Have a couple of Manfrotto tripods and ball heads. The 496RC was not able to support my D600 with 200mm lens with flash from horizontal to vertical, so I got the 498RC. Better, but still gravity creep...have to tighten all above where your target is and hope it eventually glides into the sweet spot. So, bought a Gitzo tripod at a great price and then looked at ball heads again...then off-center ball heads. Different lock up mechanism, found it used in new condition at a great price. The first time I mated both together with my camera, battery base, 200mm F/4, Nikon 900 flash with Ray Flash attached...dialed it in...and it stayed exactly where I placed it, did not waver, nothing, like it was part of the foundation of the house. OK, that to me exceeded my expectations. The off-center head gives you more POVs than a straight ball head, which gives it great versatility. Especially with macro, product, landscape and portrait, in or out of the studio, and easy to make minute adjustments. Very smooth panoramic movement and control. I did add a spirit level that sits between the head and the tripod which is more visible to me than the one embedded in the quick release. Easy to change to a different aspect quickly, and the spring-loaded tightening dial is so smooth. Great piece of gear with the right tripod. Note: Gitzo historically does not have the best system of product ID numbers, so did have trouble finding the correct part number for an extra "release plate" for the ball head, which is Gitzo G1373/14B.

This is the best tri pot head and the quickest one to setup and shoot. It takes less space than other tripod head.

The quick release would jam, it took two of us to release the arm.

This was a great purchase for me. I've needed something super strong and stable yet flexible and easy to maneuver. It's a bit heavy and expensive but worth it.

Granted this is a luxury Purchase for me along with the Gitzo GT2330EX tripod. I watched an adorama video on these two together and decided to order them both. [$] for a ball head and tripod.Plus a [$]Rebate Made it a little more affordable. This ball head does everything I need to make my actual shutter pressing enjoyable. No more struggling with knobs and angles . Totally User friendly.

Gitzo revisited the classic G1376M in a completely revisited version. Its look and the design of the high quality magnesium out shell are unchanged, but the internal components and mechanisms have been completely re engineered. The weight has been reduced by 15-17% and new Gitzo technologies have been introduced.
As one of the new range of Gitzo Off Center ball heads, thanks to its unique design, it allows unsurpassed positioning freedom by offering a range of movement impossible with conventional heads.
