CHERYL C : How is the light from a parabolic umbrella different from a regular umbrella?BILL N : This shape is more efficient at feathering light.
The important point of the physics of photographically regarding parabolas is they have a focal point. Place light aimed at the focal point and it bounces off the entire umbrella surface at different angles, but when it leaves the umbrella, all the rays are parallel. Enter an answer to this question.LAUREN H : Parabolic umbrellas are light modifiers. They can be white or silver. So if you are using a flash depending on which type of umbrella you are using your light on your subject can be very differentThomas P : Quite a few feel that the light is more focused or directional. It may be simply explained as the light rays emerging in parallel as opposed to the rays diverging, or spreading as with a normal, more shallow umbrella. For me, I like very much the light effects I get with two sixty inch Glow umbrellas, each at a 45 degree angle to subject. I use fairly low power and shoot through the umbrellas. The results are a very diffused fill light that looks very natural. Almost no shadowing on the face and very vibrant clothing. I am repeatedly complemented. The sixty inchers are easy to setup, take down, and carry. They have been a wonderful investment.

The point being that light goes in and is reflected back out at wider angles for larger diameters. A 60-inch umbrella is my favorite because it diffuses the light quite nicely (soft light). They do take up a lot of room, but when I use two together, one left and one right at 45 degree angles to subject, the portraits are quite nice. I use them as shoot through, with low power strobe setting, ISO 800, and at 1/125, f5.6, to get vibrant clothing and nice skin tones with greatly minimized shadows under the eyes. Smaller sizes don't smooth out the light so well, but are nice for fill light rather than main. Mostly my subjects are small group, couples, and some individuals for informal portraits.

it is a translucent umbrella. don't print a color logo on it.
I've never seen another umbrella with logo printed on them. It won't affect color much but knowing it is there and some light is passing through it makes me wanna buy something else instead.

No better ROI as far as light modifiers go.
For $15 you'd have to be crazy not to have this in your lighting kit. Super simple, setup doesn't get any easier than this. Shoot through the white umbrella for a nice soft light. If you need more punch put the black cover over the umbrella and shoot into the slightly diffused silver and adjust distance accordingly. Inexpensive, lightweight, compact, functional.

60 inch umbrella, Can't wait to use for next studio session
I do a lot of in home sessions and all my gear has to be able to save space. I'm excited to be able to use this umbrella- When I get to photograph newborn, I like to be able to have the white umbrella to soften the light on the baby, I have others but just don't feel that it is an even cast. This should really do the trick!

Great umbrella
Great umbrella for the price. The light diffuses well. It collapses and goes up easily. The only small problem I have is that the pole dents if mounted a bit tighter than just snugly.

Does great - Exactly what I'd expect
For an Umbrella it does exactly what it is designed to do. Hold out the Rai- I mean, reflect light. Setup with my lighting system works as intended, and I have no complaints.

Fantastic umbrella and great quality, inexpensive light source for small groups!
It really can't get much better. It's an umbrella--it's solidly built, produces a great quality of light, and it's only $15 for 40", which is a substantial size! On top of all this, it's multi-dimensional in the fact that you can either use it as a bounce or shoot-through style! The removable black/silver backing comes off easily. If I had to pick on anything I think they could choose a better attachment method for the backing, like a velcro fastening system instead of unlatching the metal attachments on the tips of the umbrella, but it's rather easy and quick. It would be quicker to rip it off if it was fastened by velcro, but that's being very picky. Listen, it's only $15, and it's solid materials with a nice case! Get two--I did!!!

Fantastic product and addiction to my OCF set up.

Shoot through or reflector is a nice option. Taking care when removing and installing the black/silver cover should ensure a relatively long life. I am happy with this purchase.
