Great service and I love the filter. I hav used Adrorama before. Initially I received the wrong lens. Customer service was great to work with for the return and getting the right filter before our trip.

- Well made and easy to use. I'm not crazy about using the screw on "lever" to turn the outer ring, but it's not really needed either. The ring turns easily without the lever and is easier to store back in the container it comes in w/o fiddling around with and perhaps losing the small lever.

Before stepping into the field with your camera, consider the HOYA Variable Density II Filter, an essential tool for photographers and videographers seeking precise control over their exposure settings. This 55mm filter offers a dynamic range of neutral density adjustment from ND3 to ND400, equivalent to 1.5 to 9 f-stops, enabling you to adapt swiftly to varying lighting conditions without swapping multiple filters.
Crafted with a cutting-edge design, the HOYA Variable Density II stands out with its rotatable frame featuring a user-friendly knob, which significantly enhances operational ease. This innovative feature allows for quick and accurate adjustments to the density level, ensuring that you capture the perfect shot, whether you're aiming for a silky waterfall effect or a crisp, cinematic motion in your videos.
The importance of variable density filters cannot be overstated, particularly for their versatility in replacing an entire set of fixed ND filters. For still photography, they empower you to achieve slower shutter speeds when camera limitations prevent it, thereby enabling the creation of stunning motion blur effects. They also facilitate the use of wider apertures in brightly lit scenarios, drawing attention to your subject by reducing depth of field and avoiding overexposure.
In the realm of video production, maintaining a shutter speed that is double the frame rate is crucial for achieving a natural, smooth motion. The HOYA Variable Density II Filter is indispensable for videographers, as it allows for the precise adjustment of shutter speed to match the frame rate, eliminating the risk of unnatural motion artifacts and ensuring a professional-quality outcome.
The HOYA Variable Density II Filter's design is meticulously engineered to minimize vignetting, especially when used with wide-angle lenses. However, it's important to be aware of the potential for vignetting with APS-C size wide-angle lenses at focal lengths less than 13mm and full-frame wide-angle lenses at focal lengths less than 24mm.
Additionally, the unique structure of the filter frame permits the use of a lens cap one size larger than the filter itself, offering added convenience and protection for your lens.
Whether you're capturing long exposures without altering the aperture, preventing overexposure with large apertures, or aiming for that cinematic look in your video content, the HOYA Variable Density II Filter is a must-have for both amateur and professional image creators. Its precision and versatility make it an invaluable addition to your photography gear, ensuring that every shot you take is executed with the highest level of control and quality.
