Not Rocket Science
Protective, low-profile, fits nicely.
It's too bad there's not a way (or at least no one has yet) to make a matte finish that isn't so reflective. The LCD on its own is pretty good for viewing in any light; this cover definitely makes it more difficult to see your images.

Pricey but dust free
When I bought my D2X, a monitor screen cover came with it but gaps around the edges allowed dust to collect obscuring viewing in bright light. When I bought the D3, Nikon didn't include a protector. The Hoodcap for my D3 is a tight fit around the monitor and doesn't allow the dust to get in. It's a bit pricey (not unlike the camera) but works well and doesn't scratch easily.

Better than nothing
I understand the LCD screen on the D3 to be extremely durable, but I don't want to take any chances. I do believe this product will give an extra layer of protection, but has no real "scratch resistance" as advertised. Applied the cover on a new D3 and upon first use had walked no more than 25 feet when the cover was scratched from rubbing on my vest. In defense of the cover, I did buy another and carry it as a spare in my bag.

A must for your D3
A must for your D3 LCD. Nikon should have included an LCD cover with the D3, but at least you can get this Hoodman to protect the screen.

Hoodman Hoodcap for the Nikon D3 works!
The Hoodman Hoodcap for Nikone D3 is one of the best accessories you can buy for your D3. It is inexpensive and reasonably priced for what it does. The high quality impact resistant plastic attaches to front of the LCD. It simply protects the LCD screen from scratches and breakage. It looks like Nikon designed the Hoodcap for the D3. The Hoodcap stays-on, It fits the D3 well and is very durable. Nikon should have included the Hoodcap with the D3 to begin with.
I highly recommend Hoodman Hoodcap for Nikon D3 owners. I will never use my D3 without it!
