The Giottos GB-3158 Pro Lava Tripod is made from a hard, black volcanic rock whose weight is comprised of less than 52% silica. Because of its low silica content it has low viscosity.

The lava material is melted at very high temperatures and spun and extruded into fibers that are made into lightweight tubes that withstand temperature extremes. This makes for a very rigid and lightweight tripod that is comfortable to use in any environment.
