I don't know why I've never heard of this brand, but this Monopod is perfect! Giottos really got it right. 1. It's sturdy. Even the smallest pole that folds inside is strong and not that small. It can hold alot of weight. The largest pole is nice and thick at the top, so gripping it feels nice for panning. 2. It's the perfect weight. You want something that's light to carry everywhere, but heavy enough so that you don't get small camera vibrations from your hands. This is the perfect balance. 3. It's simple. As I was looking at other monopods, some had ball heads or a removable plate for the camera. You don't want either of those. Without a ballhead, your camera can't get unlevel when you hold the monopod level, and your camera won't move on you. A removable plate can get lost or more easily broken, or not fit tight enough after many uses. 4. It's tall. I want to be able to get high angles wherever I want. This gives you plenty of room... climb a ladder if you need to go taller. 5. The locks for the tubes are the twist kind as opposed to the snap-out kind. These won't catch on anything, including your legs. 6. It's cheap. This is amazing considering the quality of this thing. The aluminum is thick and the legs glide out like a pro monopod should. 7. Get a Velbon PH-368 tripod head to go with it. If you need to pan or tilt more easily, it's a nice addition to have, but not necessary. It's only $44. 8. I've done a lot of research on monopods, and got this one. Trust me, and just buy it for yourself.

I use this monopod for my Grandson's T-Ball game's with my Canon 40D w/Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens. It helps greatly in holding the camera with less movement, less movement means better pics.

I've only just begun using this monopod and its also my first. I'm impressed with it overall though. The height it adjusts out to is perfect for me, being i'm over 6 ft tall this was something i was looking for. The bottom clamp takes a little extra to get it to completely lock down on mine. Don't think it'll be much of problem though since i only get it to slip when i pushed down on it with some force, didn't bow though. My camera, D40x, and the lenses i have aren't a problem for this thing either. A good buy for someone without massive lenses and looking for something reasonable.

I choose this monopod because I am tall and the choices are very limited. I had this monopod for a year, and since the beginning the link between the tube and the head was loose. Why use a monopod that induce more vibration? I decided to fix it myself. I pulled the foam and I discovered only 2 screws that link the tube and the head (their axis in a line !!!). I drilled 2 more holes and added 2 more screws. Now it is very stable and usable. It is a shame that Giottos haven't put these screws themselves. It is not normal that a product needs modification before use.

Use of a monopod is highly recommended for photographers seeking value for moneyand versatility. Monopods are specially designed for photographers on the move, for all styles of photography such as fashion or sports. With a monopod you can support heavy still and video cameras, make instant changes to angle and position in restricted spaces and capture that perfect moment first time. For use in mud or snow, the specially designed rubber foot accessory gives full support by spreading the load.
Made primarily from aluminum alloy, the all-metal construction of the MM 9000 series gives a feeling of solidity and confidence. Its surfaces are carefully polished twice, so its sections lock firmly and can be released quickly. Finally, the monopod is anodised to preserve the sheen of the original aluminum, or a pure black finish. The MM 9000 series reflects the photographer's individuality; it catches the eye, and reflects its own special style.
The Giottos MM9780 is a simple, easy to set up monopod with five section leg design which features a Versatile Rubber Foot that gives firm ground support and flexibility of up to 360° of tilt. It's reversible camera platform will allow instant changing from the international standard 1/4" to a 3/8 " thread.
