I have a Vixia HG21, was leary about buying them (got 2) because of the charging problems people were having. If you have this camera don't worry, worked like a champ, when using the camera the minutes do show up just like OE, it is great the extra time to shoot and not worry about running out of juice, now I have 3 batteries for it and will be able to shoot all day.

Gives longer battery life for the price than the standard Canon labelled battery. Unfortunately it is incompatible with Canons firmware (My camcorder is a HFG10) so the camcorder has no idea how much battery life is left so you do not get low battery warnings.

If you upgrade the firmware in your Canon HF S20 to support sdXc media, the camcorder will NO LONGER charge the battery. In addition to giving the ability to use the larger memory card, CANON gave you the business by fixing the firmware issue in the first release that allowed you charge third parties batteries in the camcorder. Spend the extra few bucks and get yourself a stand alone TRICKLE charger (fast chargers GREATLY reduce battery life) and don't worry about it. Without an external charger, the camcorder will NEVER charge the battery. Don't blame the battery for an intentional design "feature" from Canon.

These batteries are around [$]. Canon wanted over [$] for the same battery. As Adorama gives 30 day return, I decided to try it and bought six of these. Contrary to what the Canon manual says, these batteries WILL charge in the camera (HF S20), but it does take overnight to fully charge these large batteries.

I bought this to save money over the Canon battery. Ended up buying the Canon battery anyway because this one was a huge disappointment.

i bought 2 of these about a month ago. i charged them using an adorama charger (item IBYPT24), and have used them since with no complaints. they greatly extend the life of the battery, and the price is excellent. i recommend this item to anyone with a canon camcorder!

Important things first, I'm able to charge this battery using Canon VIXIA HG21 camcorder and the battery status is also displayed on LCD. Thus, I assume it consists of intelligent chip that communicate with Canon camcorder. Overall, good performance saving considerable amount of money. I can't comment on longevity but definitely work a try looking at the price.
