Before you is the RG j.custom Axe Design Lab Series RG8870 Electric Guitar in a sleek Black Rutile finish, a testament to Ibanez's commitment to innovation, cutting-edge design, and pioneering spirit. This instrument is a standout in the Ibanez line, boasting three decades of metal heritage that has shaped it into a high-performance machine, designed for speed and strength.
Whether you prefer a hardtail (fixed) bridge or our industry-leading locking tremolo system, the RG8870 is a precision instrument, crafted to meet the unique demands of modern players. It's part of the Axe Design Lab series, which embodies Ibanez's relentless pursuit of innovation, setting new industry standards with features like 7-string, 8-string, and multi-scale guitars.
The RG8870 is a j.custom model, a designation that represents the pinnacle of Ibanez's design and technological advancements. These guitars are handcrafted by a select group of luthiers, trained to produce instruments of uncompromised quality. The RG8870 features the best woods, neck, fret treatments, in-demand pickups, and top-quality hardware, all masterfully assembled to ensure unparalleled sound, maximum playability, and exquisite beauty.
The Super Wizard AS 5pc Maple/Wenge neck is designed with a more rounded shape on the 6th string side, maintaining the overall thickness of the Super Wizard - 17mm at the nut and 19mm at the 12th fret. This asymmetric shape provides a comfortable and stable grip, making techniques like sweeping and string skipping easier.
The RG8870 also features a Macassar Ebony fretboard, known for producing tight lows and mid-range tones, along with a strong attack in the highs and quick response with rich sustain. The jumbo frets with j.custom fret edge treatment offer a quick response, good articulation when playing chords, and clear tone when playing single notes, providing the ultimate smooth touch around every single fret.
The guitar's body is a blend of a selected Flamed Maple top (4mm) and an Alder body, creating a well-balanced bright tone, enriched resonance, and sustain. The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary (H) / True Velvet / The Tone Zone pickups offer depth, warmth, and rich dynamics, while the Gotoh machine heads ensure super precision and smooth feel.
Additional features include the legendary Lo-Pro Edge tremolo, a coil-tap switch for added sound and tonal variations, Gotoh Strap lock pins for secure stage performance, and a hardshell case for extreme protection. The RG8870 also boasts special j.custom features like a neck with a "Velvetouch" finish for easy playability, an All Access Neck Joint for superior high fret playability, a chambered body for lighter weight and added bottom and clarity, and a deep and beveled lower horn scoop for better high fret access.
