Ikan Baseplate Kit

The Ikan Blackmagic Base Plate for Blackmagic Camera is a base plate and 15mm rod combination that resolves two challenges that use of the Blackmagic camera faces. One challenge is that the camera's fan is at the camera's bottom, where the camera "sits" on any plate it attaches to. If the camera is attached to an ordinary plate, airflow can be held back as the fan will at least partly be covered. In solution, the Blackmagic Base Plate features exhaust holes positioned such that they allow proper airflow and accordingly prevent overheating. The second challenge is that most accessories cannot be attached directly to the Blackmagic camera, as no space is available for them to be attached. The Base Plate and its accompanying rods together provide the space to attach both the camera and intermediary components, like cheese plates. And accessories, like brick batteries, can then be mounted onto these intermediary components. The Base Plate has 1/4" and 3/8" tripod-mount threads and the rods, at 9 inches length, are long enough to support both a follow focus and matte box for use with the camera. What's more about the mini-rig -- it's affordable and it's expandable to the addition of any Ikan "Elements" rig components, like side handles.
