Questions & Answers

ANTONIA Z : Will this work with a Giottos MH-6555?PAUL S : No. This is much larger than the Giottos MH-6555. Another caution: This is a really well made quick release, but it's not compatible with any other quick release system I've seen other than Giottos. The plate and base WILL NOT fit on or accept the similar-looking Benro or Manfrotto or other 3rd party QR systems.
ROBIN S : Would this work on top of a steadicam? I'm looking for a quick release system for Proam USA's Autopilot.JAMES V : Yes it would.LEANDRO R : Yes it works perfectly.JASON J : No. This will not work on a steadicam. The tension lever is not flush on a flat surface.
Charles T : Can the Locator pin be removed?FRED M : The locator pin can be easily removed by removing one screwMIKE C : Yes - it is held to the plate by a simple flat spring, and can either be removed by prying the spring out of the way, or using a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the spring completely. As the pin is pring-loaded, it will drop out of the way if you don't need it.RICK R : Yes, the locator pin is attached by a phillips-head screw. But, the pin is spring loaded and, with pressure, the pin will retract below the plate so it may not be necessary to remove the pin.RONALD C : Yes, the locator pin can be removed, but in most cases, it will not be necessary. It is on a spring and will receed when a solid camera body or something similar is attached.

Built tank tough, well designed but NOT Manfrotto compatible

I used three of these on tripods in my video business for about two years. They're extremely durable and well designed – except that they don't interchange with the Manfrotto 501, etc., or Benro quick releases. They're now serving on video rigs that don't require quick camera changes. These plates will slide in from front or back, unlike the Manfrotto design which only go in from the back. I've purchased other brands (Neewer and Andoer mostly) that do interchange with the Manfrotto design.

Great for 4x5 Field Cameras

I was looking for a quick release that would be able to support my Calumet Woodfield XM 4x5 camera and this fits the bill pretty perfectly. Before purchasing, I was concerned that the lock would hit the bottom of the camera, but it is designed to be able to rotate, so the lever is able to be adjusted on a per camera basis. The Quick Release portion works very well and the camera slides in/out of the base with ease. The only thing I did was disobey the lens arrow on the QR plate as the 4x5 has 2 tripod holes and I wanted the pin to be engaged in one of those holes. Haven't taken it into the field, but based on testing so far, this seems rock solid. I have my MH-621 mounted to a Giottos MH-1000 ball head. I will definitely be purchasing another compatible QR plate for the MH-621 that I can mount on my Bronica ETRS.

Quick change.

This is an excellent, light weight and inexpensive way to change from tripod to hand held in two seconds.

Nice standard quick release

I've standardized all of my cameras and supports using this quick release. It's solid, substantial and well made. Moving from rig to monopod to tripod to slider, and switching cameras, is quick and easy. Combination of a well designed lock mechanism and a push button failsafe gives me confidence the camera or device won'd be released from the support except when I want it to.

Great product!

I own many of this little guys, they have everything you migh need in a QRP, they're the right size, very well built and it's a must if you want to switch to different support systems while doing video.

Great!!!

I was VERY happy to find that this works nicely with the Manfrotto 357 plates and adapters. Although this is a small clamp, it's surprisingly strong. I've mounted everything from a DSLR to a Red One on this and have had no concerns at all with strength. It actually seems to be built a little better than the other brand, but is more affordable. I've mounted these to all my cameras as well as my tripods, dollys, steadicams, etc, so I can interchange any of my gear in seconds. If you only use one camera/tripod, this probably isn't useful, but if you're constantly moving your camera to different platforms, this is really priceless.

Great Quick Release

I've been using this quick release along with the giottos MH-1000 ball head for a couple of years for landscape and night shots and it does the job extremely well.

Design Flaw Makes Product Useless

The tension adjustment on the side has a design flaw. It is too big and sits below the base. This means you can't mount the plate to a large flat surface. Also, the position of the tension adjustment is too high and gets in the way of the device that is mounted.

Rock Solid performer!

I'm buying this extra plate for my backup body. This is one stout setup - holds my D700 with Battery Grip plus 80-200f/2.8D lens securely. The amount of 'slide' adjustment makes macro much easier. Very well thought out AND engineered. Took me a few tries to get accustomed to where everything is, but as with any new "toy" once you get used to it, you wonder how you ever lived without it.

Very useful,especially in poor light.

I find this unit easy to use especially when there is little light available.

Well designed, well made quick release

I use this quick release on my Canon 60D hand held rig and another on my video tripod for quick exchange. Strong, light weight, a pleasure to work with.

Decent for the price

I purchased a ball head that had this quick release attached. I shoot for real estate agents and interior designers and I have to have the freedom to move about a room quickly and freely. This QR does that while still providing a very strong mounting point. I was able to use this with several cameras, including a heavy medium format camera and my DSLR with a second QR attached to a Panography head and then to this QR. Lockup and mounting is very tight and strong. The Giottos products are great value, but I think some of the finishing touches are not well thought out. The bubble levels are very slow because they use some kind of gel instead of a liquid solution. I had to buy a second bubble level and epoxy it to the top of my Panohead in order to keep accurate levels. I would recommend this QR if you are on a budget and/or need to secure heavy attachments to your tripod. I would however encourage one to not buy it based on the built in levels.
