Review Summary

I initially bought the XCD 4/28P, but since I wanted to shoot the aurora, I also purchased the XCD 2,5/25V. The f/2.5 aperture is definitely useful, and I was able to capture beautiful aurora shots. The image quality that concerned me with the 28P was not an issue at all with the 25V, even without any corrections. Now, for everyday outings, I use the 28P and 55V, while for landscape photography trips, I go with the 25V and 55V. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I was fortunate to receive one of the first examples shipped of this lens. It is far lighter and more portable than the previous 90mm 3.2 and especially the heavy-as-a-log 80mm f1.9. Honestly this lens does not seem that much better for autofocus than any of the earlier lenses, despite the marketing claims, on either the X2D or the 907x, and I find I don't use or like the secondary ring that can be set to control aperture or shutter speed or EV or whatever?but that is because I generally don't use autofocus on either Hasselblad OR Phase One cameras (I get faster and more consistent results in Manual focus mode and Hasselblad has excellent focus assist tools), and I DO keep grabbing the secondary ring and then wondering why the focus doesn't move. First few times I shifted aperture because of this mistake, so now I turn the ring completely OFF in the camera. Image quality is everything I'd expect, Hasselblad color science produces fantastic images straight from the camera and minimizes my post production corrections. The 65mm f2.8 is still my favorite but this one is every good

Incredible quality camera lens Best combination with the latest camera. It's not easy to buy, but it's worth it.

I purchased this XCD 55mm direct from Hasselblad but have bought other lenses from Adorama. This is a bit smaller than the other X series lenses which is a bonus, using a 72mm filter size. I was very impressed with how quickly it focuses compared to other Hasselblad lenses. It is very quick, spot on, and I have not noticed much hunting as I have with some of my other system lenses. I shot a commercial product shot which has a Hoya Sparkle Filter on it to show small cross stars on some of the lights in the shot. I will probably use this as a street camera lens on my X2D going forward. I am impressed. I have no issues with this lens.

Beautiful and High Performing Gem!
By Sam S.
This is an incredible little lens with outstanding image quality and tank like build. Sleek, small, beautiful, rich features, quiet and super sharp. Highly recommended for X2D users.
An unrivalled merge of form and function ¬– The X2D 100C establishes itself as Hasselblad’s flagship mirrorless medium format camera. A 100-megapixel CMOS sensor and advancements in image quality, focusing, stabilization, responsiveness, and storage, are built into iconic Scandinavian design. The X2D 100C combines groundbreaking engineering with a craftsman’s touch.
The XCD 2,5/55V, XCD 2,5/38V, and XCD 2,5/90V, are compact, lightweight, and maintain Hasselblad’s top-class optical performance. A fully upgraded focusing module enables faster and more accurate autofocus. The leaf shutter provides flash synchronization at all speeds and is now even more compact.
Each metal lens features both a focus ring and lens control ring delicately engraved with a Hasselblad “H” logo print. A simple push and pull of the focus ring changes from AF to MF mode, where intuitive scale marks keep focus distance and DOF clear at a glance. The control ring can be customized for quick access to preferred functions, making shooting more convenient and efficient.
The XCD 38mm f/2.5-32 Lens stands as a paragon of Hasselblad's commitment to exceptional image quality and precision engineering. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of a medium format sensor, this lens is a perfect match for the discerning photographer who seeks to capture the world with unparalleled clarity and color fidelity.
Optimized for a resolution exceeding 100 megapixels, the XCD 38mm f/2.5-32 features an advanced optical construction of ten elements in nine groups. This includes three aspherical elements to minimize spherical aberrations and three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements to control chromatic aberrations, ensuring crisp, distortion-free images across the entire frame.
The lens's 30mm full-frame equivalent focal length opens up a world of creative possibilities, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of photographic applications, from expansive landscapes and dynamic street scenes to intimate portraits and detailed close-ups. The wide f/2.5 aperture excels in low-light conditions and provides a shallow depth of field for a beautiful bokeh effect, drawing attention to the subject against a softly blurred background.
Incorporating Hasselblad's renowned leaf shutter system, the XCD 38mm f/2.5-32 lens offers high-speed shutter capabilities up to 1/2000s, enabling photographers to capture fast-moving subjects with ease. The shutter's flash synchronization at all speeds is a boon for creative lighting, allowing for the use of flash in any lighting condition without limitations.
The lens's autofocus is swift and silent, thanks to the upgraded focusing module with a linear stepping motor. This, combined with the Hasselblad X2D's Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) technology, ensures rapid and precise focus acquisition. For those who prefer manual control, the focus ring's push-pull mechanism allows for a seamless switch to manual focus, where distance and depth of field scales aid in achieving sharp, accurate shots.
The XCD 38mm f/2.5-32 is not only a marvel of optical performance but also a testament to Hasselblad's iconic design language. The metal construction exudes durability, and the focus and control rings feature the signature Hasselblad "H" logo, meticulously engraved with a 0.3mm drill bit. The tactile feedback of the rings is finely calibrated for a satisfying, intuitive user experience.
Weighing a mere 350g, this lens is a testament to the fusion of portability and top-tier optical prowess. Its compact size belies its robust build quality and makes it an ideal companion for photographers on the move. The minimum focusing distance of just 30cm opens up a realm of macro photography, allowing for the capture of intricate details in subjects like cuisine and products.
The XCD 38mm f/2.5-32 Lens is a versatile tool that empowers photographers to explore their creative vision with confidence, knowing that the lens's performance will not only meet but exceed the highest standards of medium format photography.
