Very steady, but a little bit heavy for hiking.

Good tripod

A versatile, solid performer.  Exactly what you would expect from Gitzo.  Not too heavy (love carbon fiber) and rock solid with no surprises.  With several useful options available, this tripod can be used in the studio or in the field.  Some of the options include a center column, different feet, and a mounting bowl for video heads.  Although expensive, it's a quality product that should last a long time even with severe use. I have my Systematic set up with a leveling head and switch between a gimbal and ball head depending upon what I'm shooting.
