Great service and I love the filter. I hav used Adrorama before. Initially I received the wrong lens. Customer service was great to work with for the return and getting the right filter before our trip.

- Well made and easy to use. I'm not crazy about using the screw on "lever" to turn the outer ring, but it's not really needed either. The ring turns easily without the lever and is easier to store back in the container it comes in w/o fiddling around with and perhaps losing the small lever.

How can photographers and videographers achieve precise control over their exposure settings in varying lighting conditions The HOYA Variable Density II Filter offers a versatile solution with its adjustable ND range from 1.5 to 9 f-stops (ND3-400), enabling creators to fine-tune their exposure without swapping out multiple solid ND filters. This advanced filter is engineered to provide seamless operability through its newly designed rotatable frame, which includes a convenient knob for effortless adjustments.
Understanding the significance of variable density filters is crucial for both still photography and videography. For photographers, the HOYA Variable Density II Filter allows for the reduction of shutter speed to convey motion or to create a sense of calm in scenes with moving elements like waterfalls or bustling cityscapes. This is particularly beneficial when the camera's limitations prevent a slower shutter speed. Additionally, it aids in achieving a shallower depth of field by enabling wider apertures in brightly lit environments, thereby drawing attention to the subject and enhancing bokeh effects.
In the realm of video production, maintaining a consistent shutter speed relative to the frame rate is essential for natural-looking motion. The rule of thumb is to set the shutter speed at double the frame rate. The HOYA Variable Density II Filter empowers videographers to adhere to this standard, avoiding the undesirable staccato effect that can occur with excessively fast shutter speeds.
Highlighted Features:
- The HOYA Variable Density II Filter boasts an exclusive rotatable frame construction, which includes a fixed frame and a wider rotatable frame to minimize vignetting, especially when used with wide-angle lenses.
- Vignetting caution is advised for APS-C size wide-angle lenses at focal lengths less than 13mm and full-frame wide-angle lenses at focal lengths less than 24mm.
- The filter's unique frame structure allows for compatibility with lens caps one size larger than the filter itself, enhancing convenience and protection.
For Longer Exposures:
The filter's ability to modulate light intake without altering the aperture setting empowers photographers to experiment with longer exposures, achieving creative motion blur effects that make subjects stand out.
For Wider Apertures:
In conditions of excessive light, the HOYA Variable Density II Filter enables the use of wider apertures to decrease depth of field, focusing attention on the subject and preventing overexposure.
For Cinematic Video Quality:
A staple for video bloggers and professional filmmakers, this variable density filter is indispensable for setting appropriate exposures in bright lighting to achieve that sought-after cinematic look.
Crafted with precision and designed for ease of use, the HOYA Variable Density II Filter is an essential tool for content creators who demand flexibility and control over their visual narratives.
