Questions & Answers

ROBERTA L : Does the 70D have the same bracketing feature as the t1i does for shooting HDR?JOHN A : Yes, even better and easier to setup.
Shopper : Is this the newest cannon camera that just hit the market?JANIE B : According to the email that Adorama sent me, I purchased mine in July of 2013. At that time, it had just came out on the market. I don't know if there is another one or not. Hope this helps.ZACH H : No.WALTER S : No. At the time of answering this question, the newest Canon DSLRs are the 5DS and the 5DSR. Prior to those, the 7D mark II was released.DONALD K : Nope ... this one has been around for a while. See the quote below (from February 6, 2015) for their most recent camera: Canon announced a lot of new cameras today, but two in particular stand out — the 50-megapixel EOS 5DS is now the highest-resolution full-frame DSLR in the world, and the EOS M3 represents the camera giant's most serious take yet on the mirrorless category.CAROLYN T : Canon has a newer camera, but this one is very good. I actually like it a lot. Good quality and the lense is great also.JARED K : No, I bought mine back in October 2013. Great camera. If this is your first DSLR, you won't be disappointed. If you are upgrading from an older model, you won't be disappointed. If you want a full frame, this isn't the camera for you.
Shopper : why did you choose this?TOMMY V : It was a great upgrade from Canon 50D and the price was right, it also came with a really nice printer the Pro-100 for free. The focusing system is better than the 6D and less money as well. If money wasn't a problem I would have chosen the 5D Mark 3.KARL Z : Hello. I'd shot Nikon 35mm forever (and other stuff, medium format, etc.). At some point I dumped it all, and ultimately got a Nikon D300, etc. It was a fantastic camera, felt great, terrific. But Canon seemed to be always ahead of the curve in electronics, and in making more affordable glass. And I really wanted to be able to shoot video on the next DSLR I bought. Ultimately I switched to Canon, and this particular one, largely over what had been said about the focusing while shooting video. And that does work really well. If Nikon had a body at that time (they didn't) that I thought competed on that score, I'd have probably bought it. Over time I've bought some Canon glass that was definitely more available and more cheaply used and also more for the money new, as compared to Nikkor. I don't like the feel of this 70D as well, it's light, not balanced as well, small grip. The focusing, while very fast, and quiet, can sometimes be a little unpredictable. I liked the layout of the controls of the Nikon better than this, partly cause it just felt a lot more like an old film SLR, but even now it's hard for me to know where everything is on the Canon. Not particularly intuitive to me. But overall, I like the image quality. The focusing is fast. Not blazing, not the best of the best, but fast, and good. Video is terrific...really nice. I've had no problems with it, beyond some very occasional times where it'll search for focus in lower light (where I think there should be enough there to get it). The 18-135 is a good all-around lens; I had an 18-200 (was that it?) for the Nikon previously, and I'd say image quality is comparable. I have a 70-200/2.8, used, kinda beat, works decently, and the body feels pretty light on it. Recently got the new little 10-18, which is remarkably good for how cheap and light it is. Hopefully this helps a little...good luck.Denys R : Compact size and light weigh comparing to fullframe cameras, fast autofocus (6D is much slower for ex.), rotating touch-screen and wifi supportGREGORY Y : I choose the 70D because I wanted a step up from the entry level cameras and I read that the 70D was very good with video, which it is. Now that I have used the touch screen on the 70D, it is hard to go back to my T3i programming and remember what all the buttons are for. After 6 Canon cameras, the 70D has finally satisfied my hunger for a good camera. It will be sometime before I outgrow this model. It is well worth the price. It is said to be the entry level of the Professional Canon Cameras. No buyers remorse.VAUGHAN C : Light weight Fast, accurate autofocus Touch screen controls

Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR

Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR. The motherboard has been burned twice. Heats up for nothing. Canon had to remove this camera a long time ago.

Great Camera

I have owned this camera for over 2 years. It is so good, I see no reason to upgrade Picture quality and flexibility is fantastic. Unless you are an ultra class Professional, this is the camera for you.

Disappointed

I purchased this a couple of years ago and have had problem after problem with it not working correctly. I have sent it in to be fixed yet the problems continue. I have backup Canon Rebel t1i and continue to use that more often and it works fantastic. I am really disappointed in the 70D. The weight of it and the reliability, and problems I have are really disappointing.

Loved it, Until.......

If I had written this review two months ago, I would have given it 5 stars. I loved this camera. I primarily use it for quick shoots and video self tape auditions. It worked like a charm for 3 years. 2 days ago it happened to me like so many others. The camera locked up and went dead. Canon has known about this mother board problem for a while and they refuse to fix it. Instead of paying 400 dollars to fix this camera, I am putting that towards a nikon. I was such a fan for so long but lack of customer service is a deal breaker. This makes me very sad.

Never in focus, and LED screen went bad

I've had this camera for about 2 years, and it's never focused properly. Now the LED screen is going bad. Just sent it into Canon to look at but guessing it won't be a quick fix. My Rebel lasted longer than this piece of junk. So disappointed in Canon I think my next camera will have to be a Nikon.

Worthless Canon 70D!!!

I absolutely HATE my Canon 70d! The pictures are “out of focus” when using the autofocus setting, it does not take good quality “rapid photos”. I absolutely Loved my Canon 20d and have used it for years...I was hoping to really love the 70d...however, that purchase was a HUGE and expensive MISTAKE!

Great Deal! Great Quality! Great Camera!

I have owned this camera for a little over a year and am very happy with its quality. I especially like how the camera is set up for running on full manual. It is very easy to adjust your shutter speed, ISO, and f-stops once you are used to the camera's setup. The RAW files have plenty of range for adjustment and are perfect for capturing the "once in a lifetime" moment.

Camera locks up and freezes.

The 70d is a problem camera. Mine has locked up several times and win not reset correctly. Reviews show that the 70d has BIG problems which caused so many problems for photographers. I switched over from Sony Alpha and spend thousands on canon gear and several lens. Big big BIG mistake thinking canon was going to be more of a reliable camera. I recommend Sony or Nikon, they last as long as you do. Read all the Google reviews, to many complaints and problems with Canon cameras

Mine went dead also, $440 quote to replace motherboard. Bad customer service still have not resolved weeks later, on third person playing phone tag. Switching to another brand, fully frustrated. Looking at Sony or Nikon.

IN LOVE WITH THIS CAMERA!

This is an amazing camera even if you are a pro or a beginner, really easy to use. Also auto focus is great! I highly recommend this bundle, so far, Adorama has the best prices I ever seen, especially for me, because I'm from El Salvador and here cameras are really expensive, but I had a problem, so if you are purchasing this from another country make sure that Adorama send u enough shipping labels, because in my case they sent this in 3 packages but only 1 shipping label, so I had to pay more taxes, THAT IS THE ONLY REASON WHY IDK IF I WOULD PURCHASE FROM ADORAMA AGAIN, besides that, I'm really happy with my order, srsly,, BEST PRICES ONN THE MARKET.

Use it more than my 6D

This is my second 70D. I also own the 6D and do a lot of professional portraits. The colors from the 70D are exceptional and natural so I use it more than the 6D. I just prefer the 70d's colors. It also locks on focus more quickly in low light than the 6D. Love that the built-in flash can be used to trigger off-camera flash. And even though it doesn't have the new "flicker through" technology of the 80D and 7D II, I have never had a problem under fluorescent lights. In fact, one company I do headshots for allows me only 5 minutes with each person under overhead flourescents. The 70D produces great results using the available fluorescent light only, with a custom white balance. I did comparison shots with off camera flash -- the available light was better. No flicker-through technology needed (see example). I needed another body and considered the new 80D but don't like the sub-menus Canon added. The 70D is one of the best cameras Canon has ever made. Great with the 15-85mm lens.

Bad Motherboard

I spent $1500 on this camera about 3 years ago. Last time I used it was about 4 months ago. I had kept it stored in my camera bag in a safe dry area all this time. Nothing touched it since the last time I used it. It wasn’t exposed to dust or humidity. Today it won’t turn on. Everything online says it’s probably the motherboard which will probably cost $400+. I’m extremely disappointed that I spent so much money on what I though would be a lifelong reliable camera. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because I really did enjoy the photos it captured when it actually worked.

This is a great camera at a great price. Canon colors along with dual pixel AF. Can go from point and shoot to full fledged professional. Video is awesome and you get access to STM lenses at a great price point.

Camera ans SD card is great. The rest is really not needed.

First off, the 70D is a huge upgrade from my 50D and I am loving every minute of using it. The memory card is great also. Super fast. The red is just ok. Nothing great, almost just visual fillers that I will give away to someone.

Both Product AND Vendor Exceeded Expectations!

Having recently graduated to semi-retired status from the feature film and original television production world; I decided to treat myself to a DSLR upgrade from a Canon EOS XSi (now my wife's) to a well-received and reviewed Canon EOS 70D. The 70D is everything and more than I thought it would be, and admittedly, has pleasantly exceeded my expectations! I look forward to enjoying it on many a new adventure... And YES - I would highly recommend the Canon 70D to anyone looking for a well-appointed DSLR, and without breaking the bank. It should also be noted that doing business with Adorama has been an absolute joy! Throughout the ordering process and beyond, the staff at Adorama has presented the finest example of customer service, and an absolute breath of fresh air. Something so absent with many vendors. Kudos to your sales and support staff! Enjoyed having the opportunity of conveying these sentiments in person while at NAB recently. Keep up the good work in elevating the buying and after-the-sale experience!

I love my EOS 70D (most of the time

I have had the EOS 70D camera for 3 years and it takes great pictures when the auto-focus works. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the focus is off sometimes. Most days almost every picture is sharp, some amaze me they are so good but once in a great while about half are not. I would not recommend this camera to a pro or someone who needs consistency.

Powerful Camera for Intermediate User

I'm one of those dinosaur film holdovers, so I'm fairly new to the world of DSLRs. I'm pleased with the lightning fast autofocus, the speed with which I can adjust exposure settings, and the overall quality of the camera build. There's a lot of value in this kit, but the camera bag is pretty bare bones. It doesn't have enough room to store all or even most of the goodies that come in the package. I would only dock a half star for that if I could.

Great camera

Camera functions well. Low light performance is better than I expected. Didn't receive all of the items included in the bundle so I can't comment on all of them. The tripod is junk, I do like the bag. It's a little small to hold everything I ordered but it seems well built.

Great Camera Very Happy

I bought this camera direct from Cannon. It was a refurbished model, really it was brand new from the factory. I would highly recommend this camera, super easy to use. There are lots of video's on YouTube to help you navigate thru the features of the camera. Also I found a lot of information on Canon's website. A+++

Amazing camera

By Binlv

As a first time buyer of an SLR camera I did considerable research prior to buying the EOS 70D. A local retailer recommended buying a starter model and upgrading later. I decided just to buy a more advanced one and just learn as I go. The pictures are excellent even using the auto mode! As with any new equipment there is a learning curve but the effort is worth it when you see the great results this camera has to offer. Don't be intimidated to jump into a more advanced camera, just learn as y...

Great camera to use to feed your passion

By SDavis

Getting into photography was the best decision I have made. I am happy that I get to start with the 70D to learn the ins and outs of what it takes to take good shots. 70D so far has made it easier for me to learn the basics while switching on and off to manual and auto to really understand the shots you can get. Still have lots to learn just wish Canon had classes here in DC.

Changing the way users capture still images and video with a DSLR camera, Canon EOS 70D - a trailblazing powerhouse featuring a revolutionary autofocus technology that unlocks the potential of Live View: Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This game-changing technology allows the EOS 70D to capture video in Live View with smooth and precise autofocus similar to that of a camcorder, complete with the superb image quality that is a hallmark of EOS cameras. Additionally, Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides fast and accurate autofocus during Live View still image capture, enabling you to fully benefit from the freedom of angle allowed by the Vari-angle Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II.

Compositional options are now nearly limitless with the two real-world choices of Live View and viewfinder shooting. To further empower the photographer, Canon engineers spent months ensuring that the cutting-edge Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the EOS 70D is compatible with over 103 Canon EF lenses, greatly expanding creative possibilities. Built-in wireless technology and the EOS Remote app further enhance shooting versatility, as well as enable easy sharing. Brilliant image quality is provided by the EOS 70D's 20.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, a first for an EOS camera with an APS-C sized sensor.

A powerful DIGIC 5+ Image Processor supports continuous shooting up to 7.0 frames per second, as well as an extended ISO range of 100-12800 (H: 25600) that allows shooting in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Stunning photos can be accomplished using the remarkable 19-point all cross-type AF system with a high precision dual cross f/2.8 center point, and advanced display options available on the Intelligent Viewfinder supply exceptional control. In-camera imaging features like HDR, HDR Backlight Control, Multiple Exposure, Handheld Night Scene, and Creative Filters available in real time help turn even simple images into spectacular photos. The Next Generation in Live View AF

Dual Pixel CMOS AF
The Canon EOS 70D features Canon's all-new Dual Pixel CMOS AF, a revolutionary leap forward in speed and accuracy that unlocks the potential of Live View shooting. This game-changing technology will forever change what is possible with a DSLR camera

Shoot Video Like a Camcorder
The benefits of the groundbreaking Dual Pixel CMOS AF are clearly evident in video shooting, where bringing scenes and subjects into focus is a critical element of the final composition. On the EOS 70D, Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps ensure focus is achieved naturally and precisely, even when switching between subjects. And, combined with the predictive power of Movie Servo AF, subjects in motion are smoothly and consistently tracked - once the EOS 70D locks focus, it doesn't let go. Plus, with the shallow depth-of-field afforded by EOS optics, your video gains a cinematic ambience.

The Genius of Pixel Based AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a cutting-edge Canon technology, made possible by a sophisticated redesigning of the CMOS sensor. Traditionally, image sensors have one photodiode per pixel, but the CMOS sensor on the EOS 70D has two photodiodes per pixel, enabling each pixel on the sensor to both perform phase-difference detection autofocus and capture light - a first for EOS cameras. With phase-difference detection AF, autofocus is achieved quickly and easily on the camera. This unique AF system enables autofocus on 80% of the image plane, vertically and horizontally, and helps ensure virtually no loss in image quality.

Sophisticated Wireless System
The simplicity and convenience of wireless technology, built-in The new EOS 70D incorporates cutting edge wireless technology right into its compact design. The camera's exposure settings, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, focus, and shutter can be operated wirelessly using an iOS or Android smartphone with the free Canon EOS Remote app. Using a smartphone with the EOS Remote app installed, you can shoot remotely from a distance, even in Live View mode, for those difficult-to-capture shots; you can also review images on the EOS 70D without having to take it out of the bag, and easily transfer and save images directly from the camera to a smartphone.

Full DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility means easy sharing between the EOS 70D and other DLNA products, like HDTVs, smartphones and more. Still images can even be transferred between two wireless-enabled Canon cameras over a Local Area Network (LAN). Images and video can be uploaded instantly to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY# for easy sharing on social networking sites, and photos can even be printed on a wireless PictBridge certified printer without the need for a PC. Remarkably, the EOS 70D has all of these wireless features without the need for any additional accessories; they're built right in!
