Questions & Answers

Shopper : What happens if you only plug in one of the ports?STUART K : This is kind of weird. I bought about a dozen of these cables from adorama at least 5 years ago and out of the blue they send me a email asking me to answer a customer's question about them. i've got a couple of minutes to spare so here's my two cents. I play electronic drums, each drum pad uses an xlr cable to send a signal (basically just a electronic "click") to the drum brain. i wanted to see if I could use these cables to split each drum pad signal so I could send it to two different drum brains at the same time (so I could layer the drum sounds). It worked! Based on that experience, and in relation to the question at hand, I would think that if you only hooked up one of the two male xlr cables then it would only send the signal out of the one that was hooked up to something else. If you were using, let's say a regular xlr microphone, it would send that mic signal out of either one or both of the male xlr cables. This cable is just sending two identical signals out of it. If you wanted to send that same signal into two different pieces of hardware that have xlr inputs this cable would do that. I don't know why you just wouldn't use a regular xlr cable if you're only sending the signal to one piece of gear, since this cable's purpose is for splitting one signal into two. Hope that helps. Please note : I'm no expert, just a demented musician trying to see if my crazy theories work in the real world.
