The last number (i.e. 58) implies the mm measurement for your lens.WILLIAM J C : The "circular" polarizer is required by auto focusing and auto metering cameras over a linear filter. If you use the wrong filter the auto systems may not function properly. You will need to check the filter size of the particular lens you are using. Sometimes the filter size is on the lens, sometimes on the inside of the lens cap, if not, it you can search for your lens on the internet and look under specifications. To obtain the best results read how to use a polarizer filter.MIKE L : It fits two DX lenses that I have, the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm. It may not fit other DX lenses. Each lens has it's own filter size, which can generally be found somewhere on the lens.Frank F : Yes, it can fit DX lens as long as it is 52mm wide.

Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarised and polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camara lens.
• They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc.
• They also saturate colors and increase contrast.
•Polarizers come in two variations but have the same effect. Linear polarizers work with older camera meters; Circurlar polarizers are designed for today's newer split-beam metering systems used in auto focus cameras. Check your camera's manual.
