The Edison Robot, named to reflect an inventive spirit, is more than just a toy. It's a hands-on, interactive learning tool that goes beyond traditional textbook learning. It engages children in a fun, practical way, encouraging them to explore and experiment with robotics. But it's not just about robotics - this kit also introduces children to engineering, math, and general science concepts such as sensors.
Each Edison Robot is equipped with a host of sensors and can be programmed using a variety of free software applications. These include EdBlocks, a graphical robot programming language perfect for beginners aged 8 to 12; EdWare, a hybrid graphical robot programming software that combines drag-and-drop icons with text-based entry; and EdPy, a text-based programming language that teaches the popular Python programming language.
The Edison Robot interacts with the world through infra-red (IR) transmitters and receivers, line tracking, barcode reading, and sound detection. It's equipped with two motors with variable speeds, left and right red LED lights, and three control buttons. The robots can communicate with each other over IR, and can also be programmed by and controlled with TV and DVD remotes.
The Lego-compatible plates on the robot's face allow for endless possibilities. Children can scale up their creations, combine multiple robots for more complex systems, and even power new inventions with the robot's motors.
