First time I used the camera the flash doesn't work and I get an error message on LCD screen. Very disappointing.

Coming from the Rebel t4i, I really appreciate the rear command dial and the sturdy build. The rapid frame rate is also fun to use on fast-moving subjects. I understand that at the time it first came out, the LCD screen was a huge improvement. However, by today's standards, it is really quite below par. You can't really review your image like you can with the latest cameras. However, all-in-all, I am enjoying my 40D more than my far more up-to-date t4i, if only for the more solid feel and the mechanically satisfying dials as opposed to more plastic buttons.

Semi Professional use. Having been paid for some work but mostly a hobby for over 40 years now. 90 percent of my shooting is wildlife with some scenic. Pros: One of my favorite features of the 40D is the high ISO (3200) with 1/3 step increments for finer tuning to get clear shots with less noise. Solid construction in a Pro Entry level body at a price that can't be beat. Cons: The very small top LCD screen. You need cheaters to read it. But you can use the 'Info' button to get the same read out on the view screen. I own 2 40D's and throttle them both pretty good while trying to shoot birds in flight. As usual Adorama is always true to there 'condition ratings'and delivery times are quicker than posted. I'll always be a customer.

The camera was great...clean and functioned perfectly. But the charger was aftermarket, not Canon. And the battery is shot. It will hold a charge but is dead after less than 100 photos. Like I said, the camera was GREAT and I'd buy it again even knowing about the battery and charger but I would have liked to have known about that in advance.

This is my 2nd used DSLR that I've purchased from Frank at Adorama. My first, a Canon 20D is still in perfect working condition and took a beating with a non-stop marathon season - in stride. I just now upgraded to a Canon 40D and have had the same experience. Great customer service! I tend towards the E+ items and haven't been disappointed. The 40D was a perfect choice for me. I was considering spending all my lunch money on a 7D but I didn't. I mean, who wouldn't want a late model top of the line camera? I certainly did - but in truth, it won't make me a better photographer. I invested heavily in Canon L lenses a few years back and I make an effort to go on photo shoots of all kinds - as often as possible. Next I'd like to pick up a used E+ 5D for full frame landscape photography. Then I'll take the money I've saved and go to a fabulous location and get swept off my feet. That sounds much more interesting and adventurous - to me. As for the 40D - I love it. Any google search will tell of how great this camera is and with good reason!

This is a well-established camera with scores of reviews, so I am only going to comment on this used model. Even with the included used battery, the battery life is astounding. I can get 1000 shots off (without using high-speed continuous shutter). When Adorama rates the condition of a camera, they do so very conservatively (it was nicer than I expected). They also did an amazing packaging job - I have bought more expensive things online before, but never anything packaged better.

This is my first DSLR camera, so I was a little taken aback by how big and heavy it is, even though I was expecting that! But it really feels pro and I am very pleased with picture quality.

Used as a 2nd camera/ back up to a Mark II 1N All the features of more expensive bodies at a lower price. Bought it used/refurbished.Could not tell the difference from new. Great deal.Second 40D, the first one is used in a waterhousing.

I bought this camera because I wanted a good camera with a comfortable grip. Canon's are great for women with smaller hands, and its not bulky and heavy. I bought the 40D because I wanted just the camera, that is I don't need video or 3D/HD or anything else like that. If I wanted all of that I'd buy it separate. I love this camera and I take it everywhere.

replaced my previous 40d which is 3 years old. This performs far better and has a much better build quality. I am in love, again, with this fabulous camera!!

The EOS 40D is a sophisticated camera capable of making an ordinary shot extraordinary. Its autofocus is fast, and the many adjustments you can make to balance exposure and clarity will produce the best picture for your purpose. The camera must be mated with an appropriately great lens to get the results you want.

I had a Panasonic FZ 28 before this camera. The High ISO pictures were not very high in quality so I decided to save my pennies for a DSLR. I bought an EOS 40D camera used about 1 year ago. I ran into the cursed "error 99" message, so I returned it to be fixed. I was given an opportunity to get another 40D as a replacement, so I took advantage of the opportunity. It is a solid camera, which I prefer, so I know I am holding a REAL camera. I bought a 70-200mm F4.0L USM with it, but No IS. Some of the pictures are absolutely stunning in detail, and color while others are just good snapshots. Many of the bad photos were due to my error. In the High Speed continuous setting, maybe one out of 10 shots will not be in focus, but the shots on either side of the bad photo are in focus. Most of the photography I do is Sports and Theatre. It handles both well. The major challange in sports trying to keep up with speed of the action. In theatre, the problem is lighting. You have very HIGH contrast light or just plain dark. The 40D handles the speed for sports photography well, although sometimes is slips from the 6.5 frames/second after only 10 pictures. That could be due to card speed or some other factor I am not aware of because at other times, the rate stays at 6.5 fps for more than 40 frames (that when I stop taking pictues.) The theatre lighting problem of High contrast is more difficult to over come. I try underexposing so you don't blow out the highlights, and then adjusting the picture in some post production program. All in all I really like the camera with one minor acception. The shutter release button sometimes doesn't release the shutter. Even when it is in focus. I may have to send it in to have it checked out.

Awesome product, I love it, paired with a nice lens for instance the 300mm f/2.8 IS this body really shines. At the price, the performance is unbeatable.

I like refurbs! I figure they've been through the QC process twice. The Canon 40D is my main camera, used every day. This refurb body has performed flawlessly, 30,000+ exposures to date. It was purchased as an upgrade from a well-used 30D, and is a substantially better camera. The viewscreen is a major improvement, and Live View has become a critical feature in my shooting process. I only wish the CMOS was less noisy; that will have to wait until I can afford to upgrade to a 7D. I have a Canon G11 with the tilt/swivel feature, as the 50D has, and find I do not use it much at all.Adorama [...] pricing for this purchase was outstanding,[...]I highly recommend them as a camera/electronics provider.

For the last few years, this camera has been a trusted, reliable friend. When I add another body (I'll keep this one when I do), it will only be due to changes in technology offering more options in newer models (video, for example). This camera has performed wonderfully over the years and I believe it will continue to serve me well for some time to come. When I acquire a new body, this one won't be left at home. I have trouble finding a "con" to associate with this camera. Any "cons" that I think of are by comparison with new models and it's not really fair to judge this camera against new models.

Extremely versatile camera with excellent image quality. It's good for just about any situation an enthusiast photographer might find him/herself in. By now, this camera is a bit outdated (no video, and not high enough ISO range), but worth every penny if you're looking for high quality pictures form a versatile and durable camera. Battery life has also proven to be exceptional.

I bought this as a step up from a Canon Rebel series DSLR. I didn't have a lot of money to drop on a pro-level camera, but when I saw this I jumped on it! I got more than I expected! The camera came in great condition; looked brand new. Very pleased with how this camera performs, it has taken my photos to the next level!

My 30D had an issue at the first motorsport event of the season forcing a trip to Canon for repair. Next event was the following weekend and the refurbished 40D was availible in time and on budget. Thank You Adorama for a great product that was in my hands in time for the next motorsport event.

Excellent back up for my wedding photography...already got me out of a jam when my 1DS had issues as the bride was coming down the aisle. Fun camera to use light weight and good make sense controls. Refurbished ... NO ISSUE!

If I hadn't seen the plain white "Canon Refurbished" box, I'd have never known it wasn't new. Everything in the box was in extraordinarily good condition. I checked the shutter count, and was surprised that it was less than 200. I used it extensively over the past 3 weeks, and it's been great so far.

I already had a 40D but needed a second camera for when I shoot sports. The refurbished 40D works as well as my older one and the price was great!
