I use this with a small Gitzo head to stabilize longer lenses like the 80-400mm VR. The VR works great but it is still a big lens and the monopod really helps to get a much higher percentage of sharp shots, especially at the long end. I also use it with my Nikon D7000 when taking videos. Trying to handhold the D7000 with a 28-300mm lens for 20 minutes is almost impossible with out some kind of support. While a tripod works great, this monopod is perfect for those times you want to travel light or are in crowded areas. It also comes in handy in the woods here as a walking stick. I looked at Carbon Fiber, but the cost was high for only a few less ounces. The newer aluminum models are only a little over a pound. The G lock makes this fast to set up and knock down.

Gitzo introduces a completely new aluminum monopod that feature a new aluminum 1,2 mm tube with ALR. The new tube is the best compromise between lightweight and torsion rigidity, and stands in the market as a top quality and performance monopod against all other competitors the feature a lightweight but less stable 0,8 1 mm aluminum tube. For the first time Gitzo offers a aluminum monopod that features ALR system like 6x and basalt monopods for faster operation and accurate height adjusting.
