Questions & Answers

DEBBIE P : Is there a special sized L-Bracket you need to buy with this? It appears the standard one I have is way too thin.ANDREW R : This head uses the Gitzo type "B" QR plate which is compatiblewith G1376M, GH3750QR, and G1576M Off-Center Ballheads, as well as the G1387B & G1385B quick release adapters. Most "L" brackets are designed for use with Arca Swiss type QR clamps.
Kim S : What l-bracket will work with this head and a canon 5d mark III?
prakruti d : hey there, i need to buy a tripod and and a ball head for food photography?? if u can suggest some? this ball head and gitzo series 3 aluminium section explorer tripod gt3340L is gud combination for food photography? i want to buy a good one..plz suggestDON B : Sorry, but I returned this item.LOUIS S : Hi, yes it would be a good combination depending on whether you want to do extreme closeups. The head is very solid and works well with the explorer tripod which has a center post that can be set horizontal. You are limited in how much you can go out horizontal by weight. Another good less expensive tripod is the Manfrotto 055 X Pro. I think you can get this in carbon fiber for less than the aluminum explorer. The alumininum manfrotto is good too. If you are looking at extreme closeups you may want to also get a focusing rail. I would recommend a different head. The manfrotto 410 Junior Geared head. It has adjustments on several axis and would be better for altering focus points wide open. I owned this head and it is excellent and solid as a rock and more versatile than the Gitzo. This head serves as a pseudo focusing rail given the different axis available. Any further help feel free to ask.EDWIN A : I use this head with an old 5 series tripod and it works great, the head is very versatile and solid as far as staying where you want it to stay. One of the things I like about this head is the fact that it does not take much room. The old head unit I had came with long arms and was not as movable as this one. I would say if you have a solid legs like 3340 then you will be fine. I am not sure what camera you are using I hope you take the camera weight in the equation. I hope this info. is helpful.

Solid lock up for any angle

Have a couple of Manfrotto tripods and ball heads. The 496RC was not able to support my D600 with 200mm lens with flash from horizontal to vertical, so I got the 498RC. Better, but still gravity creep...have to tighten all above where your target is and hope it eventually glides into the sweet spot. So, bought a Gitzo tripod at a great price and then looked at ball heads again...then off-center ball heads. Different lock up mechanism, found it used in new condition at a great price. The first time I mated both together with my camera, battery base, 200mm F/4, Nikon 900 flash with Ray Flash attached...dialed it in...and it stayed exactly where I placed it, did not waver, nothing, like it was part of the foundation of the house. OK, that to me exceeded my expectations. The off-center head gives you more POVs than a straight ball head, which gives it great versatility. Especially with macro, product, landscape and portrait, in or out of the studio, and easy to make minute adjustments. Very smooth panoramic movement and control. I did add a spirit level that sits between the head and the tripod which is more visible to me than the one embedded in the quick release. Easy to change to a different aspect quickly, and the spring-loaded tightening dial is so smooth. Great piece of gear with the right tripod. Note: Gitzo historically does not have the best system of product ID numbers, so did have trouble finding the correct part number for an extra "release plate" for the ball head, which is Gitzo G1373/14B.

The best tripod head

This is the best tri pot head and the quickest one to setup and shoot. It takes less space than other tripod head.

Quick release- not so quick

The quick release would jam, it took two of us to release the arm.

Strong and nimble

This was a great purchase for me. I've needed something super strong and stable yet flexible and easy to maneuver. It's a bit heavy and expensive but worth it.
