When the device was supported in the Apple App Store this was a GREAT TOOL! I used it to backup pictures while out in the field and loved it back in the day. However, and why it has 1 star now, the GnarBox apps have been removed from the App Store.

A well-designed a battery-powered hard drive and card reader would be a godsend to mobile pros like me, but the GNARBOX turns out to be a touchy, fussy, glitchy combination of hardware and software that doesn’t do anything particularly well. The GNARBOX wireless network is too shaky to be relied upon for critical commercial work - Disconnects, while intermitten, don’t inspire confidence. Loads, writes, and reads are agonizingly slow. The convenience of working in the field without a laptop is essentially wiped out with the frustration of waiting and wondering if the GNARBOX is done doing its job. The interface forces unconventional structure on the user who has better things to do than learn to work with a clumsy new file system. Among the things that are hard or impossible to do: - Drag and drop file management - Establishing file size of edited files - Renaming files - Re-sorting/re-ordering files to suit user needs/preferences - Changing thumbnail image size Meanwhile, the built-in RAW editor is actually pretty good, if limited, and in spite of its many shortcomings, the GNARBOX gives me capabilities and in-field resources that have made it an essential, if frustrating tool. I purchased the smaller (128 Gig) version to test the utility of the product, expecting I would consider the upcoming Version 2 if my test was satisfactory. I am also hoping that the software limitations will be overcome with a promised major update. I can’t recommend that others endure what I have, and instead suggest that others wait for the new versions of the hardware and software - And a couple months' worth of positive reviews.

This is not an easy device. needs to be connected to a phone to operate any kind of functionality. I need something Quick and easy and less complicated as I will be travelling a lot. I need something with only coping capability. This is more advanced and expensive.

Sorry Gnarbox it pains me to write this but... I would prefer it if I could Import my RAW files directly into Lightroom Mobile on my iPad Pro from Gnarbox. At the moment this is impossible to do. I do not want to use their on board photo editing program. Nowhere in the product description does it say that files can not be imported from the Gnarbox to Lightroom. I think that's an oversight. They should be clear about what this device can and can not do. I do believe it's fantastic if you want to edit video on the go or use their photo editing program to edit photos on the go. I do travel a good bit with photography in mind . So I was looking at this device to allow me to leave my laptop behind and use only my iPad Pro. Sadly this is not the case. Also when I emailed them for some questions/answers, my email was never answered. So lack of customer support should be noted as well. I've never written a negative review before but this product did not meet my needs and it was never described as such. I have not returned this device, nor do I plan to because I feel that maybe in time their developers will come up with an update that will enable direct import of raw files into the Adobe Lightroom Mobile for use with an iPad Pro.

I've been really impressed with the GNARBOX's durable construction and functionality. I bought the GNARBOX to back up, edit, and share my photos while hiking or otherwise traveling without my laptop, and so far, it has lived up to the company's claims. After a day of shooting, I pop in my card and back it up to the GNARBOX using the iPhone app, from which I can also edit and share my photos. Both the box and the app have received a few updates already in the short time I've owned it, which gives me hope that the company will stay on the ball in keeping the tech relevant without requiring everyone to buy new hardware too soon.

As I said in the title, I need just one word to review the Gnarbox: GREAT! Now I have the ability to download my photos "on the go" without the need of a laptop. I'm able to review all my files using my phone and at the end of my day or (better) at the end of my trip, when I get back home, I download all my file on my computer. I travel lighter, no headaches and as I already said: Great! Try it and you will found out. Note: I didn't get sponsored by Gnarbox, I'm just an happy customer!
