Questions & Answers

MICHAEL R : Is this filter sharper than the Pro Optic filter that I am using at the present ?FRANCIS S : its like splitting hair. I think the difference in sharpness is too hard to tell. But the ghosting, flaring...etc is the main difference in the filters. But I can't really tell you if one is better than the other.PETER D : I don't know how sharp your pro optic filter is, but the Hoya is excellent.
Shopper : I have the Tokina 11-16 that I bought from you guys and need to buy a UV filter and Polarizer. Which do you suggest? Thanks -MarkOWEN D : I have the Hoya 77mm DMC Pro1 UV on 2 lens. Great buyNOAH T : I have the Hoya 77mm UV Filter on my Nikon 16-35, The filter is well built and filters the UV Light. But more importantly, I used it to "protect the lens". I highly recommend Hoya Filters.RONALD B : I feel that I am insufficiently experienced to offer advice on this.BERNARD W : You need both filters. The UV filter is a "lens protector" and should be left on the lens full time, except when you are using the polarizer. With your Tokina 11-16 lens, using both filters at one time will cause vignettting, so it will be necessary to remove the UV filter when using the polarizer. Be cautious when purchasing an "ultra-thin" polarizer, as most of them are so thin that the lens cap has nothing to grab on to, and you will have to purchase a lens cap that fits on the filter's exterior. I have been extremely happy with all of the pro-grade filters I have purchased from Adorama---try not to skimp on filters you use on a pro grade lens.STEPHEN M : Not sure on the mm size needed for the Tokina but just spend the money and get good stuff...Suggest Hoya DMC PRO1 Digital Multi-Coated UV (Ultra Violet) Filter A little pricey but you only live once. SMMCARY G : I bought this filter for my 10-22 canon wide angle lens. Being that this lens lives on my Canon D40- 80 % of the time, it see's alot of use, and I like the fact that the lens is probably protected, with the Hoya DMC filter. The filter does NOT detract or add any distortion to my photo's, it actually helps with the glare. The only time I take it off ,is to add a step down filter for time exposed shots . Cheers CaryALLAN A : I got Hoya 77mm DMC PRO1 Digital Multi-Coated UV (Ultra Violet) Filter for my Nikkor lenses in October of last year. There is nothing better you can get for the money. My shots look crispier and my lenses are well protected. You will not go wrong with this filter.DAVID K : Very pleased with this filter. Quality is the best. I remove this filter when I use flash and when I use the polarizer.LAWRENCE B : This is Larry again. I use the Tokina 11-16 also and the filter size is 77mm. I also recomment you get s NIKON lens cap to fit it. They only cost a couple of bucks and are easier to get on and off thus reducing the probablilty of scratching your lens/filter with the lens cap. LarryLAWRENCE B : Hi Mark... This is Larry in Texas. UV filters and polarizing filters do different things. The polarizing filter will cut out reflections and make colors(such as the sky) a deeper color and make the pictures better but it does block some of the incoming light so you will have to shoow a bit slower or with a wider arperature. The UV filter is usually used to protect the lens on the camera. Many cameras noa-a-days have UV filter in the camera already but the UV filter is still a good idea to protect the lens. As for which filters to get, the main thing is the filter size of your lens. It will be specified in millimeters(mm). Unless you are a real professional(and I don't think you are) then which filter you get is not very critical as long as it is the right filter size(mm).
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DENNIS G : I needed a 77m filter and have always been happy with Hoya productsFRANCISCO O : My previous experience with Hoya filters. Great quality at a good price. I keep a UV filter on every lens I own, mostly for protection from scratches'CLIFF R : Best quality for dollars. Great protection to lens and a must have for outdoor shots. Why spend $$$ on a great lens and then skimp on the filter??

great filter

I got this UV filter for $5.00. It was in nearly perfect condition. I saved big $$$ with is purchase. I will never buy a new UV filter ever again. I don't like to use lens hoods and I need the filter to protect the front lens elements.

Great!

I ordered my lens cover for a autofocus telephoto lens I recently purchased. I call a supplier and they did not stock. I called Adorama and immediately the sales person knew what I need in size and price. My order was safely wrapped and shipped that day. A tracking number was emailed. My order was received in good condition. I will order other photo items, as needed, in the future, from Adorama.

Working well

Nice fit and finish, I don?t have enough experience to say if it?s improving my photos. I got it mostly as protection for my fuji 55-200 lens, and wanted something of decent quality that would not affect image quality at a reasonable price.

A Must Have Filter

A good glass UV filter to adjust for bluish uv rays and light haze that may effect sharpness and exposure colors. Also also a reasonable level of protection for your lens.

A Wonderful Filter for (Almost) Every Situation

Hoya has always been my filter company of choice, and they continue to impress me. Since this was the first filter I've bought from their "alpha" line (having previously used HD3 or EVO UV filters), I was slightly concerned that the lower price might introduce issues. After using this on filter on a Nikon 50mm AIS mounted at various times to both a Nikon F4 (180 film exposures) and a Nikon D850 (~300 digital RAW shots), I can say that it provides similar results to it's more expensive brethren. In fact, I'd say for most people looking for a Hoya 52mm UV/protection filter, the two main options are this lens and the NXT (of course Hoya makes HD3, EVO, and other premium filters in this size, but for the basic needs of UV and front glass protection, the alpha and the NXT are both great choices). There are some situations though, where you might want (or sometimes need) to pick the NXT. The alpha uses a standard 5mm frame, while the NXT employs a thinner design, needed if you are shooting with a wide-angle lens or if you are stacking additional filters on top of your UV filter.

Puts the blue back in the sky

By Notoast

Used on my Tokina 11-16 with a D300. It does not interfere with the lens hood nor the lens cap. For comparison, the mounted filter is thinner than the lens cap. Even when shooting at 11 mm I can't see any artifacts caused by the filter. I shoot mostly outdoors above 9000 feet, and without a UV filter the sky can appear washed out which is tough to post process when there are clouds. This filter really brings back the blue that I see when composing the image.

The Utimate Protection

By Calvin L.

This review is coming from someone who shattered a 52mm Nikon filter by accident on a door knob. The filter saved the lens from damage and prevented likely damage to the front element. Bought this HD version to protect a manual focus Nikon 85mm/1.4.The increased diameter of this fast lens expressed a vulnerability to impact damage that becomes canceled by the utilizing the robust construction of this filter as insurance. This lens would be both costly and difficult to replace because it is no ...
