Worthy descendant of the Luna Pro

In a previous life I was an avid user of the storied Gossen Luna Pro. When determining what meter I needed now, I found the DigiSix. It is an affordable, easy to use descendant worthy of the Gossen name. I principally use the meter to take incident readings in tricky lighting situations. It does everything I want it to.

Accurate and small

Good accuracy and very compact. My primary complaint is that the mode switch is easily actuated putting you into mode select inadvertently, which you have to cycle through to get back to normal operation. Bad location for mode select. Also very overpriced.

Use this everyday and love it

This meter gives me consistent results and is easy to use. The only thing that would improve it for me would be to get rid of the alarm function. Occasionally I will accidentally set the alarm. Great meter though and simple to use. Battery lasts forever.

Small and accurate.

Small and light weight, it works well. Construction feels a little less than sturdy but I haven't had any problems with it.

Probably the best tiny pocket lightmeter

Using a number of M2 and M3 type Leicas and shooting 90% of the time Sunny 16, I wanted to buy a Gossen lightmeter compact enough to have always in pants pocket. The Digisix is so small you can carry it in any pocket however when compared to larger Gossen models it is as precise(also more precise than the meter on my M6 at low light). It's constantly "on" but since one year I did not need to change the tiny battery powering it. I think I found my ideal lightmeter to go with my film Leicas.

Gossen does it again

Film and digital photography mostly incident light measurement. Easy to use and dead nuts accurate. Gossen is great. I have 48 yr old Gossen Pilot that is within 1/2 f stop of the new one. It needs an included simple foot so that it can be used on older film cameras. The seperate foot is flimsy and expensive.

Out with the old, in with the new

After many years I thought I should replace my old Gossen light meter. I have shot 4 rolls of film with the new Gossen. Naturally it represents a great advance for me: the ease with which one learns the suitable combinations and the confidence one has in the measurement. One criticism. The instructions regarding the incident light method are poor to put it mildly. It must be a translation from another language. It confused me. Fortunately, I still had the instructions for the old Gossen and these helped to clear the matter up.

Alarm sound

This truly is a great meter. I have one criticism to make and that is the alarm sound is extremely feeble. My hearing is not the best but you almost have to hold the meter to your ear to hear it. There are no holes or vents in the casing to allow the sound to escape. I'm sure the buzzer is doing a good job, it's just that the case is almost soundproof. Fortunately, I don't need the alarm or timer so the sound defect is not a problem for me. For timed exposures I have a remote with timer, and the sound is very clearly heard from this.

I wish i had bought this meter earlier.

You have to pick the ISO and it will give you a variable Shutter speed and a constant aperture of 5.6

Big things come in small packages!

I like the analog and digital read out...I found it very easy to use. It works perfectly for my portrait photography.

Well worth the Price

I use the meter when I am not sure of the lighting, especially when it is darker than usual.

Does the job quite nicely

For those times that call for a handheld meter or incident light reading, this is a good solution. It has a few features you may not need, but it does its job very well.

About Gossen Digisix Compact Digital/Analogue Ambient Meter

Ultra-compact, and packed with features, the Digisix is an ambient light meter that does much more than just determine exposure. As an exposure meter, the Digisix is a prime example of Gossen's high precision and reliability, based on Gossen-specific calibration and German engineering.

The Digisix is small enough to sit comfortably on your camera's hot shoe (with optional shoe adapter), and sports a digital read-out and analog scale for ambient light levels that can be measured in reflective or incident mode. Digital read out in EV is easily transferred to a setting ring where all the shutter speed/f-stop combinations can be read at a glance. Digital LCD read-out and Contrast scene read-out's are in 1/3-stop increments. Meter sensitivity range is 0-18EV.

But the Digisix doesn't stop there. Not only is it an exposure meter, but it also offers a functioning clock with alarm, a timer for timing long exposures, plus a precision digital thermometer which measures temperatures and stores a high and low value.

All of this fits into an unbelievably small package (3 x 2 x 1 inch) with trendy styling, which is easy and comfortable to operate. The meter weighs approximately 1.5 oz (including battery), and comes with a carry case, strap and battery.
