We shoot volume sports, and with setup and teardown sometimes multiple times a day we need light modifiers that are built like a tank. The Grand ParaBox is the TANK of light modifiers!!!!

Got the unit and tested it out int e studio with my 30" Grand Para Reflector. The light output is VERY nice. As another reviewer pointed out, it's not as exact a parabolic shape as the German brands, but it works for my purposes. My main reason for wanting it was something that was more contrasty than a softbox, but still had a nice soft falloff. I do have a few gripes about the design: 1) it would be really nice if it could attach to the reflector via a Bowens mount. That way it would save the time from undoing all of those thumb screws 2) I am going to assume that the focusing adjustment is meant to use the knob on the back and for the unit to be slid with along the teflon ring. The problem is that section of the rod isn't long enough to go between fully focused and defocused. I have a workaround by loosening the inner rod and sliding that. I would say it would be better if it just used the inner longer rod and had a means to adjust the tension of the teflon ring from the front or back. Despite those issues, the light produced is really nice and i'm happy with the purchase.

Bought it with the focus rod to use instead of broncolor 88. It isn't the same. The deep throat is wider then the broncolor. Saying that, it's still an awesome modifier. Just not an exact shape to match the lighting. Will try a 63 next. They're shaped different.

I bought this softbox in hope that it can be the Broncolor Para series cheaper alternative with full 24 sides, as Mark (the other reviewer) suggested (I believe it might be at a much bigger size, but not quite at this size). The light quality produced this parabolic softbox is very nice. At fully spotted setting, it does indeed produce collimated light, with sculpted, high contrast look, minimal hot spot, etc. However, with my extensive testing, as soon as the light is moved about a quarter way out to fully flooded, the outer shape is not quite "parabolic." As a result, light got scattered, no longer collimated. This still provides a softer look, but the ring light effect (darker core with much brighter rim) cannot be achieved. Most of the light patterns were muddy outside of the fully spotted (or close to it) The light I was using was the Xplor 600 Pro with a special mounting adapter to leave the bulb as much exposed and protruded as possible. I definitely can recommend this as a good softbox in general. But as a Para series alternative, it falls short at this size.

I have written a review on my blog which is WAY TOO long to post here. But as a full time working pro who has rented and used the wonderful Bron Para line including the 88 and 177, this presents a much better value for me to own. http://www.markkitaoka.com/latest-news/glow-grand-parabox-pro-softbox-70-glow-grand-parabox-zoom-in-bounce-rod/

The tank of modifiers
By BRAD S.
We shoot volume sports, and with setup and teardown sometimes multiple times a day we need light modifiers that are built like a tank. The Grand ParaBox is the TANK of light modifiers!!!!
Let the Glow Grand ParaBox Zoom-In Bounce Rod elevate your photography and filming experiences. As an integral part of the Glow Grand Para Box system, this bounce rod revolutionizes the way you control and manipulate light. It ingeniously reverses the position of the flash to fill the interior of the parabolic bowl of the Grand Para Box, transforming it into a super-reflector. With the power of focused beams, it amplifies the output, becoming a custom illuminator for your photographic needs.
The adjustable length of the rod allows for precise control of the light source's position inside the Para Box. This feature enables you to use it as a focusable reflector softbox, producing a concentrated beam of light that can be positioned to create a broad spread of light or any effect in between. By sliding the rod along the axis through the Para Box, you can explore a range of user-controlled lighting possibilities, each perfectly modified by the focus of illumination.
The Glow Grand ParaBox Zoom-In Bounce Rod offers sharply focused light for harder, defined shadows, more highlights, and higher contrast. Alternatively, it can provide unfocused light for a softer, broader wash of spread, and much softer contrast and shadows. This versatility makes it an invaluable tool for photographers and filmmakers looking to achieve a variety of lighting effects.
The rod system plate replaces the 144mm mount adapter ring on the small rear opening of the Para Box. The mount adapter then moves to fit on the flashhead cage, acting as the mate for the monolight or strobe head. The 144mm adapter rings are compatible with a variety of strobe brands, making this bounce rod a versatile addition to almost any existing flash setup using the appropriate adapter.
Safety is a priority with the Glow Grand ParaBox Zoom-In Bounce Rod. It features a sliding balance pole to counteract imbalance, and the position of the pole aids in assuring the stability of the Grand Para Box and the Zoom-In Bounce Rod assembly. Industry-standard 5/8" studs cap the light mount end of the rods, and two closed rings are located on the other end of the rods to hook counterweight sandbags, ensuring the structure remains confidently safe.
The Glow Grand ParaBox Zoom-In Bounce Rod is the perfect tool for mastering all location situations where quality counts. It imitates natural sunlight, optimizing the highlight/shadow ratio with a concentrated focus of illumination from the special bowl reflector, reverse umbrella design. Whether you're shooting full-length figures, fashion, group shots, celebrity, lifestyle, or commercial assignments, this bounce rod is your ideal companion, combining the strength of a key light while acting as an excellent reflector. It blends perfectly with additional fill soft lights, providing rich, even light, full of detail and realistic tactile quality, unique to this modifier design form factor.
