The Poplar Burl top and selected lightweight African Mahogany body provide a warm tone with rich resonance. The 9-piece Panga Panga/Walnut neck, coupled with a bound Panga Panga fretboard, offers superior note attack, tight lows, and increased sustain. This electric bass guitar is equipped with Nordstrand Big Split custom pickups, featuring split coils with hum-canceling construction for less noise. Its tone character is a hybrid P/J style, providing a rich and strong, yet well-balanced tone, which fits well with various kinds of playing styles. The Vari-Mid 3-Band EQ with EQ bypass switch allows you to dial in an incredibly wide range of sounds. The MR5HS mono rail bridge, designed especially for the EHB basses, features a wide intonation range and adjustable saddles for string spacing, catering to every bassist's individual string spacing demands. For a smooth tuning action, Teflon washers are used on each tuner. The Schaller S-Lock strap lock pins and a Neutrik locking jack ensure your strap and cable are securely attached. This bass plays nice, sounds nice, and fits nicely (weight, how it hangs).
However, there are QC problems you would not expect in a $1700 instrument: the neck finish is a little rough, two of the potentiometers were loose, requiring that I removed the knobs, open up the back to hold them in place, and tighten the nuts.
Additionally, there does not appear to be a user manual of any kind. Instead you have to go to the Ibanez web-site and find a generic manual for the bridge and one for the preamp, but not one for this $1700 instrument. There are no suggestions as to what the little chunk of wood is for or where it should be placed (it?s a ?finger ramp?). It?s really as if Ibanez does not care much about the customer.
