Daniel B : Is a short column available for this tripod?
RICH R : What is the warranty on this product?LAURIE J : I am so sorry, I don't know. I do love my tripod.ANDREW R : Not specified in the manufacturer supplied sales materials, however I think the baseline is a one year limited warranty.
Shopper : Is this strong enough to support a Nikon D7000 mounted with a Nikkor 500 mm f/4 lens?TOM F : Yes, it is. I use a 80-400 mm lens with a Nikon D 300 and have no problems in regards to stability.MICHAEL G : Well, it will usually be fine with my Canon 5D MkII and the Tamron 400/4 even with 1.4 TC. tThere may be a small amount of motion on 10X Live view. Gitzo says this is not the best choice for this FL but it is most often OK.BRIAN B : I have a Nikon D300 with the battery pack and a 70 to 300mm lens and have no problem with supporting the weight. I finally broke down and bought it

I use the tripod for outdoor macro, wildlife, and landscape photography. Also, the four leg sections close to compact size for travel and hiking. The offset center column is a great feature and adds to its versatility/abilities. I read other reviews before purchasing and this lives up to its expectations.

Very nice!

First tripod I have purchased and I am not disappointed. Very easy to use and has the flexibility to get the right angle on non-standard subject matter. I use it for personal uses and research photography for work. Combined it with an Arca Swiss Z1 DP ballhead, and the combination has worked superbly thus far.

This is my second one

This my second one . I have used the previous version for 10 years. Perfect for landscape and other outdoor photography. From ground level to its max height this is an amazing tripod and worth the money . It versatility makes it perfect for any use. The newer model is an improvement over the previous in weight, stabillity and function. Go for it!

Answer to question re 500mm lens

I would not recommend this tripod for use with any large or heavy lens, and do not thinks it is suitable for wildlife, sports, action, wedding or events photography.

Magnificently versatile tripod

Right off the bat, be assured this tripod is extremely stable. However, its design is anything but conventional, so it took a leap of faith to commit to the purchase. I am currently using it mostly for industrial picture taking; its flexibility allows me to easily have a steady camera positioned to get shots that are needed but difficult to impossible to take handheld or with a conventional tripod. But it is quite stable, and damps any vibrations quickly. I can't compare it to any other tripods in its price class, because this is the first time I have had a really high end tripod. But as a mechanical engineer by profession, I am delighted with this product. For example, the tilt lock mechanism for the center column is implemented with face gears that provide for a positive locking of the column tilt. There is just no possible way for the column to drift when it is locked into position. The flexibility does mean that one has to think a bit about what one is doing in terms of counterbalancing an extended, tilted center column; choosing lenses that won't drift when angled down (if shooting down) etc. So there is a unique bit of learning associated with learning to use these legs, and frankly, I have to slow down, plan my shots and set up accordingly. But that's a trivial price to pay for this wonderful combination of stability and flexibility. Would I buy it again? Well, hopefully I'll never have to, but I would in a heartbeat. This tripod is now the backbone of my kit.

Awesome tripod!

I mainly do landscape photography and want a tripod that is light enough not to bother me on hikes and sturdy enough to carry a 40D with battery pack. This tripod is definitely light and very versatile (great for macro too). I use it with an acratech ballhead.

The Gitzo GT2541EX 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod uses advanced "Carbon 6X" carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger, lighter and as resistant as its 12 layer predecessor. Carbon "6X" is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes. This tripod incorporates many new ideas in tripod design and offers extreme flexibility.

It features individually locking legs that can be fixed at any angle from 0° to 90° and a column that will tilt from the vertical, right over beyond the horizontal and lock solidly at any angle. The GT2541EX is especially ideal for outdoor macro and nature photography, when used with digital SLRs with 200mm lenses (up to a 300mm maximum), lightweight camcorders, or spotting scopes. It offers an excellent load capacity rating of 26.4 lbs (12kg) and good torsional rigidity.
