Questions & Answers

Shopper : Will a GH1780QD ball head work with this tripod?ANDREW R : Should fit most heads equipped with a standard 3/8"-16 threaded mount.
Shopper : Hi. Is the center column replaceable with a flat disc? Thanks for any help.WILLIAM J : Thank you both. Does it have the ALR feature? None of the online descriptions anywhere include ALR. I think all new-generation Gitzos have it but this model seems to have been discontinued.DAVID K : The center column is easily removeable. That way you can use the tripod with the legs fully spread to get close to the ground. You just unscrew a bolt, slide out the center column, and replace just the bolt and the top plate. The top plate is the same one you attach your tripod head to whether you use the center column or not. The tripod is excellent!ANDREW R : Gitzo indicates that this model features "ground level set". "This new feature allows you to remove the centre column to save weight and get the camera closer to the ground. Uses existing components: the upper disc with reversible 1/4' - 3/8' bolt and the column hook assembly: Remove column and fix the disk directly to the upper casting using the column hook. No tools needed."

Sturdy but pricy

I use this as a base for macro photography. It's extremely stable and easy to use.
