that fits to hold the adaptor in. Have a feeling that even at that point it isn't going to be a tight fit and will most likely rattle. The metal is good as is the over all shape. The inner disk is only held up by tention rods and there is wobble there, could possibly pop out if bummped or if using outdoors and moving around quickly. It would be very difficault to locate one of the rods if they were to fall out while using on location.

Awesome. I wish I had purchased this a long time ago.  Nice soft light but with more definition than a softbox.  I almost use it exclusively with the soft cover, and in my product photography work I see much more texture and detail in the products.  Very, very nice.  Great quality too.

Just buy it

This beauty dish does the job. It's easy to install and works perfectly.

Does the job

Soft even light.  Can add a grid to control the spill of the light.  Can also add a diffuser to the front to make the light even softer.  I also used the Glow Arch strip softbox to fill in the shadows underneath.

Love it. Works well, A+. Thankfully they included the Elinchrom 'converter' and the sock.

Would definitely recommend!

Like the sturdiness as compared to a soft box bc of wind situation . The white plate that covers strobe has very unsteady rods that won't tighten and plate keep falling off . I had to use der clips to hold it on but that looks tacky when I remove the white cover if I need a tad more light and the clips also pop off often. A little annoying .

Could be better

Beautiful light quality.  It also is much more stable in winds than a soft box.  It is my main modifier both outdoors and in the studio.  I recommend the white interior for most portraits.

I've used several soft boxes and other modifiers but the Beauty Dish is by far my favorite.

Works absolutely fine. Good specular highlights. If I had to buy again I would get a foldable umbrella style. Annoying to pack and carry on a shoot

Become internet famous

Dish works great, but it's bent and looks like if I wanted to get a grid it won't work. The boxes were in good condition so the dish shipped out like that. It's a little disheartening but it doesn't take away from its function.

Great decision

Modifier is amazing! Just be mindful when ordering that the Bowen?s mount adapter ships separately and not together. My adapter delivered one week after the beauty dish itself. Seems like a logistics improvement needed.

OK. Was a little mis-shapen and had to bend it back to round. Also, one of the screws that held the center reflector was stripped so I had to go get all new screws. Works fine but cheaply made.

Nice, contrasty light.  Even softer with the included sock.  I'm happy I bought a grid also so I have more light control options.

Works as a beauty dish should and the price is right. Rods in the center reflector needed tightening and the sock tore at the elastic, Easy fixes.

I do prefer the Visatec Softlight beauty dish as it is much more flexible. The light output also seems better. Could be more about the Visatec moonlight bulb that the modifier though.

Excellent Product

Never used one of these before and never really cared for doing portrait work.
I picked up one because I was intrigued by the reviews.
Man did this make a portrait photog out of me when what I shoot is 99% product.

As a commercial product photog I love how easy this made portraits.

I use it with my Alien Bee 800. No complaints here.
