In 1972, the 1081 emerged as the most flexible equalizer ever incorporated into a mixing console. Its unique 4-band equalizer allowed for unprecedented sound sculpting, largely due to its mid bands covering almost the entire audio spectrum in 20 steps. However, its class A/B output stage was a step down from the class A used in the 1073, making the latter a preferred choice for tracking. For two decades, audio professionals have pondered the possibility of a 1081 equalizer with a 1073 preamp in their console. The answer was always a resounding 'no' until the introduction of the 8173 Microphone Preamplifier Module. This module combines the best of both worlds in an 8 3/4" package, fully compatible with Series 80 consoles. The 8173 can be aptly described as a 1073 preamp with the mid bands of the 1081. Heritage Audio has wisely retained the 1073 Baxandall shelving low and high equalizer bands due to their exceptional sound quality. However, they have added a choice of 3 high shelving frequencies, reminiscent of the 1084. This combination of features provides unparalleled flexibility and tone, making the 8173 Microphone Preamplifier Module a standout choice for any professional audio setup.
