Great product for storing a decade worth of old video footage. I also use G-Tech all the time on video production projects. Great storage for the price and robust reliability.

Very durable hard drive. When I have had an issue, they replace it no questions asked. Have 17 of these drives. Great support, very durable drive. We use to use all LaCie drives but their support is terrible, they had a major problem with their Chinese power supplies, had to replace 8 of them. Had two not show up on the desktop when they boot up, don't expect support from LaCie, they just don't care about their product. You're just stuck with it. LaCie is the total reason for switching to G-Tech, and we could not be more happy with reliability and support.

If you notice the reviews mentioning the very bright light on the from of the unit, they are very accurate in mentioning how incredibly bright it is. And, in how it flashes frequently when it's operating. I can deal with that though, as I keep the drive with my others on a shelf beside my desk and I don't see the light, directly. But, the drive is the noisiest drive I've ever owned. When it's reading or writing, there's a constant "scratching" and "grinding" noise that is almost louder than the keys on my keyboard as I type this. Increasingly unbearable, and I've had the drive for about 4 days now. Having unpacked it today and loaded 4TB of data onto it via ChronoSync, my office would not have been a fun place to work today had I not had music playing loud enough to drown out the drive noise. If I don't see an improvement in the next day or so, as I hope things will settle down, I'm contacting G-Tech directly and looking for some answers, or some solutions. The capacity of the drive is great for what I need it for, as an archive drive. And, it does read and write incredibly fast via Thunderbolt 2. But, I now think I won't be attempting to use it to work from on a regular basis, and only use it for regularly scheduled backups... and let it run, while I go do something else. Just waiting for the day a 6, 8, or 10TB SSD drive will be affordable...

I was very displeased with this drive and returned it due to the loud clicking and whirring, plus the incessant flashing of the “busy” light. The flashing was bad enough I had to put something in front of it to cut the brightness. I have the 10TB version of this and am extremely happy with it, but the 4TB version is a dud.

The drive repeatedly shut itself off, and my Mac said I did not eject it properly. I was unable to sustain a very long session of copying files. I tried many times, before sending it back.

Runs fast but makes more noise than my other G-Drive. The thunderbolt cable won't fit in my iMac either.

I’m new to this brand, but I have to say it is a first class piece of equipment. I shoot with a Sony A7R3 in compressed raw which produces pretty large files. I edit these raw files straight from this hard drive. I have this hard drive connected to my 2017 I-Mac 27” 5K computer and There is not the slightest bit of lag. This hard drive is very fast and worth every bit of its cost. The build quality and materials inwhich it is made with are second to none. If you are a photographer/videographer in any capacity, amateur to professional, and looking for an excellent external hard drive you can not go wrong purchasing this item.

this is my 4th G-drive (I fill up about one a year - although now with more storage hopefully I can get two years of work on this one!) I have never had a problem with any and they sit in a stack next to my computer and I can easily access any files I need. I also work directly from them to my lightroom, although this may not be recommended / : Again, never had a problem! They can be a bit noisy - that's why 4 instead of 5 stars

I know that any external hard drive can fail, but I have had good experiences so far with G drives. I own seven of them in various sizes. Up until now, I have not bought one with more than a 2 Terabyte capacity in case of failure, so this 4 Terabyte drive is an experiment. I am hoping that I won't be sorry, but just to be sure, I back up all of my most important information in two places.

We bought this to attach to a Mac Mini running as a server for some extra storage space. Easy setup and fast copy of files from old server to this. So far, we are very happy with it.

I bought this drive to replace a 3 terabyte, La Cie drive that my computer stopped recognizing. The G drive interfaces with Mac right out of the box. Read/write is fast. Only drawback is that the drive is a bit noisier then the La Cie, but not so noisy that I don't love the drive.

I have several Ext. Hard Drives, but this one is one of the BEST, yet! I use it as my system backup for my iMac & setup was without a hitch. It has an "on/off" switch, which I utilized in between backups. I would highly recommend for anyone needing a reliable backup for their system.

This 4 TB G-Drive serves as my ultimate backup drive along with a smaller 1 TB G Drive I use at the same time. This unit is fast, allows both thunderbolt and USB 3 connects and is air cooled. I could not afford a $1000 backup device. For the price this is a great product. It has enough space that it serves as the backup drive for my Lightroom photos and my daughter's lightroom photos. It will serve me for a number of years as my photography backup drive (I save all lightroom photos on two external drives and on the cloud [with Crashplan]

I have had it for couple of weeks and so far it has been great. I like the compact size for 6TB with Thunderbolt and USB3. It makes it easy to transport.
