Purchased about a month ago thought it had touch screen it doesn't, the buttons are confusing and y tube videos aren't great but maybe it's from the generation I'm in. Anyway I suspect enough trial and error should get me there have to ask others for help who gave it as well and again not clear as they have the touch screen. Example did 142 mile bike ride got it downloaded and then I saved it but I can't figure out how to review the information, and it doesn't show up on my Garmin app. Hoping I'll get use to it.

I've been using Edge computers for quite some time now, starting with the Edge 800. I had always chosen computers with touchscreens because I was of course used to using smartphones. Recently, I decided to replace my aging Edge 1030 (it's been dropped once too many times) and my local bike shop had the 340, the 540, and the 840. I chose the non-touchscreen 540 because I have historically had issues where rain or sweat would mess with my screen layout (yes I know you can lock the screen, but I sometimes forget.) I am happy to report that I really like the menu navigation via buttons on the 540. It does take some getting used to and it's not intuitive (subtract one star here), but once I got the hang of it, I decided it was a good interface.

So happy I got the 540! Very easy to use! Being an older genX, it only took a few days to get the hang of using the app (on my iPhone) and the 540 to find routes. I only gave a 4 star because I'm not able to use my Apple Watch for my heart rate. Other than that, love the 540

I bought the 540 non solar to replace my Edge 520 not because of a lack of ride metrics but rather, the battery life. With Rally pedals, RTL515, hr, it put too much demand on it and battery life was basically 1 ride. Edge 540 battery is quite strong and addresses the 520 shortcoming well. Besides that, the climb pro is pretty cool and the suggested workouts and other performance bits are pretty good as well. User teething issues were the button sequence isn't identical to 520 and it takes some practice to nail the sequence. Once learned, you're good. Lastly if you're already a Garmin user, the set up could not have been easier.

Love it, very easy to pair with the sensors and easy to operate. Battery last a very long time. If you are looking to know your riding metrics and keep up with your best performance this is the ideal tool.

I got tired of replacing my 530 edge from crashes or falling from technical climbs. The attachment back piece kept breaking off the casing. Finally, ordered the 540! You can replace the back attachment instead of the whole unit. I really like the bigger screen, performance feature data, color screen and the ability to control my music without stopping, to dig in my pack to grab my phone!

I have had this for 2weeks. I am very pleased. There are a lot of features that was not on the 520.

Been on several rides and am very pleased with the 540. I upgraded from an Edge 520, which worked great, but the larger screen/fonts is so much easier to read. Battery life is great and so is the integration with Varia lights. Very happy with this upgrade!

I have ridden about 200 miles using the Garmin 540 and it has exceeded my expectations. The power, mileage, time and altitude functions work well. As a bonus the road hazard warnings and drink to hydrate notifications and a welcome addition. I am impressed with how this unit links up with my SRAM electronic components!

I've always thought that the most expensive meant the best. But I have found out that is not the case in cycling (especially) between bikes, equipment locations, and Bikepacking it is not cheap. With time and age you realize simple is always better than complicated and the 540 gives you everything you need and nothing you don't easy setup and navigation through the menu. I'm glad this is true to its nature and I'm looking forward to many trips with my equipment choices with no regrets.

Got the 540 for my birthday after my last Garmin eventually died - the app is awful and continuously loops on setup so its unusable.

This thing is a game changer for me in terms of amping up my ride and making it easier to evaluate my progress and have fun doing it. I love the customization options for each profile and ease of use. The display is big and easy to see while riding and changing screens on the go is cake. I use this with my Garmin connect to maximize enjoyment and utility and create challenges with other riders. Go Garmin.

With buying the Tacx Neo 2T, I needed to upgrade my computer to take advantage of all the features. I chose the 540 and am completely stoked about it!!! It took awhile to get used to the buttons but I am rockin' it now! The configurability, the color, the connectivity are all just excellent! Auto activity upload and live connection to my phone for setup options is super convenient! Great battery life and I keep the display on continuously during my 2-3 hr indoor rides! I think my only "cons" feedback would be that I sometimes press the one (or the other) of the lower buttons when trying to get a grip to press the upper left or right button. Those buttons set lap markers or pause the activity, neither of which are good things to do accidentally mid activity! I opted not to get the touchscreen + buttons version but because of the above "con" I think maybe the touchscreen feature would have been nice. Still, I really like the Edge 540!!!

I purchased it about a month ago. The mph recorded is definitely faster that what showed on my Edge 500. Plus would like cadence to show on the screed with mph and heart rate especially when I have the bike on the trainer. Overall a good purchase.

The 540 bundle was just purchased Feb 3, 2024. I was unable to get the speed sensor to connect and there is no light on in the sensor when spinning the wheel. The heart rate sensor worked for two rides and now not working. I called the help line (on a Sunday) and its only open weekdays. I tried the Chat line but after 3 attempts and getting somehow disconnected I am getting pretty upset and will try again tomorrow. Maybe a weekday will work better or I may just be better off returning the item. I don't know why I expected there to be no problems and maybe its my fault that I waited a month to report the issues. I purchased the bundle for a week long extended bike trip that starts in 3 days. I am not feeling like this item is going on the trip at this point!!. I am glad I did not purchase the watch at the same time.

I upgraded to the 540 from the 520 plus. Everything about the 540 is spot on as far as the upgrade goes. The only down point are the buttons. I found that they are a bit touchy in one regard and in the next I can't find them while having the Garmin in my hand. On the bike I use the DI2 buttons on the brake/gear levers.

Before purchasing my Edge 540, I read a number of reviews including several recommending the 840 (touch screen version) due to improved usability. For me, being in the Pacific NW means riding in the rain and at least with my iPhone rain always interferes with touch screen operation, so I opted for the dedicated buttons. As it turns out, the usability concerns were overblown and I found that getting used to the button-only UI navigation was pretty quick. I hate charging things, so I configured the unit for the most aggressive power management settings and the result is that I can go 30-40 hours of ride time between charges. The display is highly reflective and even with the backlight off, the screen is plenty visible even in cloudy riding conditions. In spite of having turned off a ton of options to save battery life, I am amazed by what it can do including graphically identifying upcoming climbs and warning of upcoming traffic concerns. For the past five years, I had been using a Lezyne Super GPS along with an ANT-based heart rate strap and separate cadence sensor. I really had no complaints other than lack of support for radar tail lights. That said, I was really surprised by the utility of the new data offered by the combination of the new 540, Garmin Connect app and my old sensors including a post ride summary highlighting hydration, a quantitative assessment of the ride effort and the recommended recover time. Very cool. So, what started out as a purchase just to get radar tail light compatibility turned out to provide a lot of really useful training insights and crazy long battery life. I would definitely recommend this unit to others.

Coming from only using my cellphone in my pocket, the Garmin edge 540 on the handlebars is life changing. So much info is available right now, without stopping. Screens/data fields can be customized which is great for personalized info on the fly. To top it off....my wife can follow along with live track and send me motivating texts.... If you know what I mean haha

Pleased with the battery life and the feature set but I definitely think they've squeezed as much as they can out of a button-based interface.

I usually am one to upgrade immediately but the 530 was just too good. However, this is defintely a more responsive unit with additonal features that I didn't think I would use, but have. It's a bit more bulky, but also feels more rugged and I hope to use this until the 550 is out!

The Edge 540 has numerous new features I did not have with my Edge 520 and the battery life is a big improvement. The unit synched immediately with all my other devices and also merged all my prior settings from the 520. Simple process and robust device

The functions of this device are not intuitive. The button sequences and uses are difficult to master and nearly impossible to do while ridding. Routing ahead of time on the Garmin Connect phone app is difficult to do. There is the ability to use another app called Trailforks that offers more functionality. It seems that for everything to work well you have to have your cell phone with you. If I am going to do that why not just mount my cell phone to the handlebars and use the apps directly?

Significant upgrade from the Edge 130 Plus I previously had. Maps are great, screen is visible in all conditions and it does everything I want in a cycling head unit. Highly recommend
